    Default Some thoughts on beauty

Beauty's attractive, and we don’t want people to be attracted by old things. We want them to like the new ones.

    - Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

Even beauties can be unattractive. If you catch a beauty in the wrong light at the right time, forget it. I believe in low lights and trick mirrors. I believe in plastic surgery.

    - Andy Warhol

The beauty of life, is that you don't have to be modernly beautiful to live it.

    - C.S. lewis

I feel like a defective model, like I came off the assembly line flat-out fucked and my parents should have taken me back for repairs before the warranty ran out. But that was so long ago.

    - Elizabeth Wurtzel

There is no excellent beauty that hath not some strangeness in the proportion.

    - Francis Bacon

The best and most beautiful thing in life cannot be seen, not touched, but are felt in the heart.

    - Hellen Keller

The first question I ask myself when something doesn't seem to be beautiful is why do I think it's not beautiful. And very shortly you discover that there is no reason.

    - John Cage

Mute icons are the only kind of beauty we find acceptable today.

    - Mark Rothko

Fashion is merely a form of ugliness so unbearable that we are compelled to alter it ever six months

    - Oscar Wilde

Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us, or we find it not.

    - Ralph Waldo Emerson

We ascribe beauty to that which is simple; which has no superfluous parts; which exactly answers its end; which stands related to all things; which is the mean of many extremes.

    - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Beauty is an ecstasy; it is as simple as hunger. There is really nothing to be said about it. It is like the perfume of a rose: you can smell it and that is all.

    - William Somerset Maugham

Beauty is the purgation of superfluities

    - Michaelangelo, In Art/Michelangelo

Truth and love are my law and worship; Form and conscience my manifestation and guide; Nature and peace are my shelter and companion; Order is my attitude; Beauty and perfection are my attack.

    - Wayne Kramer, In Humanity

Funny thing is beauty is such an individual call....and MUST be combined with an inner light. Met many a beautiful girl only to discover she had no light, and evil lived in her house....she was then unforgivably ugly to me while others still fawned over her appearance, her facade if you will.

Such a relative term, that word Beauty, the meaning Beauty.

No one can make the call for me, I decide beauty in my world.

You should take control of that decison yourself NIN if you contemplate its meaning via anyone else's concerns or reflections.

    Peace...

And when Evil took a vacation, their friends the Schmeltzers from Boca Raton lived there to look over the Evils' pet cat, Clyde.

True beauty can't be seen. It lives inside to be heard and felt, for ourselves and others to enjoy!

I especially love the Warhol part about low lights and trick mirrors cause boy they make work a different place. A couple nights since summer started I've stayed and closed the club and boy do people look different in regular light. I really appreciated all those quotes. Just a collection of personal opinions on what it is and is not. I like it so thanks.

    Great collection of quotes!

Keep it up, but I would recommend a shorter list, so that each jewel might be held to the light seperately, inspected with care, appreciated, and then the next contemplated with leisure...

    And, Leigh, how true...

The emptiness of a woman whose beauty is no deeper than the surface of her skin is boundless.

I always try to remind the newbies in particular, that the real beauty is within.
