    Default Pole Tricks and Dancers

    Hello Everyone,
well yesterday was may 2cd day dancing and it was really slow for like an hour so one of the girls offered to show me some pole tricks, OH my God for all of you out there that can do these you have my highest respect i always watched them being done and said to myself wow that is easy until last night when i tried it is so hard! I do not know if i will ever be able to do those hopefully one day, anyways i thanked her for her time and one guy had thrown ten dollars up there so we split it, i went into the dressing room she then came in later and the girls asked her what was wrong and she started to say oh i was trying to show that stupid bitch to do pole tricks when she looked over and saw me sitting there and got this look on her face like oh shit and then looked at me and said oh don't mind me i am just mean. I do not know if it was the money thing she was the one who said we would split it, i even tried to give the 5 dollars back for trying to show me granted i know i was not good and could not do these things but i tried my best i am a very nice person and it really hurt me i am not used to being called a bitch so anyways i need every ones view on this did i do something wrong or is this something i have to get used to in this business and how should i act when i go back. Thanks for letting me vent and any advise

Wow! Tack about lack of fucking tact! Spewing her mouth off, realizing you're there, then trying to defend it with "I'm mean"??!

And no, it's not something you should have to get used to in this business, but shit will happen.

As far as you being concerned if you did anything wrong, hell no. That chick just lacks class. She's got issues if she gets crotchity teaching you some pole tricks. Just go about your way at work and ignore her. There's no point in you wasting your breath or time on her.

And I have to say, sadly you can't trust a lot of girls in this business. It's difficult to make true friends. You're there for the guys. Go and make your money. Hopefully this doesn't discourage you in the dancing bizz.

Some girls in the clubs have to show just how hard they are, just like guys trying to show off that they are more macho than their friends. I've found that these girls tend to have had difficult lives and low self-image, but its not excuse.

I learned pole tricks by just trying them out myself on the side stages when the club was not too packed. Also, if you get really pumped and energetic about pole work, you will find that the adrenline will help you get up that pole faster and smoother. But you will mess up several times. Its really no big deal, just laugh at yourself. I've majorly bruised my girl parts against the metal before..ouch..it heals, and may even draw you some sympathy dances, hehehe!

Practice practice practice! One day they will just come to you. If you can make it look easy that means you are doing the tricks well.

I don't think it was you, she's just a mean girl, like she said. I think Katrine's right. Some girls have to have the hard image. There was a girl like that at my old club. One day I was back stage stretching and she came back there. I left for a second and came back. She was making fun of me because I was stretching. I mean, I know stretching is an incredibly stupid thing to do and only the biggest dork does that. Anyway, she was always hot and cold. Sometimes she was super sweet and sometimes she was incredibly rude. I chose to ignore her. I don't associate with girls who try hard to promote their "hard" image at the expense of others. I wouldn't worry about her.

Sounds like that mean girl is in burnout stage :-/
I betcha she had her eye on a customer and he chose a different dancer while she was showing Mia the pole tricks. Not an excuse its just what went through my head reading Mia's post.

As for pole tricks there is that video - its pretty good. Also maybe go in during set up before the club is open and practice. A home pole is the best but its an $300 plus investment, which may or may not be smart depending on the situation.

I'd say don't worry about pole tricks at this point. And as far as the mean chick- its her issue and not your fault Mia. Go back in there smile say hi and move on with things.

For one thing, don't go back to that girl for more pole dance lessons. I don't know why people try to pose at being friendly when they harbor malicious thoughts against you. At least you know her true temperment. Try to hook up with someone more genuine.
Not everyone can master pole tricks. Don't take offense if you fall short of your goals. Even attempting tricks on the pole yields benefits to your upper body strenght, abdominals, and might I add, they tend not to gain weight if they practice conscientiously. But you have the primary requisit. You said "I want to do it."
Hopefully you won't be disappointed where that takes you.

I don't get girls like that. The fact that she offered and then cussed you? Screw her, man. Tell me, did you actually say anything back to her? Just curious. I would have, but when you're new I guess, sometimes you just want to lay low until you get a hang of the way things work.

