    Default My Tounge Ring

A little over a week ago, I went and got a tounge ring. I was always curious about them and thought they looked pretty cool. So... despite opposition from my boyfriend and my family, I got one. Well now, I'm so TIRED of it! It's annoying to have this thing in my mouth! Half of me wonders if I feel this way because it's new to me or it's not completely absolutely healed. Everyone who has one seems to think they're soooo great. I thought it was great too... for about 4 days. I don't want to take it out and then regret it though. Has anyone else been through this? How do any of you feel about your tounge rings???

I had my tongue pierced 3yrs ago when i was 17 and i took it out 6months ago. I am also wondering whether i should put it back in but my mom says i sound better when i speak without it and i think its way too common now.

as for it being annoying you will get used to it in a few weeks... it becomes apart of you in fact when i took it out it i felt weird. Also when i first had it done i was given an extra long bar and then had it replaced a week later with a shorter bar and small ball when the swelling went down.

I say try it out for a while and if you don't like it take it out.... you can always put it back in again. I would take mine out for weeks, even months and then wear it again the hole never closed ( however im sure it has now, 6 months is a long time)

Bella! It's only been a week!

The first week always sucks ass coz the tongue becomes swollen and you're so aware of it, it's annoying. But after that 7 day nightmare, you can get it changed to a cute li'l bar and honestly, you shouldn't even really notice it's there. That was exactly how I felt and I still have mine and love it! I think it's partly because my bar is so small, noone notices and then if I laugh out loud people go "Oooh! You got your tongue pierced? Cool!" I like the element of surprise!

Keep it for a little bit longer, see how it really feels. You can always have fun with it! If you're in a club with UV lights, put some UV jewellery in. For me, the key is always to keep the bar small. It never gets in the way and if you're around people who don't like piercings, they'll never know.

Word. I takes some getting used to, but I love mine. I've had it for four years. I still talk around the barbell when I take it out (habit, I suppose). People just think it's an accent unless they have a piercing themselves.

I see so many people with tongue pierces sticking it between their teeth and rolling it - how obnoxious....'oh please look at me, I have a tongue pierce!' And the teeth clicking...bleh. I have no opinion really on the whole thing, but the clickers and rollers do look and sound ridiculous. Others who don't develop those annoying habits, well whatever floats your boat! Bella I'd say give it a little more time to heal - it will become a part of you. I remember when I got my 2nd and 3rd earrings, bodypierces, not regular. For the first week or two they bothered me mainly because I wasn't used to them. They were like part of my body in like a month. I'm not much on jewelry, but I've had my earrings for like 6 years now and I know I'd feel really weird if I took them out. Hang in there. If you still don't like it after a month, take it out.

I agree that the whole clicking thing can be annoying but to be honest i think most ppl play with it out if habit not because they want attention. I'm sure i have been guilty of this with out being aware.

I say give it another week. After a while you will forget you even have it. Don't play with it. I had a habit of rolling it around and playing with mine and I swallowed 3 balls because of it! Finally I broke my habit and stopped rolling it around. When you do that the ball becomes loose. I swallowed 2 in my sleep and one when I was eating.

Also, I know Seraya said she could take hers in and out. Mine would close up in a matter of days. I had to re-pierce it myself before. It would go in the top and very bottom part, but the middle would close up and I would have to push the bar through. Very painful.

I also kept trying to make my gage larger. I think I got down to an 8 gage. They pierce you with a 14 or 16. My friend had a 00. It was huge! The bar was almost the same size as the balls. One day his fell through his tongue while he was eating pu**y (not mine, we were friends). Don't try to go larger. It's gross.

I finally took mine out when I had my BA because you can't have any jewelry in surgery. I just never put it back in. It started to feel gross having a foreign object in my mouth.

    Clean it well and often!

I've had mine pierced for almost 3yrs as well. I have a lil advice on this subject. Well first off, make sure that after about 2weeks, to go back in and get the jewelry refitted. You will need a !! NEW TONGUE RING!!The one you have in your mouth right now is for a thicker, more swollen tongue. If you fail to get a shorter tongue ring, then you could run the risk of chipping your teeth, which I know you dont want. I hope you haven't been eating any really solid foods. That as well as salty, or spicy foods can irritate you. I would recommend buying "Biotene". It helped wonders for me. It's a special mouthwash ( you can get it from Walgreens) for dry mouth. I hope that helps...

New problem. It's becoming not worth the trouble from my parents. Normally, I don't let them push me around ever.. but my dad doesn't let me park in the garage anymore and it's been raining and my brakes have been squeeking! I think I'll take a few pictures of myself with it and then take it out... it just wasn't as cool as I thought it would be...

Uh, I wouldn't put up with that crap Bella. Are you still living with your parents? Do they know you dance? Even if you do live with them, they have no right to say whether you can get a pierce or not - you are an adult. Furthermore, that is a VERY immature way for them to deal with the issue. They may not like it, but the most they should do is voice their opinion about it and let you decide. Not letting you park in the garage = not treating you as an adult, and acting like little kids trying to get their way! I'd have a calm chat with them - adult-style.

i had one for about a year. i replaced the original bar with a shorter one, as short as i could get. STILL one day i chomped down on it and cracked about 1/4 off of one of my molars. a dentist told me he sees the same thing every day...i got pissed & took it out...never again!

I can't completely agree with that, because there may be more than meets the eye here. And if you live in someone's house without paying your own way for mortgage/utilities/food, you either live by their rules or live elsewhere.

So I do agree with Bridgette on that point. If you don't like the conditions, live elsewhere. That's what I did. Personally, I never regretted it.

As to the tongue piercing, it's just me being an old fart, but I don't understand it. I tend to look at decisions in terms of cost/benefit. If the cost exceeds the benefit, don't do it.

In the case of a tongue piercing, the cost is whatever money it takes, the maintenance that it will take, the foreign object in the mouth feeling, the tissue reaction (tongue swelling), a vector for infection. And the benefit is ... is .... well, I guess I don't know what the benefit is, but it would have to be a pretty healthy one, just for me, to overcome all that "cost."

Just my opinion. Obviously. But I'm an old fart. Obviously.

Gosh, I keep going here. Okay, my neighbor just told me that u can get a really bad infection and they'll cut off your tounge! I was like sure, right, whatever. But he said it's like gangrine or something??? The reason my dad came up with that rule is because... well... that's how he deals with things. The "I'll take u out of my will" was already overused. The only thing I'm worried about now, if I give in, he may use this threat for EVERYTHING.
Ps: No way Bridg, they would KILL me if they knew I danced I'm just saving up to buy a condo instead of throwing away 2 grand a month on an apartment.

Bella your more likely to get an infection like gangrene from a belly button, lip piercing etc than a tongue piercing. The first few weeks is when you should be really careful because it's still healing but use a really good mouth wash and you be will fine trust me

I've had mines since I was 19 (that's about 3 years now since I'm 22) and I was the same way as Bella. I couldn't eat the foods I wanted to eat, and when I did, I had to chew from my left side. Was always scared of biting my tongue, sick of washing my tongue ring every time I ate or drank something... [grr]But now, I love it! I'm always sticking my tongue out like a little girl and the guys go crazy! :o :o And as far as sex, I'm the queen of what I do! (Damn, do I have to tell you what it is?! Use your imagination for goodness sake!) [v]
