Default Dancers who've worked in SF and Elsewhere.

Do you think the Clubs in the SF Bay Area tend to be a little more Socialistic and treat the dancers better than elsewhere in the U.S.A?

    Let's here your opinions.

Ok now I have never worked in SF but I laughed out loud reading that.... SF clubs treating dancers better than other areas across the US ???
is that a typo or something?

It is my understanding that SF clubs are pretty much straight out brothels with a few exceptions.
I can't imagine that being a good work environment or being an area that treats its dancers well at all !

You know ,this question should be addressed to those who've worked in the S.F. area AND elsewhere.

What my ex means by "socialistic" is that the clubs, (don't really seem to pull petty stuff like taking $110 out of every $200 you make, or forbiding you to work elsewhere because they have an open shift you can take etc. etc). The clubs do get thier cut mind you, but the really petty stuff is kept at a minimum as compared to elsewhere.

As for this question I'm just curious about the validity of her conclusion. That's why posted it. I'm curious as to what the rest of the dancers think.

I've also read the same posts about the SF brothel factor.

My experiance has been that it doesn't really go on in the upscale clubs, but the lower echelon clubs are another story. (Say "Nasty Girl" at an upscale club and you'll see a Chorus of dancers going eww followed by the words "Crack Whores", and god forbid you are a "Nasty Girl" the others will gang up on you and run you out of the club).

I've seen that type of behavior at my work, and it's vicious. God forbid how bad it must be at a strip club...

From what I understand Deja Blew owns SF, and they DO pull petty shit like taking $110 out of $200, PLUS house fees of $200 +. So much for socialism.

You have a point Dreamer, but a strip club is a strip club actually. What happens in SF happens in Florida. I can assure you that. I never worked in SF. But have had conversations with dancers from this board who have.

Tonite i was in such a state of shock, a friend of mine (well kinda friend) was offered a LD at_____ here in Fl, he declined. She asked him to come back the next night, wear loose shorts, and no underwear, she said it will be the best LD he ever got. He went back, and she gave a grind with his penis entering her!!!!! WTF. I hit that club alot. He said you would never know what was going on, then went deeper into detail. How sad.

If it is not happening in the club now, it either did or will it seems. Thats what we try to keep out when we dance. Can't say i miss the clubs. I don't.

    Just my thoughts,
    Pamela

I'm with you 100%, Pamela. Rather than being "Socialistic", I would say that S.F. clubs, if anything, operate in more of a "free market" environment than anywhere else in the USA. Because the S.F. district attorney is on record that prostitution charges will not be pursued unless the activity is taking place on streetcorners, S.F. clubs and dancers are as free as any clubs in the country to offer club customers what they're looking for. As any dancer who has worked in S.F. clubs can tell you, this has resulted in customers expecting "everything", and dancers individually competing for their business to the point of individually posting the activities available on their "menu", with their prices for each activity, on internet sites! This is as far from "socialism" as you can get.

From an "official" standpoint, clubs in S.F. collect stage fees , percentages, and expect tipouts just like clubs anywhere else. Also, the California state legislature has passed an "employee dancer" law which in theory at least supposedly affords California dancers some protections and securities similar to those that "straight job employees" take for granted. However, in reality, these protections and securities don't exist.

IMHO, S.F. clubs offer the worst of all possible worlds, as the "freedom" available in club/dancer activities has caused the entire business to sink to the lowest common denominator.

I have danced in SF for several years and I have moved, I refuse to work in SF strip clubs nowadays.

With the exception of the Lusty Lady, which is dancer-owned, the exotic dancing industry is a monopoly here in SF. The Lusty Lady isn't a strip club in the traditional sense of the word, more a peep show venue with art school students and the more alternative types, not your mainstream looking dancer.

99% percent of all clubs are owned by Deja Vu, including Hustler Club (upscale, Topless), LA Gals, hole in the wall on Market Street, New Century Theater, definitely brothel-like, did anyone catch the all girl gang bang there recently?, Market Street Cinema, definitely another brothel like environment, Hungry-I, topless venue on Broadway, Centerfolds, upscale and very Playboy types on Broadway, Roaring 20s, and Little Darlings which the manager termed "the nastiest club on Broadway" with many lesbian shows.
Deja Vu charges the highest stage fees, the amounts are ridiculous and if you give them trouble, you are sure not going to work at any of the other DV clubs in the area, which is tough luck for you since 99% are DV clubs.

The few other non Deja Vu clubs are Crazy Horse with many features, Penthouse (though this may be owned by DV at this point, not sure), Boys Toys, and the infamous Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Street Theatre with gorgeous mainstream, Playboy types. Mitchell Brothers is a "disneyland of the sex world".

Back to why I don't dance at SF clubs. I have seen way too much going on and managaement encouraging this behavior. When I say high mileage, that is an understatement. Touching is pretty much allowed, BJs, hand jobs, full service, I've seen it all.

And the laws in SF are very lenient. Sex shows between dancers are very common, especially at New Century, did anyone happen to check out the all girl gang bang? http://www.newcenturysf.com
and Mitchell Brothers is another one with very high mileage.

The reason I am telling you this is to give you an idea of what SF clubs are like, and at least, on a personal note, why I no longer dance in SF clubs. The website World Sex.Org has a section with comments and stories by men who have found sexual satisfaction at various SF strip clubs. Granted Worldsex.org http://www.worldsexguide.org/sf_strip.txt.html is an escort and prostitution based webpage, it offers a perspective on how many customers view SF strip clubs, as places with high mileage and contact. While this may be irrelevant to you, I just wanted to make a point as to how SF clubs operate.

This is just my two cents, I have since relocated to Southern California, and I have to say the clubs are so much better down here.

Dear Pam and others. I don't know about the S.F. being more socialistic than other parts of the country. Socialism to me means everyone gets treated the same reguardless of your ability. I assure you ,that is not the case in S.F. It may be more liberal than the rest of the country but I don't think that deters dancers from working here.
A club here is the same as a club there. I think if it is part of a chain then yes. I've been to a DEja Vu in Washington and Nevada and they seem pretty much the same. But as far as dancers avoiding the S.F. area, I don't know about that. At the S.F. Deja Vu they have dancers coming from all different branches in different states and it doesn't seem to deter them at all.

Boys Toys, now known as Showgirls is actually owned by Deja Vu as well. I used to work there, but with the new changes, have not been back since.

I currently work in the SF bay area BUT definitely NOT in SF itself. I never have nor ever will work in SF, a great place to visit as a customer. I work in Sunnyvale, the south bay area and is a COMPLETELY different environment than San Francisco. Deja Vu does own most of all clubs in SF and takes more than half your cash, extras are more than common but are expected. The south bay area is the most conservative place I have ever worked in contrast. I still work out of state as well (midwest) but when at home I work in Sunnyvale at the Kit Kat Club, which remains the CLEANEST work environment I have ever encountered. Money used to be awesome here but with the economic slump that really effected the Silicon Valley, I have been visiting other states. The money there is slowly trickling back in and so I will continue to work in the south bay area which is the BEST place to work in all of California, in my experience. Hope this helps...

Diva, I've been to the Kit Kat club and have known girls who have danced there. I agree, south bay is much much better than SF clubs. I am now in Orange County and I love it here as well.
