    Default Question: pole spins

Okay ladies, put on your thinking caps. I saw this dancer descending a pole while corkscrewing downwards.
Now I know you could climb down in a corkscrew or if you had both hands together you could twist your way down. However, she did not reposition her hands once she started her spiral.
You could also start a spin at the top and descend with the momentum you've built up but no, she started slowly then increased the rotation on the way down.
So how did she do it? Was it the positioning of her hands or the angle of her hip to the pole? ???

I don't know the answer but I want to buy a pole so I can learn how to do these kind of tricks at home. I have a post in Market Place asking which pole to buy.

Hips and legs working the pole. Have you ever done a spiral while your hands stayed stationary ? Not an easy move. Also the hands have to move to go from the top of the pole to spiral downwards to the floor. Other wise you hang straight when the move is finished.
Was she on a spinning pole ? Makes it look simple, it is not.

in my club they have rotating poles.. and ill assume your talking about speed right?

well the closer your body is to the pole the faster itll spin.. if you are climbing it will go slowly.. because you have space between you and the pole.. now i dont climb the pole myself.. *im still learning* but the girls at my club were nice enough to share this info with me when i first started..

they didnt want me trying a spin and getting launched off i guess.. lol

on a side note.. some dancers.. if they are going to fast.. will stick out a limb.. this will slow down the speed rapidly.. or two

I forgot to mention, it was a stationary pole. Yes , she was spinning as she descended. No, I did not notice any change in her hand positions. Her body position was stationary for the duration of the descent.

    Well then Dreamer ask her,
it would seem like on the way down she was coming in closer to the pole. As that will bring you to a tight grip and more control. If not all of her body, one or two parts where coming in closer/tighter, and while moving alot of people can't actually see what is happening. That is all i know how to do. Just come in closer as i move down, until i am on the floor, or at a standing position, which is not as flattering.

Pamela, the problem is she is down in North Hollywood Deja Vu. I once was there, she was not. She may have gone into adult videos by now. I don't think anyone at the club would disclose such information.

Oh well, at least it sounded like a very hot hard move! Soooo many pole playing moves can be done. It sounded like that may have been what she was doing, but without seeing it, tough to tell. And hell, it's so cool what one can do on a pole! I love it.

That's pretty hard to do on a stationary pole - can give you 'pole burn' on the skin. Are you sure it was stationary? We have a spinning pole at my club and the customers can't tell it spins because you can't see it - it's brass and under the lights the spinning just does not show. We can do some pretty damn cool stuff on that pole, and some of the girls get pretty wild with it. Customers are always asking how we do all those crazy fast spins and I tell them straight up the pole spins so all we have to do is get the momentum. One easy way to do that is to start out with your body further out and pull in tighter to the pole (the way figure skaters can manipulate spin speed by spreading out and pulling in tighter) - and you can slide down while doing it.

Bridgette, yes it was a stationary pole. Even if it wasn't how could you start at a slower speed then gain rotationary spin while coming down without repositioning your hands. He body position was relatively stationary all the way down.
Oh well, I guess it'll just be one of those mysteries left to be reduplicated by someone. I was just wondering if anybody here knew.

You don't have to move your hands to pull your body a little closer in and gain speed. I do it alot. Onlookers won't see the subtle change in position. Furthermore, if you were that shocked by the move, I'd venture a guess you wouldn't have possibly been able to notice all the subtle changes in her bodily position.

Not to be annoying, but how do you know the pole was stationary?

You can hang upside down in a semi-splayed position, rotate, pull your body in a bit closer to the pole and gain speed, all without ever moving your hands on the pole. If she started out slower and picked up speed without using the floor or ceiling to push with hands or feet, she pulled her body in tighter. No doubt about it - it's the only way to do that without using something else to push off with. Starting at the top and gaining speed on the way down, she would have had to start the spin holding her body out a bit more, then pulled in tighter - wouldn't need to move the hands to do that.

