Default Vegas, what hotel do you favor?

Ok never been and want to plan my first trip, 3-5 days. Sad I know, lol, being 24 and all.

    Any recommendations?

My friend said Excalibur, what do y'all think? He spends a lot of money there so his room is free so that's probably why he prefers it. :-/

Mgm and Ceasars seem like the classic choices to me but my friend said they're dinosaurs and not up to date compared to the other hotels.

Also what were your favorite hot spots or can't misses?

www.cheapovegas.com gives fair reviews on las vegas hotels....

I think the best place is the venetian, but it is pricey. They have canals there, just like in Venice, where you can ride gondalas. You should also see the fountain show at Mandalay Bay (i think it is there).

The Excalibur is a real cheesy hotel. I usually go every December and May to Vegas. My favorite hotel to stay at is The Hard Rock. They have the best nightclub in Vegas....Baby's. The Hard Rock has a young crowd. I would also recomend Paris. My one friend stayed at the Palms....he said it was very nice. Have fun in Vegas. My favorite place to gamble is the Rio. Check out Ceaser's....you will enjoy the statues!!!!

My parents and some other family members live in Vegas so I visit frequently.

I just got married in the gazebo gardens of the Flamingo. It is very nostalgic and you can get a suite at a very good price. I have also stayed at many other places and I really like the Hard Rock as well.

As far as clubs go, I like the V Bar at the Venetian to chill before going out. Rain at the Palms is great, Ghost Bar at the Palms is really beautiful and it rocks. Although, these clubs aren't totally the newest and the most modern; I have had a lot of fun at Ra and Studio 54.

Out of the way is Whiskey Sky at Hidden Valley Ranch. They were in the midst of filming Ocean's 12 w/ Clooney and Pitt when I was there. It has the most amazing stairway and lounge. Talk about extasy beds!!

Have fun!! I am going over 4th of July weekend.

    Cheers,

Excalibur is indeed cheesy. Or maybe kitschy.

Some very nice hotels: Venetian, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay.

I stayed at New York, New York and didn't like it. Stayed at Treasure Island, liked it. It's more of a midrange place. I think that MGM would also be a midrange hotel. Paris and Desert-something look quite nice.

Wow, very helpful, thanks you guys.

Lol, he's gonna laugh when I tell him his favorite hotel is cheesy, lol.

My friend brought a good point up though he said that you really don't spend much time in the room at all, so it's really the casino's and extra activities/ attractions in the hotel that count. Hadn't thought of that.

I did see the Venetian on the Michael Jackson special and it looked beautiful.

What about the hotels Luxor and the Pyramid?

It depends why you're going. Whenever I fly to Vegas to work I always stay at the Somerset House. It's a very inexpensive motel, safe, and close to most of the strip clubs. http://www.somerset-house.com/
If your trip is more pleasure-oriented, you might be better off staying at a casino hotel.

I agree; the Excalibur is cheesy. It was built in 1990 and is geared to families. It's a bit out of the way IMO. I'm sure your friend likes it because he gets free rooms--nothing wrong with that, but I think it's a bit worn and old.

For your first visit, you might want to try a nicer place.

For casinos/hotels with young, fun crowds:

    Hard Rock (off-strip)
    Palms (off-strip)
Mandalay Bay (south strip, nice hotel, young crowd)
    Mirage (mid-strip, great location)
    Bellagio (mid-strip, great location)
Venetian (mid-strip, great location, very nice rooms)
    Paris (mid-strip, great location)

Bellagio is the most upscale hotel in LV. Venetian is next IMO. If you want to hang with the young, hip crowds, then Hard Rock, Mandalay Bay and the Palms are probably your best bets.

There are many, many hot spots, and they change almost monthly.

RA (luxor) and Studio 54 (MGM) seem to be favorites. During my last visit to LV in May I heard a lot about Tabu, a lounge/nightclub at MGM that recently opened. The Beach is another popular spot. It is not associated with any hotel/casino.

Check out www.vegas.com. Also check the freebie magazines when you get to town. You'll find them at the airport and usually in your hotel room, and they are a great source of information

I'm sure you will have a blast when you go. There is so much to do; you will never fit it into a few days.

