just an FYI about this post.

According to the us census data www.fedstats.gov

The last time I looked at it the makeup of the united states on their site was last year. The data looked like this.

    87% non hispanic caucasian
    6% non hispanic african american
6% in this last 6 % it includes hispanics, asians pacific islander etc
    1% other

Just letting you know that minorities really are a minority. If you live in a big city you see more of them but they still are a miniority. That is what your fighting against, pure numbers.

Ever wonder why there are so many caucasian women on magazine covers? Commercials, billboards, musicians, music videos? 87% of the country is caucasian, they are looking at pure market statistics. It totally sucks.

I doubt Farmer Joe would do that at the bank, because at least there, he's not paying me to entertain him.

Dollylocks, welcome to SW. Since I originated this post and am black I will offer you my feedback.

Most dancers no matter what color are lousy salespeople and don't see dancing as a business or career.

I suggest that you FIRST off take the Dancer Wealth class by teleconference. You will be taught WHAT to say to the customers, HOW to work the floor, HOW to dress, and HOW to deal with resistance from customers and managers.

AFTER you take the class, then follow what you were taught 100% with EVERY customer you deal with in EVERY club you work in.

At that point you can evaluate how well you stack up against white dancers.

Also as a dancer of color you need to find a club that is your niche. A club where you have become popular, and are in good with management and most of the other dancers.

A club with too many black dancers may be a liability for you. A club where you are the only black dancer or maybe there is only one other one might be ideal for you. And these clubs tend to be in areas with small black poluations.

Being only 18, in many states you are limited to juice bars which for the most part have a younger clientele who is harder to sell.

States like Texas allow you to dancer in full bar clubs at 18, and Arizona is 19. You need to do your research to find out where you are allowed to dance in a full bar club at your age as earnings potential is generally higher in alcohol clubs.

Being comfortable with all races is important. If you were raised in an area where the majority of people you were around were black, learning to be comfortable interacting in a predominately white environment will be necessary. Once you take the dancer class and religiously use what is taught to you with every customer, you will loosen up in no time.

That is not to say that you will not encounter redneck customers. You just leave them alone and go on to the next one. No one sells or is attractive to everyone.

White men do buy from black girls. Actually in most cases more often than black men buy from black girls.White men become regulars of black girls all the time. And black girls who are attractive, polished, articulate, have good selling skills, good hustle, and great personalities oftentimes keep up with or beat top selling white girls in the same club. Of course you have to find the right club.

The best looking white girls are not always the top sellers. The white girl who is a 6-7 many times outsells regularly the 8's and 9's. And why do many dancers who are 40 years old outsell the younger ones?

A lot of the reason white people are promoted more is because white people control the wealth in this country. If our black race would wake up and focus on creating wealth and POWER in the US, then blacks would be less dependent on having to kowtow to whites for a job, and we would see a big shift in racial conditions here.

Actually the black population in the US is about 12%, with the hispanic numbers having surpassed us by a few percent which explains why white people who control our country have embarked on the Hispanic bandwagon at the expense of blacks. As black people we have to learn how to create our own destiny and not rely on whites to "give us a chance". they will take care of their own first.

Dollylocks, take that class, master it and be good at what you have learned. That is how you have a chance of competing successfully in a white dominated industry and country.

Alright, well that shouldn't be too difficult. I grew up in an upper-middle class neighborhood, where most of my friends (as well as my boyfriend) have been white. This is not so say that I don't get along with black people, it's just that where I grew up, I was basically the only black girl. "Black", not "ethnic", because everyone has an ethnicity, even caucasions. Because of my upbringing, I've become very comfortable with races other than my own. People are People, i say.

That will realy suck if I can't work at clubs where older men frequent...young guys are SO cheap !

Very interesting thread. I am worried about this myself as I am going from a predominantly black club in Maryland to audition at the Hustler and GGC in Baltimore. These are "white clubs" and I'm not sure if I'll even get hired. however, the first club I ever worked at was a white club. I'm light but I definately look black. One girl told me I should try to "pass" for white and I would definately get hired (I can't "pass" by the way, my race is obvious). I told her that's ridiculous but it was kinda funny that she thought it would be that easy for me to lie about my race. The only thing I'm really worried about is the dancing. At my old club all I had to do was shake my ass. I can dance for real but it was much easier just to bend over and pop my booty. I'll have to learn how to dance like a white girl again .