As for pole tricks, I've been dancing on-off for 2 years (more off than on) so I haven't learned as much as I could have. But if you just practice (groan! boring word!) it will pay off. I learned some moves working 2days every odd week quicker than girls who worked at the club 5 days a every week. You have to have a winning attitude too!

Good luck with that. If you keep at it, smile too, you'll be a big hit on the stage!

I watched videos with gals doing pole tricks, then put the DVD on slow and drew them! If you're not into the sketching thing you can still observe closely. Then i went to every school yard/playground that had poles, different sized poles..so as to ensure practice on various widths. I want a pole in my home later on, but until then outdoor poles worked for me!

Actually it IS something you have to used to in this business. There will always be bitchy mean girls like that (low self-esteem) and if you continue dancing, you will be called every nasty name imaginable at some point. Easiest way to deal with it is realize the girls who behave that way are immature, low-class and have very low self-esteem, and let it roll off because it means NOTHING in your life. Just ignore them, smile and keep making money.

Pole tricks are funny. I used to be able to scale the pole and hang there for a whole song upside down, but then the pole was replaced with a pole that is much thicker. That pole and I don't get along very well, so now I just twirl around it. You have to build up your arms enough to get yourself up there, then be able to hold on with your legs and have your hands free. You can generally use your thighs to grasp with or you can wrap one leg around it and hold on with the tip of your shoe, but only if you have on closed toe shoes. The patent leather sticks to the metal really well. Don't try going up the pole in stockings, though. You slip right back down faster than hell! I only made that mistake once.

Oh, and by the way, that girl was very out of line, but there are always a few girls that refer to all new dancers in a negative way until they get to know them. That does not make it right, but it happens. Learn to shake it off and forget about it. You can't take it personally, because she doesn't know you as a person. Good luck, babe!

I actually learned pole tricks and a pole trick that I have never seen anyone else use from an extremely petite dancer at Crazy Horse II in Las Vegas. I was there with a date and I watched this tiny dancer slide down the very tall pole, up-side-down while holding on with only one leg!

When I went back to work, it took me a few days to perfect that move and now, at least anywhere I have worked, it is my trademark.

Now for the bitch. I have had women treat me in a negative way, whenever I have been new, since moving to LA,Ca. I have been in this business for 12 years, off and on, and I still get shit when I start at a new club! I am petite and have a little bit of a youthful look. It's not so much that I look young, more like wholesome, not the porn-star look. I think these bitches think I am naive, so they pick on me.

I usually prove myself in my stage acts. I never say a word in defense, I just use my professional dance moves and smile. I tend to have a sarcastic sense of humor as well. This usually shuts them up or they just sit there scratching their heads because they just don't get my humor.

Don't sweat it. Just wear a great costume, swing around that pole like you own it and SMILE!!

    [cheers]

I, too, have been at it for about 4.5 years. Pole work is my forte. I work on it every day, and I'm always developing a new trick in my head. I've found that it's best if I do it there a thousand times, knowing where every part of my body is supposed to be at every moment before I ever attempt it on the pole makes it much easier to try it physically. That works because I know my body and its limitations. My advise to Mia and anyone else who is new is actually to wait. Give yourself a month or so to become comfortable on the stage, to break in the shoes and to develop some floor work. Solid dancing, when you first start, does a number on your body. As well as bruises and a sore lower back, you'll find that you've become more limber and develop some muscle. Once you've become accustomed to the stage work, hit the pole. Work on climbing up and staying there. The lift, in most of the moves, is the most important. After that, start seeing where things can go. At that point, it's all about careful experimentation. I've cracked ribs and torn muscles up on the pole even when I knew what I was doing. These were due to moments of overconfidence. Although you obviously need to be careful (nobody wants to fall on her head), have fun!!! I firmly believe that's what the pole is all about. It's also the greatest workout you'll ever have As for the bitch...she had no reason to behave the way she did after offering to teach you. Like the previous posts said, you're there to make money, not friend.

Wow....what a bitch. You might want to give her the benifit of the doubt though? Maybe she's just having a bad day. On the other hand, she could just be a terrible person at heart. Good luck with the pole
