Default Dancing being 20 pounds overweight

It has come to a point that I really NEED to WORK.
I have been avoiding this because I wanted to be 115 pounds by the time I was to be prepared for work.
    I'm 5'3 and 140lbs. [shameful]

Has anyone danced being about 20 pounds overweight?

Did you work in a decent place, and not a dive while being 20 pounds overweight?

I need some motivation to get back to work even in the state I'm in. Nobody undersatnds that an office job is not going to cut it for me. My BF has been supporting me and I need money of my own. But- I can't get myself to start a new dancing routine because I'm not comfortable in my own skin!

I have seen lots of girls working in decent clubs who were around 20 pounds overweight. They make money. There's one where I work now who is probably 30 pounds overweight and she's one of the top earners in the club - she definitely has to work hard for it, but then so do we all, and there are lots of guys who either enjoy rounder women or who don't mind so long as you're a good dancer and have a good personality.

I say give it a try! You may not make the most money in the club, but you can make more than 'office pay' and it's a great way to work off some pounds! I always tighten up more when I work more. Try working 5 nights a week for a couple months and I bet you'll shed some inches quickly - besides making money! Go for it!

Can't tell ya how much I missed your posts Bridgette while you were on hiatus (boobies - YAY!) -

Your post here Bridgette, got me thinking - yes, there are a number of ladies sportin a few extra pounds in the industry, 20 isnt a huge amount, and maybe Outerspace you carry them well and it may not be an issue too much except of course in how you feel about it.

This one club in T.O. there is a couple BBW and they do quite well....some men have a thing for that curvasious voluptuous girl...just as much as some guys hanker after the Twiggy girl, some guys love big boobs whether they are man made or not! Some men love a small perky boob - Varety is the spice of lust!

Working definitely will help shed some pounds, no doubt about that, and may get you kick started in the losing of them...

I agree - just give it a go - it may work in your favor!

Default : Dancing being 20 pounds overweight

Do you look 20 pounds overweight? I've been 20-30 pounds over for the past several years and nobody can tell. Currently I've 5'4/140, a few months ago I was even 150, but my body looks proportionate. In fact, guys seem to like me more and I make more money now than when I was 115. If you've got big breasts you should be able to pull it off fine.

Don't forget that muscle weighs more than fat does, too. I'm almost 5'5 and probably 140/150, but a lot of my weight comes from muscle. For me, dress size matters more than size- as long as I don't go over a 6, I'm a happy girl! Go for it, sweetie, I'm sure you'll be just fine.

Attitude is a big key too. Ive seen dancers who have some extra weight totally win over customers by their personality and attitude.

I would tend to think that more men enjoy a fuller sized woman than they care to admit, due to the stupid social stigma attached to such a preference. Maybe seeing you dance will allow them to indulge that preference in relative social safety.

Dance for three or four months at least three nights a week. I'm sure that if you're not taking in lots of extra calories (actually, you should start balancing your nutrition if you want to dance most productively) you will notice that the weight comes off in large part. I a 5'3" myself and weigh about 110. In my experience it is muscle tone that matters, and this will develop the longer you've been dancing.

I won't lie and say that I think chubbier dancers are happier than skinny dancers. I thin, as has been said before, that attitude matters most. I personally know that my attitude is best when I feel my fittest. The job is not easy, but I think it gets easier once your own self-image is pretty solid.

Like I said, just start dancing and see what happens. There are plenty of good ways to lose weight and tone up, but you may find you are happy and make money just as you are ! Good luck cherub!

I have seen dancers that should definately lose some weight, but that does not stop them from gettinf hired OR making money. I think if you are round that's fine. I don't think cellulite is a turn on for men, but plenty of thin girls have this problem. A pretty face, nice hair, good personality I think is what most men look for anyway. Don't let anyone bring you down. And don't look around in the dressing room at the other dancers thinking "if only I was thinner, had bigger boobs, longer legs, etc". Accept you for you and everyone else will too, and if not............screw them.

That is so true! I hear that stuff all the time. The biggest reason that girls don't earn money (in my opinion) is because they don't believe in themselves. I think selling the product is so much easier if the saleswoman believes it's worth it.

I'm carrying extra fat in the thighs and my lower abs pop out!!

Thank god some of my outfits are tie-side bikini's because I think I'd be popping out of my tighter things.
    (Embarrassed)

I've worked in less than average clubs before and I'd rather not look back. Do you think one of the middle of the road bikini sports bars would let me audition and not tell me I'm fat?

    Outerspace-
I've seen your threads about feeling old and out of shape and you seem so down on yourself! You act like you won't get hired and guys won't be attracted to you. I'm sincerely trying to help when I say you need to change your attitude about yourself if you want to get into dancing. A delicate self-esteem will be shattered in the biz. i'm sure you know this!

Can you afford to work out at your local YMCA 4 days a week?

You know which clubs will hire girls who are not in perfect shape. What city are you in? If you don't know where getting hired in your area is not a major issue, someone on this site does.

Find the best middle of the road club you can which will hire a girl who is a size 10 or 12. And work the floor hard and be friendly and pleasant with the customers and you'll be one of the top sellers there.

Would an extra $75-$150 a night several nights a week help out? If so, just get hired where you can and cut out the caffeine, sugared sodas, sodium and red meat and fast foods and work out 4 days a week and you'll be in functional shape within 2 months. And don't drink in the clubs. Just drink water and bring your own decaffeinated diet soda with you. Tell the customers you have a medical condition where you can't consume alcohol.

    Good luck.

I think if you go to a average middle-of-the-road club you would be fine. I'm not sure where you are, but I work in upscale clubs and have seen very different types of dancers. Not everyone is Barbie, and more importantly, not all men like Barbie.
I have seen some with tattoos just about everywhere, different piercings, too skinny, big thighs, cellulite, very tall, super short, and belly's just to give you an idea. The bottom line is men like woman, and they go to a strip club to see naked women and I think they realize that all women come in different shapes and sizes. They like the diversity. If they didn't they wouldn't be there in the first place.
