Some restuarants won't let you serve liquer until your 21.
Maybe it would be better if 18 year olds right out of high school experience life a little bit before entering strip clubs. I think that at 18 you are highly impershionable and can easily go down the wrong path. At 21 I was so much more mature and different than 18. I know that there are alot of mature 18 year olds but the way the business is these days what is 2 years. I also think that escort agencies should also have only girls 21 and over too.

fortunately or unfortunately, the only real enforcement tool available against clubowners are threats to suspend their liquor licenses, which is the only legal grounds to enforce a 21 year old limit. This of course leaves non-alcohol clubs and escort agencies free to hire anyone who can legally work for any other business i.e. 18 year olds. To enact new laws setting age limits for non-alcohol clubs and escort agencies which are different from businesses in general would also invite these new laws to include other provisions - such as contact and distance limits. No thanks !

I see your point. But also you have to take into account that not all eighteen year olds are made from the same cloth. Some might have had life experiences that made them more mature than your advrage eighteen year old. Also dancing is like being an athlete you have a limited amount of time in your prime so you better make the most of it. I think since you are considered an adult at eighteen you should be able to make an adult discison like becoming a dancer. Granted I agree with you completly that most eighteen year olds are like little obnoixous kids. I started dancing when I was twenty. I can not imagine dancing when I was eighteen. I would have had a breakdown and quit right away probably. Since I waited til I was more mature I can manage to make it profitable in my life. But some girls dance to help with school and since you usually start collage at eighteen this is perfect so no I think eighteen year olds should be allowed to dance.

I think the drinking age should be 18 since you're considered a legal adult at that age, so I don't think girls should have to be 21 to dance. But boy, should they get better training!

10 years is al anyone need to do well and retire in this business Lilac, there is no need to rush into it at 18 and if you notice, dancers make their most money between the ages of 24-35,most of the clubs I have worked at the girls under that age were too busy trying to sneak drinks in the back or the ones of legal age in the 21-24 age group are to busy talking and drinking to make money, most of the top upscale money making clubs I have worked in have always had a 21 rule in place,I guess they know what they are doing.

Indiana allows people as young as 18 to work in establishments with a liquor license, although you have to be twenty-one to hold a bartenders license or serve. Strangely enough, sixteen yearolds can work at grocery stores that sell beer and wine and can even ring up the sale, but cannot put the beer or wine in your grocery sack. Is that the height of silliness, or what?

Anyway, most SCs in Indiana will allow you to dance at eighteen. A few do not. I never saw any problem with eighteen yearolds dancing. There is a very limited time for a person to make her money in this business and denying them three prime earning years is foolish.

In NYC I got my bartending license as soon as I turned 18 and worked in a strip club to learn the business, after about 7-8 months I quit and started dancing, so at 19 now, I make more than most 25-30 year olds in my club.
All you have to do is have a good head on your shoulders, age doesn't matter.

Its not so much that I object to 18-20 year old dancers dancing in a club that serves alcohol, but I wish the authorities would give 18-20 year old customers the same rights to visit such a place under the same "as long as they don't consume" reasoning that allows dancers to work there.

Lowering the legal drinking age to 18 would solve the whole problem.

Yea right dr. We have clubs, and the guys have to be 21 to get in, 18 for girls. drinking or not.

I just think as far as strip clubs, there is a difference between 18 and 21. A 21 year old just may have more 'smarts' about her. I don't know, 18 seems kinda young, fresh outa school, have not done much more you would think, they are young! At least 21 you have 3 more years of education/living on you.

I have never seen a girl that started out at 18 not have issues with drugs and men. I hope there are exceptions.

I think that time in college, feeling like a productive human being and knowing you have something to offer the world other than your looks is very healthy. I also think being out of the house and being poor for awhile makes you appreciate having the money and doing the responsible saving thing. I also think there is a time when it stops being important to be popular and fit in. I'm not sure when it happens, but it's nice to fit in with the "in" crowd when you're young....and that crowd is usually bad news in strip clubs.

Where I live they will hire you as a dancer at 18, but not allow you in to be a patron until 21. I think that if they want to hire younger girls, they should let them get into the club and see what they're getting into. It makes me very suspicious that it doesn't work that way. That's why I waited until I was 21. I refuse to work somewhere if I'm not allowed to even walk in and sit. Ridiculous.

Bella, you can't know right now if this is the best thing for you. Right now it seems great, but think back to when you were 13 or 14 and all the dumb mistakes you made that you'd never make now.

