a few years ago, most glamour magazines depended on independent photographers to provide the content. This meant that girls modeled for independent photographers, and when the 'set' was completed the photographers passed it around to magazine editors in hopes of a sale (at which point the photographer paid the model).
However, in the last couple of years virtually all of the glamour magazines have started doing what Playboy has done for decades - i.e. installing photo studios on premisis and adding photographers on staff. In this way the magazines, who also have websites and video marketing, can directly engage a model to come to their studio to shoot several photo layouts and videos over a period of a couple of days. This setup obviously provides the magazine with lower costs and more material than if they just bought one photo layout from one independent photographer. This setup also provides the magazine with a higher degree of 'exclusivity' i.e. there is no risk that any of the layouts or videos they shot themselves will wind up appearing in a competing magazine or on a competing website or in a competing video offering.
Be aware that girls who pose for layouts with independent photographers these days are potentially working against their own interests - because the existence of independent material available for purchase by competing magazines removes the 'exclusivity' and makes all magazines less likely to directly employ that model.
