I'd say during the last part of my time working clubs ( many of you know I chose to work only the upscale no/low contact clubs) that 50% drop in attendance is about right and maybe even a little low- even in the most upscale clubs. I had to start traveling regularly to keep my earnings steadily in the high end. Like Melonie said some dancers just decided to do "more" to keep their money up. Others like me chose to go to the money, but it took extra work- following convention scheduals, paying close attention to where a traveling big spender was from and would be next business trip. I would act all surprised and say "Wow what a coincidence- I'm going to be working there next _ " or " I was thinking of checking out that city- what is a your favorite club ?" then working things so he's come see me in whatever city/club.
While a small minority of fortunate dancers may still be able to benefit from the fact that business levels in the very upscale clubs have not declined as much as at clubs in general, not all of us are so lucky. For most of us, some 50% of the business is already gone, at least in terms of average club earning potential if a girl does the same things she did 3 years ago !
IMHO the widespread availability of webcams today does not appeal to the very upscale show club customers who go to clubs as a business/social experience.
Things are way different money wise in clubs than even just 5 years ago. It used to be that you could just work 2/3 nights a week in a showclub and make $3000-$5000 take home with no effort at all. Now it takes work.
My advice is to follow the money. Read your newspapers, keep up on current events especially in the corporate world. If you are able get out on the road and go to the money instead of waiting for it to walk in the door.
