Default Woot!  I'm Back in the Business!

I'm finally back in the business, doing the security and DJ thing at a local club. I'd been out for a year and a half. Didn't realize how much I'd missed it.

Congrats Dave. It must be nice.

Every place I go, I fill out applications and never get anywhere. I'm told by some of the girls I know that were dancers that you have to "know someone" to get a chance. Naturally, I'm friendly with everyone I meet, but it's not helping at all. I can't even get a chance to audition.

Having no experience certainly doesn't help but it's the old catch-22 - you have no experience, so no thanks, but we won't hire you, so you'll never get any experience.

Eibon,I will give you a little hint on how to cinch your way in,go to a club that you want to work, get really friendly with the dj, buy him drinks ,shoot the shit and ask him if you can get on the mike, continue dropping in now and then andI gurantee if they get like a swing shift oppening, they will call you, then you will get the experience you need, even if the shifts suck and you can work your way up from their,it will definately get your foot in the door.I have seen this happen in numerous clubs and my daughters father has been a dj for 8 years at the top club in town, good luck.

Thanks Michele. I actually met a really cool DJ at the club I was trying to get into last week and he offered to let me do a couple practice sets before my audition, I didn't even have to ask.

BUT I think he must have been drunk that night and friendlier than usual, because the next time I came in I was informed that someone was hired already (I was told I would get an audition) and that he couldn't let me do any sets. At that point it seemed that if I were on fire he wouldn't piss on me to put it out. And I wasn't pestering him or anything either.

Another bad thing about this area is only one of the clubs (the one I was supposed to try out at) open at 2pm, the others open at 4pm (all of them close at 2am), so a lot of them seem to get away with only 1 DJ working per day.

    I will keep trying :-/

Hi Ravin. There are 5 or 6 clubs in my area with another opening in the near future, so I don't think that's the answer.

However, if I can get a job, I would love to move to south Florida or Vegas in a couple years and get a job there.

Good luck in those openings, hope something works out. One question though, if you really want to work in Flordia or Vegas why wait a couple years? I would think it would make more since just to go and get settled now. That's just me though.

    Thanks.

Many reasons... I like this area and am not tired of it yet, my financial situation is not good at all, so I want to fix my credit up and be able to buy a HOUSE when I move, no more of this apartment nonsense.

I went in tonight and was told they just hired someone, but the head DJ will still let me get on the mic Friday night so he can hear me for future reference.
