Default Car vadalism while at work?

I guess this goes out to everyone, but I am wondering how many of you girls have ever had their car vandalized while at work?

I just had it happen tonight On a Sunday!!

I had just had my car handwashed a couple of days ago, so it is looking nice. I put my club on my wheel, but I was in such a hurry that I didn't open my glove compartment or my center compartment. I always do that to show I have nothing really worth taking. I had a slight afterthought as I walked away from my car. I thought that just once, it wouldn't matter.

Guess what? It mattered :-/ They even took my car tools and my car emergency kit and language tapes! Launguage tapes ??? Who the hell in the valley of Los Angeles needs to learn how to speak frickn' Spanish??!!

    They were born speaking it!!!

I did all the right things; reporting it et. My husband will fix my window and odometer tomorrow. They even took my lighted vanity mirror. Now that pisses me off

Anybody go through something like this? Is there any way to know if it is you that was targeted or just a random thing?

I also had a tote with a bunch of headshots, postcards and business cards with my real name, phone # and email address for acting purposes. I guess if I hear from anyone, I will know whether I was targeted or not.

    Not so cheerful,

A long time ago I attached suction cups to the hands and feet of my biggest garfield stuffed animal and stuck it on the inside of my car window. It wasn't the regular sized garfield, but a much bigger one - about 50% bigger.

At the time, my car was a total wreck with doors the wouldn't open or ones that wouldn't lock. Not only that, but the whole thing was rusted and dented like a demolition derby car. Basically, nobody ever bothered to break into it. I even left the doors unlocked or the windows rolled down sometimes.

Anyway, one day I woke up and noticed that garfield was missing from the car window. The suction cups were still there, but he was gone. I thought, "oh well, not a big deal", but then I noticed the thief smashed in one of the windows (on the unlocked side) to get in. Also taken were a box of tampons, a bunch of KFC handi wipes, and the furry seat cover on the passenger side, LOL.

I don't think you were targeted. Some of these people that break into cars do it for the thrill it seems, not the money. If you were targeted, they would have slashed all four of your tires or broken all of your windows.

Thankfully I've never had my car vandalized, but I have had the valet take it for a ride. This club I used to work at had so many dancers that it was a requirement to valet your car on friday and saturday. Well some of the girls would set their trip counters to 0 when they parked. When they got back in the car it would have miles on it, from being driven. Other girls I knew found ashes from someone smoking in their cars. And some girls even found their cars scratched. The valet was really terrible. I started showing up at the club an hour early because there were 3 spots you could park in and not have to valet.

I'm sorry to hear that you ladies have to put up with crap like that. It doesn't seem like too much to ask for that you have a safe place outside the club for your vehicles while you are inside making a living.

Not to mention the patrons cannot feel great about leaving their vehicles outside while the spend money if the parking lot is that unsafe.

I hope they catch the jerks some time Corey and even if they don't people like that always get theirs in the end anyway. Be comforted in the thought that you work for a living and they are just common thieves and at some point they will get caught and land in jail where they belong.

    Hey Kaiya,

I love the way you market the Lusty Lady!!

You know, living in SF, I remember not getting my car washed for weeks and nobody cared. ( Well, in the Marina, where I lived some snooty Rolls Royce and Jaguar drivers would give me dirty looks ).

I am sort of living in the Marina all over again, here in LA. I bought a nicer car before moving down here. I actually didn't wash it for a while. Even people on the freeways were giving me dirty looks

Maybe I should not wash it as long as I am working there. You know I had money in my car! Not a lot, just 3.00 in quarters for the meters. They didn't even take it.

I almost wish that I had my old beater of an Acura back :-/

I can't believe they took your Garfield! I almost put a big Panda in back window. I am not so glad I didn't. Your tampons??! How much could they get for those on the street ??? That is worse than Spanish language tapes in LA

    Cheers,

YES this is happened to me!!!

I get out from a long shift to find that my passenger side window was busted and my CD's were stolen! I had very rare stuff too-imports and bootlegs. Over two thousand dollars worth! The lot guy wasn't even suspended or fired. I called around to pawn shops and collectors stores, but the people kept them.

    Damn those thieves!!!!!

