    Default Obnoxious DJs?

What is the most offensive, distasteful thing a DJ has ever said over the mic while you were on stage? How did you react, if at all, and did you feel like it was your right to say anything to him about it?

I have never ever had a dj do anything but try to sell me while im on stage...i think that the club would fire a dj if he did something inappropriate...but if a dj ever did say something offensive i would tell a manager

At a club I used to work at, the D.J.'s were a total joke. Pathetic really. One had an obnoxious way of "farting" into the mic when a dancer would bend over. Classy, eh?

the worst things I have had a DJ do while I'm on stage is take advantage; like play extra long songs so he can do "whatever" or run me twice or more in one rotation. It would cut into my hustle time and cap off my earnings each time- ya know brake the flow of things
I guess I'm pretty good on stage and I have fun so whenever the room needed a boost I'd end up there and they'd run a special that I'd miss out on too. that kind of thing is fine once and awhile but i ended up feeling like taken adantage of lots of times too.

I had a DJ that was mad at me once play "She's a Maneater" and announce me as the "Goddess of Destruction" (an incorrect reference to my stage name) when I was wearing a cute little girly type outfit. Another DJ insisted on promoting lap dances as "guys - get your thaaang rubbed."

Where I work, most of the DJ's are awesome and kiss our asses because we have to give them a 10% min. of our total earnings the rest of the night. (So it goes without saying that they want us to love them so we give them more than the min.)
There's this one DJ there that has a problem with me and I dont know why. He is always such a jerk to me about everything and does his best to make me feel like I'm some dumb broad. I've asked the other girls about this, and none of the other girls have seemed to have a problem with him. Last week, he even tried making and idiot of me when announcing me up on stage, and again when it was time to announce me when I got off the stage. I was so pissed about it, I acctually stiffed him a couple of bucks on his tip out. I know this wasnt right, and I should have talked to the manager, but he seems to give me a lot of attitude too. (Which, again, the other girls don't seem to have a problem with him.) He did catch me, and the monetary amount was only little, and just so not to start an even bigger problem, I just acted like I had made a mistake in counting. Which of course he did his best to make me feel stupid about. I hope he was able to pick up on my subtle hint.

You should talk to the DJ about it, Zoe83. Stand up for yourself. Otherwise he will keep doing the same thing. But do it in a frank way. Dont get into an arguement over it

My bigest problem with dancers when I was a dj was them throwing fits about wanting songs then acting like total bitches about it the whole night.

My number 1 job was to make the girls money...they made money, I made money. If they stiffed me...well thats a whole nother story.

Some dancers allways acted like they were the only ones working that night but the fact is I had 30 other personalitys to deal with.

My biggest peave was when I'd throw them some cool music and they's just wonder between poles for 6 minutes and wonder why they didnt make any money.

Other than that I've allways been VERY profesional "over the mic" behind closed doors is another story

I have had some doozies for dj's in my travels and like the one who made the unappropriate noise over the mike when a gal bent over is familiar.
I heard dj's refer to a womans pussy as a mattress muffin, another to encourage tipping I have heard cash for gash fellas! They have said fuck and the other 6 words you cant say on tv according to George Carlin backk in the day.

Small town gigs seem to breed this offensive brand of cretin...

ANd we gotta lotta small towns up here in the great white north in which one plys her craft.

At the club I'm at now, a lot of girls just don't like stage and will pretend not to hear when the DJ puts them up. They are incredibly unprofessional, but of course they also make enough money that no one cares, but I still can't imagine why they don't get fined for some of this crap. I was in the DJ booth last night when he called one girl to stage three times, and I was so impressed by how he handled it. First he'll be like, "oh, we're missing Mercedes on stage, does anybody see Mercedes? ...oh, there she is, Mercedes, your on stage dear... MERCEDES, STAGE PLEASE.. I know you saw me that time, you looked right at me... okay, your halfway there, keep going (as she plops down on a guys lap to tell him what an asshole the DJ is) sir would you mind just steering her towards the stage there.. thank you... uh-oh, don't stop, your almost there... gentlemen, it wasn't easy but now we've got the beautiful Mercedes warming up the stage for you."

LOL! That's great! I don't know why some gals have to be a pain in the ass for a good DJ. Such men are priceless.

We have two night shift DJs at my club. One is an absolute treasure and as such I've rarely tipped him just the 10% minimum. The other is a total fucktard. Y'all heard about how I don't take off my top (breast cancer). This guy told me that I wouldn't be a "real stripper" until I took my top off and, when I requested a song, told me I would have to flash him to get it.

