    Default New York City Shopping

I have finally decided to take the plunge, and work at a " gown" club. I have to purchase some long dresses, and closed toed pumps. I have no idea where to shop for these things in Manhattan, and hope that someone can point me in the right direction. ???

I wish I could go shopping in NYC. They have all the great clothes stores.

My favorite brand is Ben Sherman, and they only have shops in NYC and Europe. I live in Seattle? Lame.

Good luck shopping, I'm sure you'll look great.

actually, there are a few places you can go, but I do a lot of shopping on 5th Ave, and i don't know of any stripper stores on 5th b/t 53rd & 59th - I mean, unless you plan on wearing a Prada or Hugo Boss dress to work!

for shoes, there is a place called Village Leather, in the West Village - On 6th Ave. , around 5th or 6th Street. It's on the W. side of the street and not only do they have over 100 different stripper shoes, but they also have closed toe platforms - you can also haggle with the owners (but don't tell them I told you this!). There are also a few places on 8th Street including a store full of short & long dresses. I think that the shop is somewhere between university place and 6th avenue, and is owned by a little Indian lady. DEFinately haggle with her, because she grossly overcharges. But if you make a stink she will give you what you want. I wouldn't reccomend getting your shoes there, though, because the same shoes she has for $90, you can get at village leather for $45-60.

Is the club you're working in going to have a housemom? you may want to get only one gown and your basic pair of shoes, and buy the rest of your dresses from the housemom, since you can get a better price and choice.
Also, another option is going to a place like Bang Bang or Joyce Leslie, where you can find basic fitted stretch dresses that you can wear to work - There is a Bang Bang and JoyceLeslie also on 8th Street.

Feel free to pm me if you have any more questions - and happy shopping!

    Tyler -
You can go here to do some online shopping from Ben Sherman:

My neighbor works as a national sales rep for Ben Sherman and told me that they are opening more stores around the country - who knows - maybe one in Seattle? (hmm. well, maybe not, but close?)

Thanks Jacqueline. My GF is named Jacqueline as well. Tell your friend they should definitely open a store here. I would go all the time. Tell them I am a size medium and they can mail shirts directly to my house. Just kidding.

Anyways. I have shopped there before, and actually I am waiting on an order from there right now. It's the light blue jacket. I am very excited. But they do not have the selection of a store, or ever have sales or anything like that.

I would be so excited if they opened a store here. They have the very best shirts I have ever worn. I'm tall and thin, and most shirts are too wide for me. They fit slim and nice looking.

For a long time I have been ordering shirts from the UK where they have stores. It's tough though cause I can't try the shirts on even, and I only see pictures of the shirts, not the actual thing.

Thanks for the link, and I am so jealous of you living in such a cool city. Seattle is cool, but NY is about as cool as it gets.

    Thanks again.

    Tyler.

Tyler, Nordstrom sells Ben Sherman. You can also look on their website.

Yeah, Nordstrom and the Bon both have a little bit of BS stuff. And so does urban outfitters.

But I want more! I'm like a junkie. I'd like to be a Ben Sherman model or something.