    Hey Juliette,

My heart goes out to you. I didn't have anything of that value taken, but it is such a feeling of violation to drive home at midnight, and 1/2 hour on the freeway, surrounded by broken glass and broken faith in the human spirit. I only have liability insurance, so my husband took care of my window today. It was really not his place to do that.

Btw, I totally got your last name and knew where you got it from. There is a french play about the Marquis de Sade and another French political rebel who were imprisoned and wrote a play using the inmates and patients as actors. The film,"Quills" is sort of based on this play. I wish I can remember the name of it. Charlotte Corday, a narcoleptic prostitute was a main character in this play as well.

Maybe you know what I am talking about?

    Cheers,

I know what you mean about the feeling of violation. My apartment was broken in to once and my business once. As dumb as it sounds you get this feeling of "Hey that was MY STUFF damn it you can't take it!" And the thing that is why they call them theives, cause they do take your stuff. But it really pisses you off, excuse my french.

BTW, QUILLS was a really good movie, Jeffrey Rush was great in that.

I had to laugh at the thought of a narcoleptic prostitute. Asleep on the job has a whole new meaning for her, right?

Corey, yes! That's the very same Marquis-psycho, wasn't he? I think the play you are speaking of is called Marat/Sade....don't quote me on it.

And yes.....I feel you too. You just wish there was hope that people were for the most part GOOD For Shame!

You are right!! It finally came to me right before I read your post. Marat/Sade is the correct name. I think the political rebel was Jean-Paul Marat.

The dealer we went to had a client who's BMW was assaulted last night in his driveway. He did have an alarm. They actually broke through his dashboard and messed with all of the basic technical gadgets. He has to wait four days for his window. Poor guy!

I am suppose to go into work tonight and I haven't even showered yet. I am so not in the mood.

Get this girls. I had an 86 Camaro, decent condition, alarm, new cd player, 12" speakers, amp, woofer, about 100 cds. Someone chiseled at the lock somehow, did not remove the lock, opened the hood, took the mass air flow sensor and disarmed the alarm. They took nothing else. Lucky me, but you would think if someone had this much intelligence they would be aiming for something higher than a $50 car part. Unfortunately, I never could get the lock fixed because they cut something that holds it, it eventually rusted because I had no way of sealing it. With mine and everyone elses experience, it just goes to show there are some sad, disturbed people out there. I can't get over the tampons and KFC wipes. Maybe it was a woman and she had to clean that thing up with something and change her tampon. If she's breaking into old cars to steal Garfield and those sort of items, she must have trouble getting some O.B.'s and summer's eve wipes.

    Default Great detective work Breanna

Breanna, I would definitely hire you as a private investigator any day. You know, up until today, I had no idea why anybody would take the tampons, KFC wipes and remove just ONE furry seat cover.

Corey: Things are going well at the Lusty Lady. Everybody is working hard to make the co-op work and as of June, the club finally turned profitable.

I have an Escalade and Im surprised it hasnt been messed with so far. I usually park out by a light pole which maybe helps. The township police also cruise the parking lot...good for the safety of my car but not so good when Ive had an extra brewski or two

92' Mustang, parked right out the back door of the club with employee's coming in and out all night to drink and what not. I didn't work that night but Sasha did and it happened in a matter of like 15 minute's. The Dj was outside just before and after it happened. The people that hit me knew the car as I had about $1200 worth of stereo gear in the hatch and that was all they took. I now have a 92' Toyota 4runner with over $3500 worth of stereo equipment in it ( don't ask, I bought it that way ) and let them try to hit me again. My Dj's tool box got stole out of his truck and someone stole a set of new tire's out of a dancer's van one night. Oddly enough every incident was almost definitely an inside job. Although impossible to prove circumstance's surrounding the event's deemed it inevitable. They somehow stopped after I took over ownership of the club.

I got a call from a guy who said he found my tote bag w/ all of my headshots, business cards and such, (that is how he got my phone#), my car emergency kit with my cables and my language tapes in a garbage can near his apartment. He said that the red bad attracted his attention because it looked so new and the fact that all kinds of professional photos were in it, he couldn't see how someone could just through that stuff away for no reason. He figured I had been robbed.

It was about two miles from the club. He sounds OK, but I would rather have him meet me in a public place w/ my stuff.