There was another DJ who subsituted one night at my old club. He grabbed my ass. I whipped around and got right into his face, instructing him that if he had been a customer he would have just been slapped. Then I told him that my ass is personal property and NOT a job perk and if he ever dares molest me again I would speak with the management. I saw him in another club three months later and he remembered me from just that one incident. He made a point of keep his hands to himself.

I have to jump in and say something, not that i'm defending all dj's cos every club is different, i can only speak for myself.

I can be a real bastard to work for, and the girls know it. This is because i'm under constant pressure from management to make sure that everything runs smoothly. So yes i clash with the girls. I have seen the many personalities that can come out of one girl in just one nite, and i have had to put up with it. So ladies please remember sometimes we don't like to be treated like a piece of crap just cos we are a dj or your punching bag.

I'm not going to give examples or anything like that, but just say that i do my best to deal with every girl in the right way. If i have stuffed up, i'm willing to admit it and fix the problem.

I do know that if i'm in a bad mood it can reflect on how the nite goes for the girls. But if i'm in one of my warped moods like i was on Sat nite then everyone has a laugh, even if it's at my expense.

And yes i got tipped extra that nite. I've had to deal with not being tipped cos either i stuffed up or the girl was in a bad mood. I usually let it go, if it is worth it i'll get the money the next time. If i stuffed up then i didn't deserve the tip in the first place.

DJ Lewi, WE are the ones paying YOU. Not working for you, PAYING you to provide a service. Maybe if you understood that, you would get along better with the entertainers you work for.

Granted, BUT...you gotta understand that at a top tier (as in I had 30 girls on a sunday afternoon), its more than just about what the dancers wanna hear. ESPECIALY if the owner is sitting at the bar and you got a crowd going on. Its about the crowd and keeping THEM. No crowd=no money for you. To be a good dj, its finding a happy medium that keeps all partys happy, and that can be a real pain in the butt when SOME dancers just "dont get it".

im sure you are a wonderful dj. however the guys come to see the GIRLS so what the dj says or plays dosent decide if he stays or not. the quality of the women do.

Yes...they do indeed come to see the girls. But what is played will help keep them there, trust me on this one. And what a dj playes WILL effect your money in so many ways. I had a girl once, bent she wasn't making any money all night. I asked her to trust me for one set and she walked off with 150 in tips, and had a line forming for couch dances. But like I said and was mentioned in another thread, apperently Philly is a hot-spot for good djs and the girls put there faith in us because they know for the most part we know our jobs. ANd trust me, a good dj will know how to keep a crowd and keep you making money.

Wow, that really sparked a debate, didn't it? The reason it was on my mind was this...Last week one of our djs said something over the mic that I thought was crude and just over the line offensive. I won't go into details as to how the comment came up, but he made a reference to anal sex and said, "every guy likes a little mud on his turtle now and then." Now, how sexy does that make you feel? I casually, in a joking manner, made it known that I felt it was a gross thing to say and he took offense and said I should consider where I work and what I do for a living, then told me that my opinion didn't matter to him at all. So, this is my horror story. He didn't play me crap all night, and I even thanked him later for playing a song he knows I love, Bjork, but he still was very cold to me. I felt like snapping on him and docking his tip, but I didn't. If a customer said something that sick to me, I would have walked away, why should I have to hear it over the mic from the guy who is supposed to be making me sound alluring? Ok, thanks for listening to me vent my anger.

Before I had started dj'ing I spent more than my share of time in the clubs (6 yrs. military will do that. lol). The one thing that I've noticed and refuse to do when i'm working is announce the girls like they are a piece of meat. Maybe it appeals to some guys, but I find it offensive. I actually lost a gig at a club because I wouldn't do dirty announcements. I feel that with some creative wording you can get the same effect without being in the gutter.

phillydj, I agree and I never demand a certain song from a DJ - I usually let him know the stuff that I like (I can dance to a variety of music) and tell him that I trust him to play the right stuff at the right time for the crowd.

That means that we are working together. You are helping me look good and market myself. That doesn't make you my boss, and DJ's with that boss or wanna-be-pimp attitude drive me crazy.

Firstly just so you know i don't get paid just by tips, i get paid by the club as well, but in saying that i'm there to do a job, but not be the centre of attention. That's for you girls.

I work very hard at making sure the girls are looked after, by way of lighting, voice overs, music and generally trying to help them make extra money.

The club i work in is different to most of the American clubs as we have at least 10-12 show girls doing 12-14 mins shows, with a minimum of 3 shows for each girl. Plus an International Feature works at the club for a month at a time. My job is to help their performance not hinder it. Yes like phillydj said, but i won't be treated like a piece of crap either. And i certainly won't bend over and kiss the dancers feet just because she tells me to.

If that sparks this debate further into overtime then so be it.
