    Maya,

Watch a good dancer, and then be that dancer. It's not about you not being afraid, it's about you stepping out of the you that's afraid, and stepping into a stage character with a lot of presence.

What do you think about when doing table dances? Most people have something they can think about to help them click into that mode. I have this smile-and-run-my-fingers-through-my-hair thing that I do every time I go on stage that puts me in character.

Lena siaid it, mimic another good dancer. But not were people think you are following her lead.
Isn't it funny, i never felt comfortable on the floor, but on stage was the greatest!!

I would imaging it's like public speaking a bit.

So, since I cannot offer any advice on Stage Dancing, I'll tell you what I do before I speak in front of my peers and colleagues.

    I touch my toes.

I know it sounds silly, but stretching makes me calm a bit, and I've found it helps. Also, the more I do it (speak, not stretch), the more comfortable I feel. So it may just be a matter of time.

    Best of luck,

    Tyler.

itll be hard to mimic a good dancer if its your first time.. or been a while cause you mose certianly be stiff.. just try to mimic them and most defanitly relax and take it easy..... dont forget to stretch

Oh, don't necessarily mimic their moves, just mimic their attitude. Become the attitude! LOL

    One word: XANAX

Just kidding... I am new to dancing too, but I have been cocktailling at the club 2.5 months before I started dancing so I got a chance to watch, learn & remember everything. I also took bits & pieces of the best girls' dances & put them together into my own. So my first few times up there, I just psyched myself into believing I have done it a million times & that I actually know what the hell I am doing! It helped. Plus all the girls working got onto the stage at one point to tip me so it took time away from actually walking around/playing on the pole, etc, and it took my nerves away. I still don't really like being on stage but since we all have to do it, I just move/act reeaaallly slow, yet sensual, to help the time pass.

Shan was right about being stiff! I was sore for 3 days after my first day, plus I had bruises all over, even in random places like the underside of my wrist. I learned the hard way how important it is to stretch...

Try to cover as much of the stage as you can - standing in one spot jigging your heart out screams rookie, instead of thinking "dance dance dance" try a sexy strut with some dance moves incorporated in it, covering more stage and thereby giving you better presentation, strut to the beat, pause at each angle or corner of the stage to do a hip thingie or twirl, and dont please dont head STRAIGHT for the pole for the duration of your set - its an accent and a dance prop but not a security blanket although it sure feels like on hee hee!

Good luck you're gonna love it I LOVE THE STAGE!!! Its whats kept me dancing this long!

Never explain yourself to anyone, because the person who likes you doesn't need it and the person that dislikes you won't believe it.

On a side note, if you want to avoid sore muscles, it's better to "warm up" than to just stretch.

Stretching cold muscles can actually do more bad than good sometimes.

Try walking around a bit, or even a light jog if you have room. Light jumping jacks are an excellent way to warm up, but if your naked this might not be appropriate. Stand in one spot and lift your knees up to your chest, like marching in place.

If you get a little warm up before you do light stretching, it will vastly improve your blood flow and reduce your residual muscle pain.

Just my thoughts. Best of luck on the stage.

    Tyler.

I think this will pass in time. I remember when I started out my hands and feet would sweat. This of course made me even more nervous. The shoes I had were a silver metallic material on the inside which would make it worse. Ha-ha, the good ole days. How long have you been dancing? Good music will make you feel good and sexy, maybe that will help. I think in another weeek or 2 you'll be fine! Good Luck!

I forget that I'm dancing in a strip club. I get up on stage and rethink the atmosphere... I dance around in my room infront of my mirror all the time, so I put myself in a mental place just like that -- I think of them watching me dance in my room, and it creates sort-of a voyeristic fantasy that enables me to relax. Don't get me wrong, I still get a tad "nervous" before I get up, but I get comfortable up there very soon afterwards.
