    Default rough start

Ok so last Monday I stripped for the first time for an amateur contest -- didn't even place; tripped on my own shoes; gloves got caught on zipper momentarily -- barely got any applause and forget about tips. I guess I have a lot to learn ...

How do you learn those tricks and stuff on the poles? Does everything just take time or something?

    OH LORD YES!

    Well, these things are typical.
The first time is pretty embarassing, no matter how excited you are. It can be paralyzing.

I wasn't quite paralyzed, but I had no outfit so I had to borrow another dancer's negligee. Also hadn't shaven you know where at all. They just kinda threw me on stage and kapow!I got naked.

You learn trricks when you get over your fear of falling on your head. workout and have faith and confidence in your body. Get to know your stage. Do what you are comfortable with in the beginning, but always aspire to do better.

Never underestimate the power of eye contact. It makes anything you do look better. Customers look mainly at your eyes and face, believe it or not.

Don't ever turn your back on your tips.

    Good luck!

Ophelia that was your first step. You did it! Alot are afraid to do contests.

It takes more time yes. More practice at home. As for learning pole tricks, you got to go to it. Watch others on your off shift, and go in before opening if allowed, or after hours for half hour.

My first time i was not going back. I was a royal mess. But i went back, and kept on going. Before long i started blocking out the crowds that made me nervous, and started to focus more on my positive traits instead of every little thing i did wrong.

It worked, but took conditioning. In time the newness wears off.

    Good luck,
    Pamela

It takes time. Just practice standing in front of your mirror at home and moving your hips... lean on a door jam and see if you can do a body wave... remember it's more important that you FEEL sexy than that you look anything. If you feel sexy you will look sexy.

    Hi O!,

Hey you did it! That is the first step and now you never have to be a first timer again. Think of it this way, if you were a musician, would you expect to get a standing ovation the first time you tuned up your guitar?

Your instrument is your body and no matter how gorgeous you are it takes time to get the full potential out of your instrument. Don't be too hard on yourself, just learn from the experience.

That which does not kill you makes you stronger.

Thanks for the great advice guys. I'm going to work on Saturday-day for the first time and possibly Sunday night -- slow hours, but that's ok, I have to learn a lot. Hopefully I'm a quick study

Ok so I had my first full shift today and I think I did all right -- only $150, but that's ok, it was a slow shift. Now I am all excited about it heh.

Everything takes time to do something really well. It usually takes time for people to work up the courage to step onto a stage alone. The best people in the business got there because they put the hours in. If you want to get there then start putting in the hours. Congatulations so far.

Ophelia- I have been dancing for about a year now. I also tripped on the stage and fell flat on my butt. (and that was my 3rd or 4th time on stage) The first couple of times that I went on stage with my 6" heels, I barely even moved. I was to afraid that I might fall. It takes time to walk in those horrible stripper shoes which are definately the worst shoes for dancing. A lot of clubs require dancers to wear those awful 6" heels right off the bat. I would suggest buying shoes by a company called Ellie. Most of their shoes have nice soft rubber soles that grip the stage so that you won't fall as easily. If you can't find shoes with soft rubber soles like the rubber on tennis shoes or flip flops, take them to a shoe repair place.
Practice dancing IN YOUR SHOES at home in front of a mirror.
Keep it up! You will look back in a few months and be so proud of yourself.

Also look on the web for videos for exotic dancers by Fawnia Mondey. Her videos still help me to this day. P.S. Most dancers don't make their money on the stage anyways. It's all about selling lap dances.
Most people prefer to believe their leaders are just and fair even in the face of evidence to the contrary, because once a citizen acknowledges that the government under which they live is lying and corrupt, the citizen has to choose what he or she will do about it. - M Rivero

Oh my is that the truth- I laughed out loud reading that!

It takes time, and in the begining less is more- less complicated costumes, less difficult stage moves etc. will help you look sexier and more confident

My best advice to a newbie is to save as much of what you earn as humanly possible!

    PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE [dazzled]

Smile, keep trying, be polite to the costumers, doll yourself up, and did I say KEEP TRYING!!!

Kick your legs around, get on your knees, show them your a$$, walk sexy, twirl around, make eye contact....

Get in front of the mirror at home and practice some more! [monkeydance]
