    Default Billboard Advertising

So I just got back from an 8 day vacation where I drove to Atlanta, attended a wedding there, drove to Virginia to visit family, and drove back to New Jersey. While driving up Route 85 in Georgia I saw an amazing sight.. well.. a bunch of amazing sights. Apparently there is a "Club Risque" or something like that in Northeastern Georgia that has a large billboard budget. About 10 miles from the club, I started seeing huge yellow and red billboards for it. As I got closer, they started coming more frequently. At one point, there were 6 billboards for the club all within 100 feet of each other. I estimate that the club had maybe 12 to 15 billboards all together along the road - all yellow and red touting "Topless" etc etc. (must make for a fun family outing driving down that road with the kids). The last one actually said "Exit Now or you will miss it!".

I have seen clubs advertise on billboards, but nothing like this example of total overkill. Anyone else experience this sort of thing?

Oh, and can anyone tell my why there are 100,000,000 Waffles Houses in the South? ???

    Pres,
As a veteran of the I-75 corridor, I would refer to this as the "See Rock city" phenomenon. Which is a variant of the BurmaShave Syndrome.
In more urban setting such as New York it is plastering the wall board surrounding construction sites and trash cans with stickers for concerts.
    Made you look didn't it?
I suspect it is the "wear em down and they'll get curious" philosopy.

And the South has so many Waffle Houses for the same reason there were 10 Gazillion Stuckey's 40 years ago. Everyone I have ever seen was a hole in the wall Mom and pop francise. With low franchise fees anyone can have a franchise. How many ways can you make grits and pancakes?
For the complete story see http://wafflehouse.com/franchise.htm

Ps there are only 1400 or so,
    HEHEHEHEHE

there is a club like that in north fla, with many signs for it on 95 north bound, funny as it is 24 hours and mostly caters to truckers i think. there was even a sign on the building bashing some local pol after a fight to keep it open succeeded. i laughed at that
    As quoted by Luckyone:
I asked directions from a genie in a bottle of jim beam and she lied to me.

And here I thought you were going to make a post defending the Waffle house, Jordan. hehehe

Remember the first rule of business. "Any sign controversy is free advertising." In fact any controvery other than folks getting food poisoning is free advertising. Billboards are fairly cheap advertising and have one major advantage--they are usually under the control of national outfits who are out for money only and do not care about "maintaining family values for the good decent folks of Podunkville" like the local media baron who runs the radio station and the local paper and rights the drivel for the Sunday editorial page.
