    Default poor health from club.

I work in a club that has not been well-maintained. There is little ventilation, the AC vents are certainly crawling with mold, and 75% of the customers/employees smoke. I am getting sinus infections every month. What the hell do I do. My money or my health.??

I worked in a club like that. I ended up going to a nicer club. Maybe you can do the same?

If you are sick all the time how much money do you think you will be losing out on? I'd switch clubs.

i dont think you should ever chose between money and your health ...your health should be put first before anything or anyone else ....can't you try to find another club...i think that would be the best thing to do

More likely than not you are in an area that has more than one club. Although all the clubs in the area might not be worth working at, you should be able to find one other club where you can earn as much or more that is better kept than your current club. Good luck. Also, sinus infections may or may not be caused just by the club. They may have other primary cause and be exacerbated by the condition of the club, in which case, you need to identify primary triggers and reduce/remove them as well.

The classic name for the building you work in is "sick building." If someone gets sick, and reports the conditions...not good for the club. They can (should) be shut down until all the molds and proper ventilation is restored. Your health is not worth this. Some people develope a condition from sick buildings that give them a permanent case of asthma.

And it could be something as silly as what you cleaned your car with. Say you drive an hour to work. And cleaned the car with something you are allergic to, solvent etc. You are possibly chronically reinfecting yourself and do not realize it. Testing is the only way to tell or getting a lead. This time of year it could be switching from AC to heat and changes in humidity triggering sinuses. If bad enough see an allergist. Sick buildings tend to produce a number of suffers not one in isolation.

You probably have allergic fungal sinusistis. (Like I do)

It means you are so allergic to fungas (mold) that your sinus cavities swell shut
and then you can get bacterial infection because there is no drainage.

There is only one place and one treatment on the planet earth for this
disease and it is at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. (They also have branches in
Scottsdale Arizona, and Jacksonville Florida) Believe me I've researched it.

The problem is not so much that its a dread disease (estimates it affects 25 to 40 million Americans) but that most sinus doctors wonk't sign on that it is a disease or the simple cure.

Massive anitbiotics don't work. (Fungas are immune to them)

I spray my nose twice a week with a solurtion of Amphotericin B which is a topical
(surface) nose spray. Have only had one sinus infection in 1 1/2 years instead of one per
    month.
You need an appointment or referal to the sinus department at the Mayo clinic
or its branches. The amphtericin B(which is an anti fungal agent)
has to be changed in form by somebody who knows what they are doing and put
in special distilled water solution and cooled down. And you need a prescription.

The only place on this planet to get the prescription is the Mayo clinic sinus department.

A cheaper trail to follow is to get the allergy tests probably both skin and blood tests.

If they both turn out that you are highly allergic to fungas you are about 80% of the
way there to the diagnoses. Sinus surgury to straighten out your sinus passages also helps
    but is a miserable experience.

At any rate the nose spray works for me. You have to spray every day for about
three months and then can go to once or twice a week.

There are three infectious agents that we know of.
Bacteria which we spend alot of money fighting, virus which there are some anti viral agents
around with more on the way. and mold/fungas. As a society we know and spend very
little by comparison fighting mold and fungas.

That club sounds like one I used to work in. I must say, my health personally wasn't affected because I only worked few nights a week but definitely some other dancers' were. It went like this:

    No ventilation
    Smoking customers
    No central heating
The mankiest floors/carpets ever (I had a whinge about this in an earlier post and how girls sometimes caught rashes from dancing on it!)
Vile toilets (we thought ours were bad; even the guys would complain about their toilets!) etc, etc

BUT....it was by far the best earning and cleanest (Ok, I mean the lapdances here now - no extras EVER went on in that club!) dancing club in the city (definitely at the time, dunno nowadays).

If I was affected healthwise, I would have found it hard to switch clubs but thankfully I wasn't. The money was just so darn good so I was lucky. But in your case, if your health is that bad, it will also affect you at work.

I think it wouldn't be worth it staying, especially if there are other clubs around in the area.

Why don't you report them to the Health department or building inspector. If that is without maintenance who knows what else may be wrong - fire escapes, fire suppression? Try to do it anonymously. If they catch on ,you may very well be labeled a whistleblower.
