Default Diversity... what are YOUR roots?

I don't know about other states, but here, in NYC, in every club you find a dancer from anywhere in the world.

I'm just curiuos what nationality/ethnicity are you or your parents/grandparents?

Dutch and Irish here - complete with auburn red hair under the peroxide, a terrible temper when pushed beyond a certain point, and an uncanny capacity for alcohol consumption.

My father is from Mexico City. Mother was American-born, but Czech in blood. My father's side had a little bit of French, hence my french last name.

Pasty as they come . . . Scots, German, English. Can't get anything but freckles in the sun. The Scottish side of the family has a very amusing motto on the coat of arms: "Si je puis" - "If I can." Not very inspiring, eh?

    It's "surname," not "sir name".

Spanish, Irish the whole celtic thing when they invaded and left the black haired, swarthy skinned blue eyed descents, well thats what my first female ancestor in america looked like. Since then, its mingled with Buerre and African, Irish and English and extensively with Cree and Chickasaw. Everyone from different sides of the family looks different ways b/c each of my four grandparents was a different ethnicity. Dad's got pale skin and grey eyes and mom's got the indian look with heavy dark long hair and dark eyes. It comes from her dad, which is why her maiden name is a color, but she's lucky it was shortened from a color and a bird to just a color.

100% English, going back literally hundreds of years to Civil War fighters (it's an interesting family tree, although I'm ashamed to say they were Confederates), before that famous Revolutionary fighters, and even further back to British royalty, though my maiden sir name is traditional Irish...haven't figured that one out yet (but must also explain my tolerance for large amounts of alcohol).

I no longer speak to my grandparents who still live and will die by the South because they are bigots so I guess I'll never know why my sir name is Irish.

The English ruled the Irish for hundreds of years, until, after years of bloody fighting (1915 Easter Uprising, Michael Collins etc etc) they were granted soverignty in 1922.

A lot of Irish ended up in the south in colonial times, because they were pretty much only skilled as laborers. After the Revolutionary War and the rise of slavery as the backbone of the southern economy, the Irish gravitated to the North, where their manual labor skills got them work as virtual wage-slaves in factories.

Its possible you are decended from one of the pre-Rev War Irish who came to the South. If your ancestors were of Irish decent and fought for the South in the Civil War, its a good chance the family had been there for long time.

There will be a test later, Francesca. Study hard.

Scottish here, grandparents from the Isle of Sky - Scotland.
Went back to visit the 'motherland" back a few years and as I drove on the left side of the one lane road common in scotland I bellowed out to a gentleman mowing his front lawn with an old push mower and asked him if he knew if I was going in the right direction for such and such an address - he hollered back "ACH YOU MUST MEAN THE ******* LAND!!!"
Which blew my mind, our land hand been in our families name for hundreds of years...
I too can trace family history - for an astounding amount of generations.

I laughed at Melonies post for the amazing capacity for alcohol - I too have a liver the size of Texas....
And along with the scots being so frugal?
    I AM the Bargain Jedi....LOL!!!

    Cheers!

I'm from Alaska. My dad is Jewish, my mom is english/scottish/chickasaw/stuff. Somehow I wound up with a halfway exotic look.

Get ready for this, I'm half Mexican and half Japanese. Not a touch of anything else. I've got the most amazing gorgeous Mexican mother ever, who is fluent in Spanish (of couse), English, French, and Japanese. Then I have my dad who is 4'9 and has very almond shaped eyes. They look a little strange together but they're so cute, sorta the Odd Couple. Though me and my brother look nothing alike. He came out blond haired and blue almond shaped eyes, though his hair is darker now. I have black curly hair and very dark eyes. He's 6'4 and I'm 5'2. Sometimes I think he's adopted Most people can't guess what I am, and most people think it's exotic so I'm happy.

Italian Although, I have had a ton of people ask me if I am from South America. My husband is Latino, therefore I have a Spanish last name, so with that and my looks, people always assume I speak Spanish.

Little do they know, I only know how to cuss in Spanish!

Swedish and Cherokee on dad's side, French and some Native American tribe from South Dakota on mom's. I need to find out that name when I see the family at Thanksgiving. Black hair, blue eyes and 5'10!
