A few weeks ago I competed in the Wiggles of the West contest in Reno. There were 2 men and about 6 women. Was in the headliners division (the old salts). Didn't place among the winners.
Last week I competed in the Power Exchanges' amateur strip contest . There were three men and about 8 women.
While I was there I ran into a fellow dancer . I had no idea that she attended these functions. I wonder what the reaction will be when the rest of the class hears I moonlite as a stripper. It'll be interesting but I really don't mind.
Anyway , I didn't place with any of the winners there either. So what did I gain from all this? Well for one thing- exposure. I might get posted at one of their websites but more importantly you connect with other people in that field . At the wiggles I was approached by one of the contestants and invited to another competition down in Holister. At the P.E. another contestant asked me to teach her some of my moves. She was a professional and also didn't place.
Second , the outcome of the contest relies heavily on the personality of the judges. At the P.E. the only male who placed- was also an employee of the club. So how you do is closely tied to the tastes of the judges.
I can't deny that I was disappointed in each contest but seeing who I was going against shines a different perspective. At wiggles there were seasoned long time professionals that didn't place either. The fact that someone invited me to another contest implies I still have the potential to succeed elsewhere.
I really didn't expect to succeed at the P.E. going against the women but the fact that one asked me to teach them something testifies that there are somethings I can do that even they can't. It was a significant compliment. There were some beautiful girls that didn't place as well.
All in all I'd have to say it was a worthwhile experience. Back to pounding the pavement and coughing up more entertaining performances.![]()
