    Default Broken Toe

Ok so last night I went to school and went got my nails done, ate some dinner and went home. Nothing out of the ordinary, right? I woke up this morning and my toe is swollen and bruised and I can't move it or walk on it at all! I'm not positive that it's broken but trust me it feels like it. I called my doctor and he can't get me in till tomorrow and I'm not going to the Emergency Room my insurance doesn't cover that. So what am I supposed to do? Damn it! [cry]

I work with a girl who has a dislocated toe, she needs to get surgery but doesn't want to take the time off dancing. The manager lets her wear these cute platform sneakers to cushion her toes. It's her trademark now Hmm, when my sister broke her toe... it didn't take TOO long to heal.

How long is too long? My mom says probably about 4 weeks if I stay off it totally but I can't take that much time off. GRRR! [grr]

I broke my toe and at first I just thought I stubbed it, until the next morning, it took 2 weeks to heal. I didn't go to the doctor, because there is not much you can really do for it

like an idiot i broke both of my big toes at the same time. treatment was just taping those toes to the adjacent ones as to not disturb it and not hobbling around on it. not fun.

Done that - ouch! Broke my baby toe on my last day of vacationing in Maui, walked almost the entire length of the San Francisco airport without a shoe to catch my connecting flight. It swelled like crazy and bruised half my foot.
There is nothing that the doctor will do, they will advise you to rest and elevate, maybe tape it to the adjacent toe to use as a splint.
The immediate discomfort should wear off within a couple of days, but it will take a long time to feel 100% again (could be months, depending). I was dancing about 1 1/2 weeks later, but only in open-toe shoes, and I was cautious. A couple of times I banged it a little and it freakin hurt! It was a good 2-3 months before I could comfortably dance in boots, and probably 5 months before I was completely healed.
    Good luck!

I had a serious motorcycle accident a few years back which has made my left foot less responsive than the right in the lifting of the toes department.

Two years ago on my birthday I was doing a pole trick (yes a bit under the influence, LOL) and landed right on my left foot toes, the middle two or three, which were not lifting quickly enough, thus breaking them. It took a while before I could walk without favoring them, but four weeks may not be necessary, that sounds like a bit too long to recover--though you may not feel like leaping all over the stage for that long.

Try to do more floor work and ask the DJ to play slower music, that will help. Give it a few days while you stay off it, but then don't baby the foot, try to walk on it as much and as soon as you can without torturing yourself.

Get some adhesive tape (clear would be more inconspicuous) and tape the suspected toe to an adjacent toe. When you find time , have it X-rayed. THat is the procedure even if the toe is broken.
In the meanwhile try not to put weight on that foot, get rest, and wear open toed shoes if possible.

So I went to the DR today and it's worse than I thought. I had to go to school yesterday and walk all the way from the overflow parking lot to class and I think that aggravated it because I was in so much pain I had to leave. He said I fractured my toe and the fracture goes all the way down into my foot and I ripped some tendons. He said 4-6 weeks before I can get back on stage. I'm in a cast now with crutches and then in 3 weeks they want to see how I'm healing and put me in a walking boot. This sux! [argh]
