Hi Ladies,

The Atlanta/Marietta Georgia area has the most expensive and difficult dancer's licensing arrangement that I know of. It is basically the local counties that requires the dancer's license - the license is expensive (like $325 per year) - and the license is only good if you continue to work at the same club (meaning that if you change clubs you must renew your license for another $325 before the old one was due to expire).
The only other area where dancer's licenses cost more than $100 is Toronto - and that license is good at any club in the city.
Most US cities besides Atlanta that require dancer's licenses ... Vegas, Dallas etc. ... only charge $25 or less. With these cities the cost of the license isn't an issue.
What becomes an issue when trying to obtain a dancer's license in any city is if you have any sort of outstanding warrants, any previous charges for drugs, theft, prostitution etc. on your record, or even if you have been charged with violating a dance club ordinance in another city. If you answer yes to any of the above, odds are you will not be granted a license and you won't be allowed to dance in that city. Also take note that many of these licensing authorities (city or county cops, city hall etc.) don't care whether or not you were found guilty either - they can deny you the licenses if you were simply charged with such violations even though you were found innocent on appeal, charges were dropped etc.
You need a business privledge license here in Philadelphia (but it may be the entire state too, don't know)...it's basically an independent contractor's license and all clubs require it, but some are kind of lax about it....like you can work for awhile THEN pay for it...and it's $250 and you only pay it once.
A dance license is required in Detroit as well. Before the ca$ino$ came to town the permit was a mere $45, annually. Now, they are about $365 plus running around downtown to the police station and courts. I was danceing outside the city limits, but just found a GREAT new club that is buying the permit for me and allowing me to pay the club back out of my earnings every week--works for me!
A license is required in Washington state- the fee varies depending on what city you dance in, and for every city it's a separate license, anywhere from 80-250. Some cities you have also have to get a state business license, UBI (tax) number and file quarterly earnings. AS much as this state gets frome us financially, PLUS the economic goldmine we are to the clothing industry, you'd think they would stop hasseling us up here!!!
