Default Need input from all the ladies please

Okay, earlier in the week I was at one of the local clubs having a Q/A session about the health care plans I market. After the meeting, one of the spouses of one of the dancers came up to me with an idea. He thought that it was interesting that I was putting most of my efforts into marketing towards the adult entertainment industry. He wanted to know if I had considered creating a "clearinghouse" as he put it, of things of interest to the industry, (IE: inexpensive healthcare, cellular services at a discount, paging services at a discount, clothing and accesories, etc.) Well, the more I thought about it, the better of an idea it seemed to me. What do you think about it, and what services do you think I should try to incorporate? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Basically, what I want to know is, what would YOU like to be able to get at a discount. So far, I have gathered healthcare services, paging, wireless, 1-800 service, investigations services to check your people out. Is there anything else of great use that you would love to see? I hope to have the site up in a couple of weeks and input is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
Keep in mind, this site is going to be geared towards all branches of adult entertainment---from dancers to porn stars LOL!!

The gym memberships may be more do-able than the tanning. There are gyms that are nationwide, but I don't know of too many tanning salons that run nationwide so benefits may be limited to geography. Thanks for the input!! Keep it coming!!

    Car and home insurance!

Maybe a discount card program for Sally Beauty Supply, and how about movies like for Blockbuster and some of the big theatre chains? Wow this is a great idea!

Hmm - sort of like getting a corporate discount card, huh? A lot of companies have a card that is valid with participating vendors, though what concerns me is that I'm sure that some (if not many) of them will be concerned about offering discount services to those in the adult industry, given the whole general stigma that's put on the industry, anyway.
I mean, it would be easy to get a discount at a condom supplier, but how easy would it be to get a discount with , say, Verizon Wireless? For example, strippers get a 10% discount card here in NY at Patricia Field, but her store is privately owned and supports all types of entertainment areas - from burlesque to cross-dressing to stripping, etc. She has the type of clientele that supports and is okay with the business...

Healthcare would definitely be great though - since I think that it's the biggest expense we incur! Thankfully in NY there is a metro health plan that you can get if you prove on paper that you make under a certain amount. (which is easy to do since most of what we make is cash). But not all states have managed healthcare like this besides medicare!

Keep us posted on your research, Pixie!

Actually, when I worked as a housemom, I tried to put together a "package" of area businesses that would offer discounts to my dancers. I had 4 tanning salons (different locations, near work, and near the major cities) nail salons, cell phone dealers, clothing, shoes, wigs, food, childcare, even furniture rental and shoe repair people all lined up!

I tried to take care of my girls!

Discounts from vendors such as Flirt or Tony shoes, travel and lodging discounts, special deals on cars (either lease vehicles or for purchase), Health care and affordable insurance programs for the self employed, some kind of disability insurance to cover entertainers in case they can't work due to extended illness or injury, Mortgage Programs w/o proof of income.

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

Okay---here is what I have so far that is confirmed for the site launch.

Healthcare program---discount plan covering dental, pharmacy, vision, physician, chiropractic, and legal services.

The above company also offers a service that provides discounts to many places, like Meineke, Sonic, Blockbuster, etc. They are willing to extend those services as well, but only to those that take part in the healthcare coverage. They also have discounts on lodging and travel services, from airfare to cruises.

Communications Services---company offering free pagers with activation (competitive service rates), free cell phones after rebates, good long distance service, reduced rate internet service, website hosting, local service in some areas (not nationwide yet due to the slow process of deregulation). Unlike a lot of offers I have gathered so far, this one will cover the girls in Canada as well.

Depending on the state, I do have a few resources for no verify mortgages. Though I don't think there would be any "savings", it is still a good service for people in the industry.

I am working with people from Bally's Total Fitness and Curves for Women, to see if perhaps they would consider my "company" for corporate membership, thus entitling my "employees" to their discounted memberships. Not much, but better than nothing.

For those in the escort industry: Online investigations at a good rate. A couple of local companies already use their services and they come highly recommended.

I am also working on discounted tax preparation services.

Another feature I plan to add to the site, since I do this non profit, is to have a "charity case" of the month. Someone who is having problems with a sick child, or injured and can't work, or domestic issues. But of course, at first, since there won't be an initial rush of visitors....I am thinking something broader, such as Habitat for Humanity or Make A Wish.

Still trying to get a good connection for clothing and shoes. Thats proven a bit trickier, but I do have the power of persuasion on my side LOL!

More details to come----keep those suggestions going.

Pixie, this sounds like the beginnings of an excellent package. I also don't think it unreasonable if you were to charge a small percentage for administering all of this. But you might want to stay focused on things which most dancers would value and avoid going too far afield with things that would be of limited value. Here's my wish list in order of priority

major medical (with a sizeable deductible to keep premiums really reasonable)
basic dental (without cosmetic to keep premiums really reasonable)
legal services including nationwide bail bond
    tax preparation services
    discount travel and accomodations
    discount dancer's outfits/clothing
online investigations are a good option
the retail discounts are of questionable value, particularly if they add to the cost

here's a new idea you haven't mentioned - a "merchant account" clearing house so that dancers can directly process credit card charges anonymously, either "online charges" for websites or "live payments" by customers.

"the retail discounts are of questionable value, particularly if they add to the cost"

The biggest increase of cost with the retail discount program is in enrollment. After the initial enrollment fee, it costs 50 cents per month. Definately not a necessity, but really good for people who would use it, such as travellers---the biggest benefit with the card is hotels.

"here's a new idea you haven't mentioned - a "merchant account" clearing house so that dancers can directly process credit card charges anonymously, either "online charges" for websites or "live payments" by customers. "

Thats a nifty idea.....I am definately going to have to check into that one.

"major medical (with a sizeable deductible to keep premiums really reasonable)
basic dental (without cosmetic to keep premiums really reasonable)
legal services including nationwide bail bond "

Thus far, the only medical and dental I have been able to gather up is the discount plan. On dental, it saves around 50% on procedures, including cosmetic and orthodontic, with no limits on use and it covers pre-existing conditions. But since it is a savings group and not "insurance" you must pay for services when rendered unless of course you make arrangements with the dentist. The medical gives an average savings of 30-40%, with chiropractic being the best of the deal. Providers on the list are growing, but it isn't as significant as the dental at this point. The legal services includes bailbonds services.

I am also crossing my fingers on the clothing, shoes, and accesories option.......may not be an initial offering on the site, but within a month I should have it available.

The reason why I am not concerned with charging for the services is simple.....I don't need to at this point. I make good money selling similar healthcare services to the general population. The only proceeds I will likely keep is the money needed to A. Keep the site open, B. Keep my 1-800 number on and running, C. Pay for advertising----the more the name gets out there, the more services I may be able to offer. You can call this my little "dream project". All the things I wanted to get when I was a dancer, but couldn't get BECAUSE I was a dancer. Thanks again everyone!
