Default Are dancers good tippers as a rule?

I know everyone is diiferent but as a general rule do you think dancers tend to be good tippers in their personal lives?

My guess is yes. I work in retail and my wife used to work in food service before I knew her. We are both VERY cognizant of being good tippers because we are so aware of what a b*tch it is to work with the public. 15% is what I give a waitress for average service, more if they go out of their way to be good.

Is that how a lot of you ladies feel?
Anyone with a memory should be very humble.

Oh yeah, I always tip well - even if the service is poor, I still leave a reasonable tip. I generally tip about 20%, because nowadays the standard tip is supposed to be 18% (which is an odd number to figure in my head). For poor service I will leave 15%. If the service is excellent, I leave more, usually in the neighborhood of 25%. I can't stand to see someone under-tipping or not tipping at all!

Of course if I hang out at a strip club (which is rare), I always tip the girls well - never a measly $1.

I admit if the service is very bad i don't leave a good tip. But that happens in a rare case.

For the most part, i tip well. I know the feeling.

Good for you, Pamela. Tipping well after truly atrocious service only perpetuates more of the same.

I have served dancers over the years at the bars I have worked at. For the most part, we loved them coming in, because they turned out to be fun people, very low maintence, and tipped great, although it was always a battle to do our part to fend off the near constant stream of would-be suitors from them.

While there are always exceptions to every rule, for the most part people who live off tips from the general public know the feeling when your service is undertipped. Its a crappy feeling. You develop an empathy for your fellow tip earners, no matter what the job. I am sometimes generous to a fault when tipping, but to me, its worth it. I give what I want.

More than once, at a SC, when a dancer asked me what I do, I have gotten a "Oh, so you know.." response when I tell them I am a bartender.

I worked as a waitress, bartender, and beertub girl before I danced and I tip well. If the service is bad I don't tip as well depending on service. If the waiter/ess, bartender, etc., is slammed and trying to take care of me as well as everyone else, I am understanding as to why it may take awhile to get to me. If the server is uncaring, rude, super-slow(when the place is not busy), and shows no customer service skills, I can tip below average. If I go to a SC I always tip well.

I'm a great tipper 'cause I realize that when I go out, tipping is part of the package. People are working to please me, and I respect that. Also, if I get bad service I make it a point to tell the server, "just so you know, I'm not leaving you a great tip because I thought it was rude when you did x-y-z." I don't ever want someone just to think I am a lousy tipper, and I've also bartended for years...so if I get shitty service, I open my mouth.

I was taught to tip well as a child. Very Italian upbringing LOL. But yes, now that I work in a tip-based income industry, it is drilled into my head even more.

Oh yes! I tip well. And always talk to them......I know service jobs are hard.
One of the smartest girls I met in passing was working at Target, in beauty school....she said she thought people tipped hairdressers poorly so I always tip for hair.

I have always tipped very well. I've worked in Customer Service, Retail, Restaurants, etc, as well as when I danced. I know how things are on the other side. Waitresses get blamed for everything.. When the food is not cooked right, the servers suffer by getting a crappy tip or none at all. That's just an example, as there are a TON of situations that they get blamed for yet have no control over.

I have always tipped hairdressers well, except for one time where my hair was cut too short. When I finished crying (literally, right there in the shop), I tipped her the minimum, but I did tip her.

If people can accept tips, I give them generously.

Me, I don't leave tips or not leave tips to teach a lesson - honestly, I figure if the service is bad the person is new or is having a bad day. Here the standard tip is 15% - I generally leave about 20 - 25% (although, keep in mind that I never eat anywhere expensive or anything, so it's still pretty meagre).

I'm a hefty tipper, and another who refuses to award bad service.

I disagree with the OP that it is a standard thing among dancers. At least among the dancers I work with, a small portion are the best tippers, a somewhat larger portion throw a few dollars around and about half never tip a damned thing if they can get away with it, from the way the DJ and the bouncers talk. The dancers usually give some reason along the lines of it not being "right" to have to tip out but I've been to breakfast with enough of them to know that it's an excuse - they never tip anyone.

I have to agree about dancers being good tippers more often than not. Most of my dancer friends are very good tippers.

I personaly tip 20% or higher for really good service. For poor service I drop down to the 15% range.

I will always tip for good service...or even if they are just doing there job. Bad service otoh no I wont tip. If everyone just does their job even as a min. great super. I know people work hard and apprciate the money that is given to me. I give back to people who are doing their jobs very well. 20% or more depending on the type of job.

At restaurants I always tip about 20% and more if the service was great. However, when it comes to my hair stylist, esthetician and manicurist I always tip 30%+ and find that the service is always superb!!

I know this is an old post, but....

I usually tip 25% in resturants, 30-40 for a great job, 15-20 for poor service. I am remembered in the resturants I go frequently, and get "extras" (hehe) and discounts.
I figure, I make enough to do so, and karma!!!! plus, tipped employees are so disrespected!

I thought 20% is pretty much standard everywhere - so I guess I'm an okay tipper.

I tip pretty well but that's due to my years in the food industry, not because I'm a dancer.

I tip well most of the time. Normally 20%+. There have been times that my family told me to not leave as much, but I did it anyway.

Hehe. Yeah old thread but still good. Not only do I tip nicely, but I will watch the guy I'm with if he's paying for dinner, to make sure HE tips as well.

All strippers I've ever known either tip well or flat-out OVERtip. But this works with people in other service industries too. I also worked as a waitress for years so I was a good tipper long before I ever danced.

^ I agree with Bridgette. And yes, I have definitely seen strippers who overtip or go tip-crazy, giving tip money to employees who make their earning from an hourly rate and don't work for tips. (At some places such as McDonalds, you're actually not allowed to accept tips!) It's even more annoying when I am hanging out with these people, and they urge me to dip into my pockets and contribute to what they consider an "appropriate tip" for say, a cashier or something.

I tip well and hope to be respected from doing so, along with my easygoing demeanor. Sometimes assholes don't appreciate it, though! For example, this mustached overweight bartender Rich Wiley from Finneys Bar in Doylestown, PA. I don't think anyone likes him. But he was especially mean to me in years past. Oh well, a year ago I went back to meet up with friends there and because I was trying to forgive and forget. I tipped that loser $3 on every $4.50 drink to show my appreciation for his service! He seemed grateful, but a few visits later, he'd figured out who I was(I'd gotten a BA and different hair since before), and started hating on me again...for things in the past, things that weren't anything I did wrong!(long story) Sooo rude. I generally tip 20% or above, and when I tip nicely, I'd like the people to appreciate it as much as I do, when I overthank a guy for tipping me!

I am a very good tipper, sometimes I would say too much so. I am the one who always looks at the tab and tip amount (even when I am not paying)to make sure the waiter/waitress/bartender is getting a good tip. If I dont think the tip amount is sufficient, I will either encourage them to tip alittle more or just pull out some money of my own. I guess I am guilty of over tipping, but I think its better than under tipping IMHO.

I'm generally a good tipper and I encourage my friends to leave 20% whenever we go to restaurants as well, especially if they are having trouble calculating a good amount themselves. I will also be a bit of a jackass sometimes... like if the person in front of me orders ridiculously ornate drinks that slow down everyone's coffee and they don't tip, I'll loudly and incredulously ask the barista if that person bothered to tip, and then tip them extra. Heh. It's obnoxious though when you get bad service but the lowest I go is 15%. If I'm eating for less than $10 and it's a place I'd like to be remembered , I'll tip up to 50% depending on how much $$ I have on me.
