Default Stripper Pole for home use? Does anyone have one?

I really want a stripper pole for home use so I can have the freedom to try my own moves at my own schedule and not worry about looking dumb. I saw the pole on www.stripperpole.com and the good thing about it is that you are supposed to be able to set it up or remove it easily once the base at the ceiling is installed. My question is, does anyone have experience with it? I live in an apartment where the ceiling is concrete and I don't know if this may pose a problem with installation. It have been wanting this for awhile and would get it if it is as sturdy and easy to manage as it sounds on their website.

I don't have an in-home stripper pole but...I'm wondering if there are any tax advantages to having one?? Like say if I have a stripper pole installed in a room in my house, can I write that room off on my taxes?

I'd love to install one in my house in a room with my weight and work out equipment, and then write off that room if possible...call it my "dance studio" for practice.

Is this possible? Can I do this? Does anybody know?

I don't know about tax write-off, you could probably make a case for it. I can tell you, though, that you will never regret having a pole in your own home. It is a blast to have one, and great for parties. You can also learn new tricks much, much easier, and without risk of embarassment.

    Hi there,
i have a brass pole installed in my home, had it for a few years. I wrote off my whole room, because it is used for phone sex, and web work. I write off things like linens i buy for shows, pillows and sexy cam clothing. (obviously i get away with the clothing because you can't wear it out, and it's not V.S. night wear). My pole has been used on cam before, so i write it off.
To just write off a pole in your home, may be ok, not sure. You have to be careful, because a pole in the home can be a way of working out, and anyone can use it.
I have a good accountant, and we go for items that will make sense to the IRS. I do web work and have used my pole for shows, that qualifies. I have a friend who asked the same thing to her accountant, and they went for it. She does not do web cam.
I was told people will try to write off a childs toy claiming they use it for work. I would be careful with the pole. Because at home it's only used for exersise. (in their eyes). The club has one fro you to practice on. Unless you are using the pole for work at home. Proof, sometimes has to be shown.

    Angelina,
i had guys from Home Depot with my roomy insall my pole. It does not swing. (had chrome that did swing first, sucked). I have a wooden floor and ceiling. Made it easier for me. But you have to have a good solid base, no matter what. And they are easy for the guys to make. It will be hinged to the base top and bottom. Very tight.
Anyone who installs pieces into homes can give you advice. These guys knew what they where doing because my roomy knows tha house well. But i needed that base. Builders are good people too, to help with stability issues. They build homes!

Good luck, it's really not that hard, just cost me some money. And time, with a dusty mess. Well worth it.

I have a 12 foot brass pole that when I ordered it they had to cut off 4 feet or it could not ship via ups. So now I have a pole and a swing in the theater room.
As for concrete you first have to drill pilot holes with a mason bit. Then use the anchor screws made for concrete.
Bit and special screws were under 5 bucks.

Hardest thing about installing pole was unwrapping it from its plastic shrink wrap that stuck like glue.

If you want a pole that you don't have to attach to the floor or ceiling go to www.platinumstages.com I've had one of these for awhile and it works really well. It's not hard to set up and it's free standing. You get a pole and a 4ft. by 4ft. stage. You can choose what kind of pole you want and what material the stage is made out of. They have lighting kits you can order to go with it too.

Watch the video on their website of Fawnia performing on one of their stages. It doesn't fall or swing wildly or anything but it does move and wobble a bit.

Yeah. It's pretty much like they show in the videos on the site. It's not gonna tip over or anything, not even close, but it does have a little more give than most of the poles I've used in clubs cause it's not bolted to the ceiling. I wouldn't worry about your "fat ass" lol (I'd be willing to bet your ass isn't even close to being fat ) you should be just fine. I weigh about 155 lbs. and it holds me.

I'm putting one up in my garage. Going to use a stainless steel pole that I can disassemble easy enough. The littleminx sounds sound enough. You will need concrete anchors to secure it in place. It would be best if you had it professionally done if you don't have the expertise yourself and it also gives you recourse should they do the job wrong. You don't want to mess with your safety .
Angelina, as long as you are using your pole for your profession it's deductible. Ask your accountant about it . They should know how to file your returns. I'd just be certain you have adequate clearances when practicing your techniques.
I am highly suspicious about the stand alone platinum stages pole. I am almost positive it will tip over on many of the high velocity spins employed by dancers if it isn't secured by some means at the top.

Dreamer i know that i was not able to write off my pole unless i could show a means that i actually had used it for entertainment purposes. Web cam worked obviously.
Other than that, it is considered a piece of exercise equipment, no more than the thigh master. My gf did try to write off the pole, she just had it installed, no private parties to account for the use etc. So she failed.
It's funny what people will try to write off. But i don't think haveing a stripper pole in the house just because you practice on it qualifies. At least in her case it did not. It's not used for "work' in the home.
That is what i have been through, thats all. Clubs have poles, and the girls can go in early to practice on it would be an arguement.

