Do you mean you currently weigh 200 lbs? I'm assuming so.

That isn't that much. Just diet. You know what you need to do there. Eat responsibly and exercise. If you need more direction, try something like ediets.com or Weight Watchers. There are a couple of threads about losing weight in Body Business.

Also, if you are like a size 11, you can probably get hired at some clubs. There are some heavy dancers out there, but they aren't working at the more upscale clubs.

5'8" is definitely not too tall to be a dancer. No such thing. Many guys love tall women...and short women.

5'8" is not too tall to be a dancer... I'm 5'10" and do better the higher heels I wear! A lot of men love tall women! I weigh 145 and am a size 6... tall girls simply weigh a bit more. We take up more space! I lose money too much thinner than this weight. I've had potential customers say that I was "too skinny" at 139. My money suffered. We all have different builds, though, and I lift weights making me more muscular and muscle weighs more than fat.

As to weight: I had an aquaintance in Seattle (Rick's) who was on the plump side (sort of looking like Ricki Lake in her good phase). She was voluptuous but proportionate. She did fairly well and the dancing helped her take off the extra weight. Another friend danced at the Lusty Lady (Seattle) at my height with an extra 15 pounds and was a very popular girl there. She was a size 9/10.

I guess what i'm getting at is that tall girls run the risk of looking too thin if you're not careful (outside of pro-modelling)... You will probably be fine to start and be able to get to a healthy and attractive weight by dancing and eating well.

    Good Luck.

I'm 5'8" almost 5'9" and I weigh 140lbs. Lots of guy love tall girls. Everyone likes something different. I find it funny too becuase the customers who seem to like me are usually really short! LOL Just work out a little more. Once you start dancing you'll find you'll start losing the weight quicker. Dancing really works you out. Don't be too self conscience(sp?) though.

    Hi Eyez,

A lot depends on how you carry the weight you have. I have known ladies who have what might be called big butts but they just exudes sexuality because they are solid even though they are on the plus side shall we say.

If you are young, under 25 lets say, then a young solid girl can look a lot more sexy than a lady in her thirties at the same weight.

As for losing weight I also struggle with weight, I am not a hog but yeah I am always trying to keep the pounds off partly because I am older than most of the folks around here. It is a LOT harder to keep it off when you get older, trust me.

I exercise three times a week, and I eat as much as I want but I watch what I eat. LOADS of fruits, watch the fat etc, and that helps me a lot.

I have actually lost over a thousand pounds by dieting. But of course I gained back 985 of those pounds. LOL

Be honest with yourself and work on being your own personal best and then try to acheive your dreams.

Let's see... here are my general rules (carried over from when I was a poor college student)

First thing to remember is that you should think of your stomach as the size of a fist. Therefore each meal should be right around that size. You'll feel hungry at first but you'll adjust. If after eating that amount you wait 20 minutes and are still starving, eat a bit more. I think all of us are guilty of eating because we are bored, tired, or just think we need to finish our plate. Learn your body's signals.

As so many others wiser than myself have said, eat 6 small meals a day. Drink water.

Try not to drink coffee, it tends to make you hungrier later.

Don't eat out if you can help it. If you do, get the healthiest thing you can or simply only eat half of whatever you get.

Don't live off of Ramen noodles or Mac n Cheese: total carb/fat/ick bombs. In fact, try and stay away from packaged crap like that all together. Keep healthy things around so you can snack when you have no time to cook

I live off of brown rice, steamed and raw veggies, fish, slices of turkey and chicken breast, nuts, fruit. I eat one slice of Kamut bread with a Tablespoon of Peanut butter for breakfast. I spend about $5/day on my food, sometimes less.

If you have no cash to join a gym, walk everywhere. Spend a few dollars on some dumbells and an exercise tape and use them religiously. I'm sure some of these fine folk around here will have good specific ideas for you in that area.

Look around on the body business section and you will find some great ideas.
    Good Luck, hon

My advice, from military experience is this....

First off control what you eat.
It sucks but set up a schedule of times to eat and stick to it. Be sure your last meal is atleast 2 hours before bed. Counting calories helps but it's not absolutely necessary. The main thing is the amount of calories you burn based on your intake. 1 MRE is about 2.5k calories and we eat 2 a day in the field sometimes.....but we burn it all off.
Try to ditch ALL fried foods......eat baked white meat....fish, chicken etc. Also, lay off of soda and.....mmmmmm beer, drink alot of natural juices and water. If you absolutely HAVE to snack do so with fruits and veggies.

