That's nothing more than harassment. Whether it's making the customers stay at least 6 ft. away, or something stupid like that, it seems like most cities are invovled is some type of organized harassment of clubs and dancers. Make no mistake Shan, their real goal is to put you out of a job.

Isn't there only one club in that county anyway? My question would be what reason was this little statute passed? I mean is the county going to make money out of this or is this just some more bullshit? I don't know about you, but my answer to anything involving licensing, fingerprinting, long term records and all is to work elsewhere where all that mess is not required.

Both Las Vegas and San Diego require licensing/fingerprinting. If you don't feel comfortable with it, work elsewhere.

Yes some clubs do it. We have a new one in the area, wel about a year old now, and some lady who was the house mom told me they sent the dancers to the PD to get fingerprinted! Believe it or not. Also with a dl/id number on it as well.

Yes, this is fairly common in cities/counties which have enacted anti-dance club ordinances and/or dancer's licensing requirements. The fingerprinting is usually accompanied by a check for outstanding warrants, and a check of the person's criminal record with particular attention to charges involving prostitution, theft, drugs etc. This is just the latest step in the "criminalization" of exotic dancing. Laws like these are based on a "presumption" that dancers are prone to illegal behavior in regard to sex, drugs and money, such that dancers must now 'prove their innocence' in order to be allowed to work!

In a big city like SF or LV, it's not really a big deal. In a small town or county with only one strip club, I would be very cautious about going down on public record as a stripper.

I agree that this is just some form of legal harassment for dancers, but do consider that a lot of people with "normal" jobs have to undergo mandatory fingerprinting (not to mention other intrusions of privacy like "on the spot" drug screens) as part of an employment background check. I myself had to do this, not once but THREE times just to get my current job. And just look at what they make a kid in high school undergo now just to play sports or be in the band, so its not just a dancer concern. And until people stand up against these sort of outrages, they're just going to get worse.

I'm sad to say with our society increasing resembling a police state, it'll be a matter of time before we ALL have to give our fingerprints, have our retinas scanned, and do God knows what just to do everyday activities. That scary stuff you saw in "Minority Report" will be a reality before too long.

I can understand the propriety of getting , licensed and bonded for a number of occupations, such as bank teller/guard, armored car driver, civilian FBI employee etc etc. If you are in a business dealing with large sums of money or sensitive data, its understandable. However, I personally fail to see how fingerprinting dancers is justifiable. The other occupations deal with material that needs that extra level of protection to prevent any inside crimes. For dancers, it seems that they are translating a moral code (which is subject to interpretation) into legal documentation. The presumption that dancers NEED to be fingerprinted and identified galls me.

It's wholly possible that this might eventually be found unconstitutional. However, I doubt that the ACLU or other advocacy groups will spend any amount of time on it. Again, it's another example how dancer stereotypes invade popular thinking and influence behavior.

John, you're 100% correct about the ACLU and other advocacy groups not wasting any more resources on exotic dancing for a while. They effectively got their a$$ handed to them in the US Supreme Court's Erie vs Paps decision, which fundamentally established that exotic dancing is NOT entitled to the same first amendment protections as "legitimate stage performances", video, film etc. This case also affirmed previous cases which gave states and localities the authority to regulate the time, place and manner in which exotic dancing can be conducted. Perhaps most important in light of this thread, this case also affirmed the right of states and localities to regulate exotic dancing in the public interest, to the point of banning nudity and customer contact altogether if they so desire. It is under this last section that the no-contact, fingerprinting and licensing laws get their authority.

In regard to the ACLU et al, once the highest court in the land decides against you, the only rational alternative open is to wait until a few supreme court judges retire and are hopefully replaced by new judges whose viewpoint is different.

Well, we girls in Northern NV had to get fingerprinted and have a background check done as well. But then, so does everyone else in the county involved in gaming, cab driving or even cocktail waitressing.

Is dancing the only profession that this is being applied to where you are? My understanding in my state is that all a background check would find is that we'd been issued a Sheriff's card which could be for a number of reasons as stated above. This seemed to hold true when I helped out in an HR department at one of my jobs in Seattle.

And residency for medicine or residency as in of a state to apply to school? I think you'll find that it is less of a big deal than you'd think.