I got the stage with the clear plexiglass top, and the chrome finished pole. I also have some of Fawnia's videos. They're probably not much help if you are already experienced with a pole. But when I started out I didn't have the first clue about spinning or tricks on the pole at all, so it helped me out a lot.

Concerning the tax issue, I used to do taxes for a living for a company - a paid tax preparer for 3 tax years. I think a stripper pole in the home definitely falls into a grey area for tax purposes. Generally, if you're filing a simple business return, you should be able to deduct the cost of the pole itself and the installation as a business expense - not the room it's in. This sort of thing falls into that area where whether it's an allowable expense is subjective. If you deduct it and then get audited, all you'd have to do is produce the receipts to verify the cost of it, and say you used it strictly to practice maneuvers for your stage shows. In my mind it would be hard for an IRS auditor to claim that is equivalent to a thighmaster, since you don't use it simply to exercise, you use it to cultivate skills for your job. Just like other professionals are allowed to deduct the cost of professional seminars, further training and books, manuals and periodicals relating to their field. In my opinion, an accountant who won't 'allow' a stripper to deduct the cost of an in-home pole that she uses to practice on, is simply covering his ass IN CASE of an audit, not really looking out for the best interest of his/her client, since that particular item isn't specifically named as a deductible by the IRS. Accountants are human and NOT always the most reliable source for what is an allowable deduction, and they are not the ones with the final word on whether you should take a deduction - the IRS is. In any case, if and when I ever get a pole in my home for practice, you can bet I'll deduct it as a business expense (not the room, just the pole and installation) and won't sweat for a second at the thought of an audit.

Understand completely what you are saying Bridgette, bUt it is a grey area for a pole. I have written off my one room because everything i do here is for web cam, phone sex, and posing nude, major lighting etc. I wrote off my pillows because i use them for cam and linens. My pole was able to fit i there simply because i have shown and used it a few times on cam.
A stripper pole is a red flag to alot of accountants. Only because clubs have them. Thats like putting a stage in your house and tying to write it off, you can't. Claiming you practice on it for work? Yes, that would be the case, but some items are red flags, i have dealt with the pole issue for many years, and since i brought it into cam i know i am safe. It is used.
People will try to write off the most stupid items, like a pen they only use for working purposes, etc.
That is why i was questioned for a long time about the pole. Others will play with it, it's a fact. And clubs provide poles for use. That has been a problem for me with trying to write off the pole for some time. Until i did cam, and brought it into my show.
It is not unusual for the IRS to check out your room, and it better be for working purposes only. Been there.
Just saying through all this rambling, not everything is a tax write off, like we would like. You have to be careful, really, many people get audits, i naver have, this year they are pretty random. But some friends have over the years, the pole was a total waste.

Yes you're right, but the the point I was trying to make in my rambling was just that sometimes accountants may not necessarily be the best people to ask for something like this. Accountants are, after all, not the ones who will have the final say in case of an audit, and when deciding on whether to take a deduction on something like a stripper pole for practice, I am sure they'd tend to 'err on the side of caution' and strongly advise you don't take the deduction simply because they wouldn't want to 'let' you do it and then deal with the hassle of an audit later. Especially since when you use an accountant for your taxes, they generally have to justify all the deductions they took on your return if there is an audit, so in my opinion, most of them will tend to avoid deducting something that might cause a question not because they are sure it wouldn't be allowed but because they just don't want to deal with the possible hassle of defending it later.

However, in my 3 year experience as a trained tax preparer (not a CPA), it was always stressed that one of the MAIN deductions that caused a red flag for the IRS was in-home room deductions. A straight deduction for training equipment is FAR less likely to throw up a red flag for the IRS than a room deduction. So as I said before, I personally would take the cost of a stripper pole and its installation as a deduction, not the expenses of the room (since I don't do webcam).

I was lucky and my apartment came with a pole (structural but its the same width and non-painted to boot) in my basement. Eight feet high as well. My best friend is a dancer and she has been teaching me pole tricks just for shits. I have to admit its very fun and a decent workout to boot. Now how many guys can say that he's a master on a pole

LOL! Not long ago we had a power outage at work just when I was about to start dancing for a guy that lasted 45 minutes or so. The club had just installed a huge new generator but it went out in a couple minutes, so while we waited, (the guy was a really good sport) I put him up on the upstairs stage that we don't use unless it's REALLY packed on the main floor, and got him on the pole! LOL he actually picked up some spins and climbing pretty quickly, and it made for great entertainment for him, me and the upstairs waitress!

Try this one, Jonathan, I have never seen anyone else but me, male or female, do it, but maybe you can...

Grip the pole, as low as possible, with your stronger hand. Grip the pole, with your weaker hand, as high as possible.

Flip up and hook the toe of one foot at the junction of the pole and the ceiling. Take the other foot and search out on the ceiling for a good spot to push on.

Do so. If you keep practicing this, you will now appear to be running around upside down on the ceiling.

Now for getting back down, try to hold yourself as close as possible to a ninety degree angle and pause...

If you want to impress the ladies with pole tricks, this should suffice quite well, but be warned, some of them think it is "unmanly" for a guy to to this.