The same applies for when you're 26 or 27 and you look back on when you were 20....you think "man, I thought I knew it all then, but I knew nothing"

That is the way it is in Vegas. It went into effect mid-May. You can dance in nude clubs if you are 18-21 because they don't serve alcohol. It all has to do with alcohol. You can't be a server in a restaurant that serves alcohol if you are under 21. I started dancing when I was 23 and I know I wouldn't have been able to handle it well when I was 20. Too much partying, alcohol and drugs. I finished that scene at 21. I don't think many girls could handle it at 18. Bella, you might be the exception or Emily might be right. I like that no one under 21 dances at the clubs I dance at. Before that rule went into effect they were getting drunk at work even though they were not supposed too. With all the dancers in Vegas its hard for management , servers, and bartenders to keep track, if they even cared.

Before I danced I worked in the service industry. Waitress, bartender, beertub girl, Hooter's girl. It would suck not to be able to do any of those things until you are 21 (with the exception of bartender and beertub girl). In KS (where I was 6 months ago) you could serve alcohol if you are under 21, just not pour or open a container.

There are ALWAYS exceptions to everything. I don't do drugs and I don't need alcohol to work. I love dancing and all the attention I get when I'm on stage. I go to school and live with my parents who think I still bartend.

... But I'd feel really small if I "wasn't old enough" to dance. I think when you're 18, you're adult enough to do what you want with your body. Of course, not everyones the same, there are people 30 who should still be "underage"...

18 and up to dance and i think to serve drinks too,at my club. the drinking age here in fl used to be 18 untill about 1980. i think if you are old enough to die in war you should be able to have a beer!

oh and it's 21 to get in my club

Velvet you make a great point. I started driving went I was 17. Some kids at the age of 16 could be consider an adult by law. And you could smoke and play lotto at the age of 18. Blame the goverment.

Also I'm 19 raised twin boys on my own. I very mature to make my own decision. And I dont drink or smoke. So I really doesnt matter if your under 21 to work at a club that serves alcohol. Not all dancers drink.

I started out when I was 18, and I didn't do drugs. I don't have problems with men now, or when I was dancing. Frankly between fulltime college and part-time dancing, I had a very limited amount of time for men. I paid for college for myself and I paid my bills by dancing. I saved money and when I graduated and retired from dancing, I had money in the bank. Along the way, I paid my brother's rent and tuition for a while too. In the clubs where I worked, there were always a large number of college girls doing exactly what I was doing, making money!

Now it's also true that there were girls from the hills who would come in to the clubs at 18 and get messed up, hit the booze and the drugs, and take up with undesirable men. Mostly men who brought them in the first place. But, I work for a Fortune 500 company today and guess what, there are 18 year olds working for us who blow their paychecks and get involved with drugs and undesireable men and women. There's age and there's maturity. The two sometimes go together, and sometimes don't.

I agree with Zofia. I am 18 and I admit I've had my days when I was too bright and I did my share of getting fucked up on all kinds of drugs and drinking. But I burned myself out on partying and I don't do it anymore. I'll have a drink once in a while but that's hardly ever. I know better than to go down that road again. Stripping is my job and I go there, make my money and go home. There's always going to be a controversy with what age you should be allowed to do stuff at, some 16 year olds should not be allowed behind the wheel and some are, same with drinking and gambling and stripping. But I do find that weird that I can strip at a bar that serves alcohol at 19 but I can't sit and watch till I'm 21. [what]

Becoming a dancer at 18 (which I did), you tend to learn about the business the hard way. [cry] As you get older and mature more (I'm about to turn 23 in January), you know what to do and what not to do in this industry.

The 18 year olds I've seen these days, they're not mentally or emotionally capable of being a dancer. I get to know about them and see myself when I was 18. However, the industry was so much different then... [wiggle]

I just think it's important to feel out what you are capable of doing with yourself besides turning men. If you're going to school, it's completely different scenario....it's a balance of feeling empowered by your looks and brains. There is an end in site...and it's only better than what it is now.

I'm concerned about the girls that go into this business with nothing balancing them out....to make them feel good about themselves so they don't have to rely on men in a strip club and other strippers (as friends) to do it for them.

if a girl can handle it at 18, great. Age really is just a number. I just feel it's very important to have a sense of who you are before going into it because if you don't know, you'll get very lost.

    I agree with Emily.

What's the difference between 18 and 21. At any age you start. You going to feel intimated. Seeing everything that is going on around you. But it depend on the person on how they control themselves. It have nothing to do with age.

I think for legal and temptation reasoning the drinking age should match the legal age. 18 or 21 whichever...... I think they should just pick one or the other. I find it screwy that it is legal to work in a place but not legal to get in as a customer. ???

Is it true that the legal age to dance in Las Vegas USED to be 16 or is that just a old wives tale?