I like the Mirage.. they have an awesome pool, plus I LOVE the white tigers and dolphins they have there (as well as the rest of the animals they had in their mini zoo). Also, it seemed a lot of the hotels had this odd odor to them (I have no idea what it was or why) but I noticed the Mirage adds this tropical scent through their air ventalation that I loved.

The Mirage however is not a great one for clubbing if that's what you're looking for... I went everywhere else for that... lol

brandi-i agree with your friend i am next to never in my room, last time i stayed at ceaser i was comped up to amazing rain man type suite and i think i was in there for all of 5 hours in 3 days.

imo bellagio and ceaser's have the best location on the strip. if you want to go cheap the flamin-ingo across the street is ancient but decent. all 3 have nice pools which ive been told is important to the ladies.

drais (basement of the barbary coast) is an awesome afterhours club.
baby's, ra and rum jungle are all cool...haven't been to skin or ghost bar but hear good things
i thought coyote ugly and curve were pretty dull...
skip the roller coaster at NY but check out the ride atop the stratosphere...
i'd recomend the sky dive tunnel, either of the cirque du soleil shows and most of the restaurants are awesome too many to list...hope i helped

Only in Las Vegas would something built in 1990 be "a bit worn and old". When's the implosion?

If money isn't an issue, I would go with either the Hard Rock, Rio, Mandalay Bay, MGM or the Palms, as these hotels cater to a younger clientele. The high roller suites at the Palms in fact have stripper poles in them. Check out the first picture on this page.

If you don't want to spend as much, some of those dinosaur hotels might be what you're looking for. I'd recommend the Stardust, Sahara, Stratosphere, Harrah's, Riviera, Flamingo, or about any hotel downtown. A bus runs from Fremont Street to Mandalay Bay for $2 a ride 24 hours a day.

And yes, if you aren't up for prima donna brats running all over the place, I'd avoid the "cheesy" Excalibur, and the even cheesier Circus Circus.

my fav is the new Alladin,,, been twice and I think it has the best room for the money,,, and ,,,, it has the large mall within it (desert passage)........ just my two cents,,, the big thing is make sure to get a deal,,, the alladin will say its 190 per night if u just call and get a room. But I paid 500 ea. for two of us to fly from boston to vegas and back, and 4 nights stay at the alladin from a travel agent even included some free buffets and the hotel transfers etc.,,

I've stayed at the Luxor, about $60-80/room. Nice, this is the one that's the Egyptian themed one shaped like a Pyramid. The Venetian was gorgeous, but I payed about $200 for a room. Worth it, if you have a special occaison!

The Venetian, Mandalay Bay and the Bellagio. In all honesty though even though the bay is less luxurious by rating standards that is where I enjoyed myself the most. And the Venetian has the hardest, roughest, bath towels I have ever used in my life.
Not that its a big deal but for $500+ for our suite my towel felt like the towel you would get from one of those really cheap joints to put on the floor in front of the tub. And, the room was not all it was cracked up to be overfluffed, overfurnished and too damn busy with wanna be italian and venetian decor and patterns.
The Bellagio and Mandalay Bay were nice with soft towels and bathrooms made for fooling around! Very spacious and big jacuzzi tubs and huge stand up showers. I guess I just wasn't truly impressed with the Venetian b/c from what I heard and what I saw didn't quite match. The say its the shit, I say shhhhhhhhhh..............and the remaining letters just aren't there for me.
But, I will honestly say the staff at all three of these places from the valets to the housekeeping staff are all as fabulous as can be and they do take care of every single need you have from finding a place open at 3am that sells flatirons for your hair to finding a place that sells your favorite nailpolish brand.

    I agree that Excalibur sucks!

The Aladdin is a really nice place. Gorgeous rooms for the money.

I like to gamble at Luxor.

i forget which casino it is that has flowers coming from the ceiling..the Bellagio I think.

I went to Vegas and had a talk with the cab driver who said girls make 2,3000 a night...and fly in from as far as the east coast just to work. Is this true for anyone? I visited a strip club and just didnt see it.... (didnt work)
The club was moderatley packed with only one stage and so so girls.