Another thing that will help is to do alot of cardiovascular training....i.e. running, walking, cycling and my ex-wife used to do alot of yoga....ate like a fucking pig at times and never exceeded 119, she was around 5'7. If you need anymore info post again or shoot me an e-mail at [email protected]

    Best of luck!!!

Oh yeah, avoid carbohydrates unless you intend to do exercise....carbs are primarily for energy....if you don't burn 'em they'll burn you.

    Try this :
Eat only 1/2 of what you normally put on your plate and
    5 times a week

30 mins of low impact cardio- beg. zumba is a fun one that is Latin dance based and also has some bellydancing
in it. Or just go for a brisk walk or walk on a treadmill staying mostly near 3.0 miles an hour......

30 min combo of light hand weights and ab and butt excersises

try the 8 Minutes Dvd's- arms, abs and buns. Finish with 5-10 mins of stretching.

after 4 weeks of this up the cardio to 45 mins 3 out of the 5 times a week- add variety like maybe Step Areobics or kickboxing.

After you reach your target weight. Keep up the workouts for an hour 3/5 times a week. If you go more than 5 lbs over your target weight add 10 mins to each workout.

You can get great used dvd's, equipment etc on Ebay cheap. Or just walk for free !

    Good Luck.

a very good way to lose weight fast and still maintain muscle tone is to eat mainly protein (lean meats, cheese, beans)...and avoid too many carbs. and exercise, exercise exercise!!! trust me, low carb diets work quick.

LOW CARB is the way to go. Exercise is crucial for dropping lbs fast.
Invest in a program called the The Firm.

Good morning eyezzz, at least it is morning where I am,

Several folks have given you some really good advice and I hope it helps you. I know how hard it is to lose weight and the best I can tell you is that it is in your hands. If you fall off the wagon one day don't give up. Climb back up there and eventually you will reach your goal.

Hang in there kid and let us know how you are doing.

Lots of people have yahoo around here please talk to any of us!

Men aren't all dumb. I like a great many of them genuinely. Attitude attracts certain people-positive actions and words reap positive rewards. Your motivation to lose weight is there. Pursue it, regardless of your reasons. If it's something that will benefit you in the long run, there is no reason too dumb that you shouldn't act on it.

I was about 50 pounds overweight when I started dancing. I did well when I watched my posture and smiled a lot. All of that weight was dropped because of all the physical activity I got dancing. Tons of cardio if you really work it! Really, your posture is a big deal. Even makes you walk and dance more gracefully!

BBW is a rage that never dies out. Don't forget that either! Assess yourself. I bet you've got tons of reasons to be confident! Go with your adrenaline.

    Danielle,

Juliette is right on. Be proud of your positives instead of dwelling on your negatives. Work on losing the weight. The self-confidence will soon follow.

Right out of college I was heavy (almost 200 lbs) and went on Weight Watchers. it really worked!

Just curious....why do you want to be a dancer? I'm just asking this because (and correct me if I'm wrong) you seem to have a weak self-image. You seem to put a lot of concern into what other people think about your looks. You really have to have tough skin to be a dancer. Guys will be complete jerkoffs and tell you more than you're too fat. You have to be able to brush it off.

i guess the reason i want to be a dancer is because when i was in middle school i was made fun of every day for being fat and went home crying every day as i look bacxk i wasnt that big i was only a szie 12 wow i wish i still waalso i was rejected by my family and em the black duck of the family so i guess i have this thing about wanting to belong and the need to feel wanted.i have a great b/f but somtimes i dont feel waned by him and that hes emabressed of me because of how i look i have seen his ex's and they are cute as hell and skinny and well im fat so i guess if i become skinny i will feel better about who i am and the things a i can acheive.

EEEESH mama, I hate to tell you, but dancing will rarely give you feelings of acceptance. It's a competitive industry, people fighting each other constantly for outfits, music, and even moves. Very mean girls can make you cry. Stripping will make you feel isolated, even if you are a top girl.

Before coming into this industry, it would be wise to assess your self-esteem, your limits, and your resolve. If you come into this thinking it will give you the confidence you never had, you are more likely to hurt worse that you have in a while. And that's for ANY girl in ANY shape.

my confidence actually increased greatly when i started dancing. it IS very competitive, but if you go about everything in a professional way and keep your head on straight, you come out stronger.

wanting to lose weight for yourself is the only way to go sweetie. dont do it because some guy put you down. guys put down thin girls all the time. it has nothing to do with weight, it has to do with the guys own insecurities.

You are young, Danielle....you need to find value in yourself for everything you are, not jsut your looks. You should never feel like you embarrass your boyfriend because of your looks. You should feel proud of who you are and accept yourself before you look to other people to do so.
