Default When you first started dancing...

    ...Which was harder for you.

Dancing on stage and stripping and feeling like all eyes were on you doing something that your whole life you had been told was wrong. (Taking off you clothes in public etc),

    Or

Walking around in the club after and having to talk one on one with the guys who had watched you dance?

In my male imagination I would think that the stripping on stage would be much easier. Somehow the stage would feel like a barrier between you and the crowd or even you and reality. Plus I would think it would be a thrill to have all those strangers worshiping you etc... But for me stepping down into the crowd would seem much more intimidating. How did you feel?

Or was it something else altogether that seemed like the hardest part?

I don't work at a club where we have to hustle, (we just sort of sit back in like a "dancer's lounge" and the guys come to you for dances), so unless I am dancing for a guy, I really don't mingle in the crowd too much. But when I did work at my first club where mingling with the crowd was completely necessary for dances, that was not intimidating at all. I'd say it was more intimdating being on the stage and taking my clothes off and having everyone size you up. But only if they were gawkers and non-tippers and the uneasiness was only at first. Then I became used to both parts of the job; interacting with the crowd and dancing onstage. I've always loved being onstage and dancing.

What made me think of this thread is that as a musician I was ok playing in front of crowds of hundreds of people as long as I had my guitar and was on stage etc. But if you put me in front of a group of people with no instrument or in a social situation I would be much more nervous and ill at ease.

Stage is the best, never really liked the one on one, and actually stage had me get over any anxiety over anything such as talking to crowds or groups etc. I can take the floor quite comfortably.

The 'one on one' too personal - and yet so impersonal (being nice to be paid) the whole thing just troubled me.

Never explain yourself to anyone, because the person who likes you doesn't need it and the person that dislikes you won't believe it.

    Hi Kaiyla and Leigh,

Thanks for the responses. I knew it would be different for everyone but to me it seems like being on stage would be the fun part of the job, or at least the part that would seem more glamorous.

I'm with Leigh for the most part. Talking with strange men who mostly just wanted to get in your pants was not the always the greatest :-/
Performing on stage for me was a piece of cake for because of my background. Learning the ropes of hustling was much more difficult. And I never did get very good at hustling actually. After awhile I just starting focusing of certain types of customers who my stronger points seemed to appeal to instead. Learning to read and project body language was immeasurable helpful to me as an exotic dancer.

My first night ever, I was hired without an audition and told to not mention this was my first night (??!!??) as the "other girls would eat me alive" as the manager put it. Luckily, I was already used to being onstage for other reasons and had practiced my "moves" for so long that even that first stage was exhilerating. So the stage has remained a safety zone to this day.

I don't think anything can prepare a girl for that lapdance hustle, no matter how good of advice and instruction you're given, and I was given both by a good friend.

The stage was all mine. I always wanted to be on stage. I had no problem walking the floor and chatting. But the stage is where every eye in the place could see me....Even while he was getting a Ld from another dancer!!!!

The stage was easier for me and still is. I love being on stage! The first club I worked at involved little to no hustle. We walked around asking every single person for a tip after our stage set, so that was a good opportunity for them to ask us for a lapdance or to offer a drink (which we made money off of). I am in Vegas now and it is all hustle. Definitely hard for me to get used to at first, and I rarely get onstage.

For me, stage is a chore. I've never really felt comfortable up there, kind of a waste of time. I get tipped well; but I avoid it at all cost. I pay for skips.

When I first started dancing, the hardest thing to get used to was the fact that I had to walk up to a guy and convince him that he wanted to see me naked. Hell, of course he would; but it's a game you've got to learn and get used to.

Stage is still easier, and I'm the type that doesn't like getting up in front of people. I know it sounds strange, but in a way, the crowd makes me feel more anonymous.
