If these people really cared about their causes they wouldn't refuse donations from dancers and stripclubs.
People like that make me sick! They don't care about the charity, they care only about their public reputations.
Assholes.

What can you say ? Even in one of the most 'liberal' cities in the USA, the general public and those organizations that depend on the good will of the general public avoid any associations whatsoever with strip clubs - even if that association is merely accepting a donation. This is total proof that exotic dancing is now firmly entrenched as being part of the "sex business", which fine upstanding citizens will avoid even if it costs them money to do so.
You can't really blame the charities for this reaction. The charities are afraid, and very probably correct, that for every dollar in publicly announced contributions they accept from an "unsavory" donor, that they'll lose $100 in donations from the general public as a consequence. These charities have also turned down donations in the past from drug dealers, organized crime etc. Isn't it "reassuring" to know that we're now firmly considered to be in the same group!

Not only have I seen it, I've been a part of such a donation.
A local women's shelter near a club I used to work at was asking for donations for the holidays. The owner of our club decided to do a good deed and start a donation. Once a day for an entire month each girl donated the price of one lap dance ($20) to a donation fund.
We sent the money, and they returned it!
Eventually the money was donated to another charity, one that wasn't so local. Such a shame though, that our business' money is considered too dirty to help out others.
That is really truly sad. I actually felt quite disheartened to read that. I just can't believe that they can even 'ban' you from donating! That is so ludicrous!
What they are doing in my eyes is keeping this industry as a stereotype and that we cannot be associated with contributing to anything good. In regards to 'reputations to keep', that is just fancy bollocks. The fact that those clubs made a joint effort to contribute speaks volumes for us and shows that the people in this industry are full of a bunch of great, selfless characters. The money wasn't earned in any illegal activity, it didn't hurt anyone and the people who contributed worked their asses off to get it for the charities.
However, and sadly, it says a lot for them and their lack of observation to notice this. They are letting people and causes do without because they are just too narrow-minded. I bet if these people who refuse were those directly affected by whatever cause they represent, they would take the money without hesitation.
If they refuse money, they should have to come up with a better excuse than the one they have given now. I think what they are doing is selfish and really silly.

This is very sad.....
I have been donating to MANY animal rescue organizations and NEVER once has anyone asked how the funds were obtained. These orgs truly needed the funds to support these unwanted and abused animals.
Obviously they didn't need the donations or they wouldn't care where they came from....And hello this is the 21st Century ...What is wrong with these people?
[grr] [flaming]
this is very sad cause i donate to charities all the time ...i wonder if they would start rejecting it knowing im a dancer

I found the following quote from the article funny since The Salvation Army is a Christian organisation (isn't Christianity against this type of work?) whereas The Red Cross is regarded a charity with no religious ties....
:o
"Last week, three Southern California exotic-dance clubs were told that the Red Cross wouldn't accept their $5,484 pledge for victims of last month's wildfires. The Salvation Army took it instead."

Yes it's truely sad that none of those organzation wouldnt accept donation for strip clubs. I've heard similar stories like this in the past.
However I dont donate because the club couldn't even donate anything for a good cause. I remember a while back the club asked us to donate some canned food or whatever. I dont know if any dancers actually did but it wasn't a sucess because we damn well know they ain't gonna accep it from the club.
I know many business would donate money every year for tax purposes. And clubs would have to find a way to donate money to some organization and it's hard too.

If the charity is truly worthy just donate anonymously. The reason for the donation shouldn't be the publicity anyway.

in cocoa beach fla( a really small town) we did a toy drive every year. customers would bring in a new unrapped toy and put it under our tree. i believe it went to toys for tots charity. we also at the holiday season did "charity dances" where we donated our dance price to a bucket that was passed around. never was any of our money or toys rejected. understand this is a beach town where people are much more laid back and not quite so uptight.