The pole at my club is too short to climb on, but I do a spin where I start out standing next to it with my right side to the pole, grab with right hand, kick left leg out and sort of jump out then bring my body in toward the pole, making my body swing out feet first toward the crowd a bit then coming in toward the pole and sliding down into a sort of half-sitting position and sliding onto the floor. I can get quite a bit of speed like this, enough to make my very long hair fly straight out and some people get a little scared I'm going to fly off feet first and hit them LOL! I never move my hands throughout this - it's all in body position and momentum.

Ya know Bridgette, I saw this pole in a Playboy video that looked like it had a twisted surface like a long screw. It wasn't the one I saw in the considered video I saw however. You probably could have done a spin on that one. I'm still working on a smooth surfaced one however.

Corkscrew? I'm not sure of the dancer's body positioning, but if you get your body positioned correctly where your back is to the pole, arms above you, you can kick out a bit to get the pole around the lower back (while arching the back) then with your legs wrapped around the pole loosely. Remember arms are up and your body is backwards to the pole. Then you can spiral all the way down the pole that way. Hard to know without seeing it and hard to describe without demonstrating it!

Justagirl, usually when you kick out from the pole your body just comes right back to it. You could get a limited amount of spin but certainly not more than one. Mostly you just slide down.

Spinning down on a pole requires a good amount of speed. Usually your legs have to be out than in to the pole. At least one, very impressive!
I can come down a pole slow, but that requires hands moving down with me. ONe at a time "step". Or a loose grip, thats how i fall. Lol.
If you want to really swing or spin around a stationary pole you have to use the lower body, legs....To get a spin.
Otherwise you do just slide down the pole. I know what justagirl is talking about it is do-able, but at a fairly slow move, and your hands have to have a fairly loose grip while the legs are squeezing for control to come on down.

Speed is what makes a good spin however with people not looking at your hands. They see hair, and legs mainly with an arched back.

I would have to kick my legs out, actually the whole body, ok - I would have my hands in position, kick out a bit to get the whole body in that position, once in that position - I can spiral down the pole that way. It's more of an upper-body strength thing to get you moving because you have to lift your whole body up and around and the same time.

I bought "Pole Works" the video.. It was not as impressive as I'd hoped but I did pick up a couple cute moves. I certainly wish I had it when I first started!

I wish I could see the move talked about earlier, sounds interesting.

First of all ,pole spins starting at the top from a dead stop can only be accomplished on a stationary pole. Try it on a spinning pole and you'll flap like a fish and your body falls straight into the pole.
Jane ,forget the instructional videos (at least the ones I've seen so far) this is an advanced technique. I kind of follow justagirls principle. Starting on the right side like Fawnia's crotch spin only my right hand grips with thumb up. I shoot my legs straight up like a pole vaulter would. At the apex I swing my legs down and out on a diagonal as if on a swing. My legs will follow a large "J" pattern passing to the right side of the pole. At the crook of the "J" the legs start the clockwise spiral around the pole and I'd have to release my left hand. As my body swings to the left side of the pole I regrasp the pole behind me as it nears me. All that is left is to curl my legs into a back spiral the rest the way to the ground.
The technique in question is on Deja Vu's Exotic Pole Dancers video performed by Jezebelle Bond.

i don't know about that one, but I tried a spinning pole for the first time where I am working now--it was slow at the beginning of a day shift so I was showing the newbies how to do tricks---Jesus, you can do some amazing sh*t with a spinning pole!!

There are soooo many cool looking pole spins. And not to argue Dreamer...but you can do the top spin on a spinning pole. It is just harder.
I pretty much taught myself pole tricks. I can't think of one yet that is not do-able. Just look at kids on monkey bars, and swinging around a straight pole....it's cool.
Some climb up to the top like a monkey, hang there and show off. I saw one kid spin down, slowly. I was in awe.

You can do these tricks, but it is hard to explain in writing.
    One really has to see.

For me, my arms and hands only hold. My body and legs are doing the work always. The biggest part of my body has to get the movement going or stopping. That is how i can do many pole spins. Top to bottom as well from a complete stand out. Tough, lots of practice, but very do-able! I love them.