They kept my car tools in the leather case. I guess that was worth drug money :-/

To Crazy Bob: An inside job? You know it has crossed my mind, but the one dancer I had a problem with was fired long ago. Her voice is distinctive and loud. I would have known if she was around, even if she wasn't in the same room with me. Trust me!

Good luck and watch your cars,

    Corey,

Congrats on getting at least part of your stuff back. And YES by all means meet the guy somewhere safe or maybe even have one of the bouncers with you or something. Think about it. They have seen your pics and they know you are a hot chick and a dancer etc. The guy who called could even be the same guy who took the stuff in the first place. Be careful.

This was more funny than serious but it wasn't funny when I walked outside and found my window busted. One day when I was bartending on dayshift a group of drunk guys left the club wasted. Well, it was a group of 3 mexican guys who didn't speak much english. They got so trashed that they confused my red car for their red car. Wouldn't you know their damn Toyota key just would not fit into my Nissan? They got so frustrated they busted the damn window and then realized they had the wrong car, but they were so drunk and worn out by then that they just fell out in the parking lot. They laid out there for awhile. We called the police and they got them for it. And the next day their family members came up there and paid me for my window.

I think anyone who has worked in this business for awhile has had their cars messed with at some point or another.
I've had someone break the lock on my passenger side door to get into my car, only to realize that the only thing to steal in was an very old sweatshirt. The lot guy at that club never got a tip from me ever again after that incident.
I also worked at another club where night shift girls had to valet their cars. Nothing ever went missing and my odometer was never run up, but I would always find my CDs and papers in my glovebox had been rearranged after I got it back, which creeped me out.

After having stuff like this happen, I got a second car just for work, a very plain looking economy car which I rarely wash, and I never leave anything in for people to even think about taking...unless they want empty soda cans for some reason.

    xmarx,

He doesn't know I am a dancer, but he very well could be one of the people who robbed me and trashed my car. I didn't realize until yesterday that they stole one of my speakers as well.

I will take all precautions. If he is indeed innocent, all he knows about me is that I am an actor who studies languages that just moved here from SF and that I live in W. LA.

    Thanks for your concern,

    Nawty,

My car was filthy!! The tools and the emergency car kit were in my car for a reason and they were covered up. My tote bag was there for a reason as well, since in LA, you never know who you might meet in casting.

Luckily, I had my leather briefcase at home. Another reason I kept the canvas tote bag in the car. Usually, I leave my compartments in my car open, to show that I have nothing of value. This was the only time I didn't.

I used to park in front of the club. But recently, there is this new rule that was made that they girls had to park in the back so that patrons could park in front.

I would never drive a BMW or a Mercedes to work or anything high end like that. I have a Saturn, that is not that flashy. I guess I will wash it less often.

I go back to work tomorrow. I guess I will find out if it was an inside job or not.

    Cheers,

Kaiya, what a coincedence you said that. My best friend said I would make a good private investigator. She was laughing and said if I have kids, they're not getting away with anything.

Corey, If it was me, I would treat this guy like a suspect unless proven otherwise. Most people don't look through anything in the garbage, regardless of the bag's condition. (Unless it was Louie Vioutton. Especially those new white ones with the different color letters.) If he's innocent and it's not convenient for him to meet you in a public place, ask him if there's a club house or office at his apartment complex he leave the bag for you to pick up. If that's not possible, get a male friend to go with you to pick it up.

If you think you've experienced the anguish of idiot criminals breaking into your car parked outside of work, then this story will take the cake. A must read story from West Virginia:

    Thieves steal Powerball winner's $545,000

$245,000 in cash! And after breaking into the guys car, they left it behind a trash bin. The guy got his money back, but he has to be absolutely mortified now, esspecially considering where the incident took place.

245k must be nothing to that guy considering he just won $113 million...sheesh, must be a nice feeling carrying that kind of money around..

Anyways, my car got broken into before and the worst part of it is getting all the shit fixed. the front panel of my car was pretty damaged from the guy trying to get my deck. Well I also have only liabilty insurance and a nice car and i recieved so much shit from the auto-repair guys for only having liability insurance. One of the guys was like "What? you only have liabilty on that?...that car is worth $xxk, how can you drive around like that?" or "why dont you have insurance on that?"...i hated that, why should i explain everything to them?...i just dont think its worth paying over $3000/year for insurance and then having to still pay $1000 deductible if something happens...
