i firmly believe if a woman can't get on stage, or hustle without being under the influence, she does not belong in the business.
I totally agree. But I'm still quite vehemently opposed to drug testing in the workplace.

ps Thanx for the link Pryce!

I recall watching an informative program on this very subject and how complicated things can get with false positives or the very fact your diet can provide a positive testing.
One thing in particular struck me and sticks in my mind to this day, was eating poppyseed cake, resulted in a positive testing for OPIUM! That blew me away - thinking what of the job loss for that person over something like a choice in cake??
    How do you argue??
So that part of drug testing and losing your job over such an error is scary.

    LL:

That was old technology--made famous in an episode of Seinfeld. They HAVE isolated the poppyseed false positive, if my SAPD friend is truthful--and he has never given me reason to doubt that!

Now, as to this "personal freedom" business:

Anyone who wants to regulate how far a dancer wants to go with a customer IN A CLUB is, by defiition, infringing on that dancer's "personal freedom". (What would ol' Ben have to say about that?) True, it is being infringed upon for sound, well-thought out (albeit IMHO mistaken) reasons, but it is infringement nonetheless.

If I had to choose, I would much rather have some extras going on than drugs in our clubs. If I could purge drugs over extras, I'd do it in a instant.

Well no accounting for info - it was merely remembered thru a television program some time ago.

Good to hear, but it does make one wonder, I have had to stroll thru many a dressing room fogged with marijuana smoke, or had to wait in that dressing room with same fog, so second hand ingestion of such...wonder if that'd show?

Dunno - it smacks of so many variables on the testing situation.

I think a manger or management should be aware/conscious of staff being overly intoxicated and send them home. Explaining it just isnt condusive to the clubs atmosphere, and to please refrain from such activity if she wishes to continue her employment at that club.

Okay, first lets clear up the what MDMA/E/X/Ecstacy does to you deal uh? Sorry, nothing bugs me more than myth and half truth about substances when education is soooo important.

    http://www.dancesafe.org/documents/druginfo/ecstasy.php

And as far as testing goes, I'm incredibly opposed to testing as a basis for employment. It's completely unfair to essentially accuse someone of using, and requiring them to prove otherwise. Since when do we assume guilt?

On the other hand - I think if there is reason to believe that someone is intoxicated at the workplace, then piss test away. Reasonable suspicion is perfectly fair in my eyes. Accusing someone before hiring as a "policy" or testing at random as a scare tactic is crap. Sure, testing for reasonable suspicion can show something from weeks before, but it's still a better policy than no reason at all.

Oh, and here's the durations drugs last in your body.

Smurf you are correct and then not. That site with drugs lasting that duration in the body is VERY incorrect. If you take a Xanax for anxiety for example it will break down OR make the other drug (many) last longer in the body. Drugs interact with each other, and cause a longer/shorter half lives.
I have been taking drug tests for 6 years now. 1st one mandatory upon hire, at a hospital it is SO important to have your wits about you. And a few random.
Poppyseeds do not prove positive for "pot". If you read about them they do not enter the blood stream as 'pot' does, that is why we sell them on bread etc. you can not get high on them. They break down differently in the body even if you try, this has to be thought about for us who do get tested.

Tylenol, which seems harmless enough goes to the liver where every other drugs does. Tylenol will make 'crack' last longer in the blood stream, although crack breaks down faster, and does not last as long as tylenol it does compete. The liver can not take all drugs at once, even 2 and break them down quickly enough.
Also remember, one prescribed drug can cancel out another type of drug in the same family, and will slide through testing altogether.

Nothing is positive 100% of the time. But if it makes for a better work place, i am for it. I can't have a doctor on "coke" doing heart surgery on me. Good god!!
And in the dancing world, many dancers become violent and mess up others lives because of drugs. They are dangerous. And of course you are reading this from a woman who sees it alot at the hospital. maybe thats why i don't care for illegal drugs. Have friends who smoke pot, but i just don't want it around me when they are doing it. One guy gets all pissy, from half a JOINT!!! And his friend just passes out, and at the damn wheel!!!! Hits a stop sign.
Drugs suck. If you use, be safe, and stay home, where others can't get hurt. I see it all too often. And overdose mimics many other ailments, flu for one.
Sorry for the rant. I am done

No Pam not pot but opium. Poppies = opium

I have no idea the leaps in technologies and all that it entails, nor do I worry - I do not imbibe in any drug use.

But I did wonder the effects of second hand pot smoke? WOuld there be a residual effect?

Yes poppies seeds are not what you get high on, but yes poppy seeds, opium. Not on our food. They have been processed. That is what i meant. Otherwise the bread would be flying off the shelves, it does not. They can't get high on them. Or test positive for "opium" in the blood.
And YES, you will inhale from being in a closed car, elevator and a small room while people smoke. Quickly walking through a cloud in an open area i would not worry, simply hold your breath.
Don't hang around though. many cheapos go for car rides with friends, leave the windows up and let the others smoke away! While "cheapo" gets a good buzz!

I wanted to say thank u so much for all the information given on this site. It sure was very helpful. And of course I dont intend to try to use drugs. Im very strong mind person who will say "Hell No!!" to drugs.

I always keep this in my mind, that a dancer couple years ago used so much drugs and she went bad. Blew 40 k bucks on cocaine!!! And she said it wasn't worth it cuz she regretted it anyhow she went to rehab and recovered. She been clean for couple years now. So when I see dancers like that I stay away from them and think they'll end up like she did in past. Im no fool I will not spend money on drugs not even weed cuz I have money to spend that's well worth my time such as motorcycle, cars, house, clothes and whatnot. ; -)

My X-wife was a dancer often accused
of being high at work. it was just her
personality. Im impressed with what I
am reading but I think I have seen booze
as much dammage to peoples lives overall.