It's extremely racist in Detroit and the metro area. The clubs that black women have to work at aren't even the hypest clubs nor most upscale clubs here! I have worked in a nice amount of clubs in Detroit, and I have only waitressed outside of Detroit because they would tell me they are not hiring for dancers at the time. I knew it was becasue I am thick and black. But the good thing is that black men will pay the money to see big asses... no matter the costs! I love that!

Just when I was saying that the majority of black male customers are cheap, this past month I have made more than half of my earnings from new younger black and spanish guys coming into the club. Maybe things are changing for the better...hm

I think it depends all on how you carry yourself. If you walk up in the place, looking like every other black dancer, then why would they want you? Or maybe they didn't want you because you were TOO thick!

I have always felt like this. I would much rather work in a club where I am one of the few black girls present. It helps you stand out amongst the crowd.

Again, I agree. I think it is all about how you carry yourself. They want a "black" girl, but they don't want a "ghetto" black girl. I think a white guys fantasy is the well spoken, articulate woman (think Halle Berry) who can blend in with a crowd! If this is how you carry yourself, then you won't just be "another black dancer" you will be a dancer.

why do some people still have to fight to get the same opportunities that are given to others?

According to the CIA world factbook this is the breakdown:

white 77.1%, black 12.9%, Asian 4.2%, Amerindian and Alaska native 1.5%, native Hawaiian and other Pacific islander 0.3%, other 4% (2000)
note: a separate listing for Hispanic is not included because the US Census Bureau considers Hispanic to mean a person of Latin American descent (including persons of Cuban, Mexican, or Puerto Rican origin) living in the US who may be of any race or ethnic group (white, black, Asian, etc.)

Not that it changes anything, but I'm wondering which numbers are the truth.

I frequent a club with about 2 black dancers aout of 40. (I say about, because there's also a travelling girl in there occasionally). This is in a heavily white (about 94%) area. They both seem to do pretty well.

Interesting thread. What I will say is this: we love having professional dancers of any and all color in our club. While it’s true Montana is 99.5% white, and the majority of women who have danced here are white, racial discrimination amongst management here is a non-issue. Show up on time, have a good time, treat the customers well and everyone is happy. If you’re traveling this way, email or give us a call.

I've noticed it as a white dancer. If there is more then one black girl working They never put them near each other in the line up(for stage) and if there is a few black girls working i've heard them comment that they need some "white meat" but if it is only white girls they never say that they need or want or would like some variety of any kind.

As a white customer I would say that it is my view that it is all in the eyes of the beholder. My preference is for anyone EXOTIC!! Long, dark hair (preferably curly or wavy but not a requirement); Darker skin; and most important must have nice curves (small or large just must have shape with a little muscle). My favorite dancers happen to be indian, asian, hispanic and black. Black women usually have the nicest curves around. I can only remember buying dances from white women on 3 different occasions in all the years I have frequented clubs. Point I'm trying to make is simply that racism may exist but in today's day and age I must equate racism as just another form of preferential prejudice. I don't like dancers that stink (which is a group of people). I don't like dancers that are slutty (which is a group of people). I don't like dancers that are drug users (which is a group of people). And you know what? Some of you dancers don't like customers that stink, or offer drugs as tips etc... That's your preference! Another form of discrimination. Human nature is to discriminate to our likes and dislikes. I just want to see people stop using the race card!

I AGREE 100%!!! I am not arrogant or concieted at all, but I know for a fact that I could have given all except for 4 girls a run for their money in that club I was at, both white and black. I already made a regular and I was only there for a weekend! The owner of the club said I was hired the first night after he saw the reaction I got from the guys during my set. The second night I worked there I sold more dances than ANY girl that night, yet I was told they had too many black girls so I wasn't hired. I was completely baffled!
That was about a month ago and guys are still wondering "Where is Naomi?" Oh well I'm trying to find another place to dance at for the time being.

Specifically, I am interested in forming a coalition of customers from across the US and Canada to blacklist clubs that are not willing to make customers happy by having a diverse collection of dancers.

Honestly, I am tired of going to second and third tier clubs just to see a dime piece that should have been in the top club. Yeah it's cheaper in the 2nd or 3rd tier club but it is not safer.

Also, I'd like to address another issue. This is meant with all respect to all the ladies, but remember just because a guy is of your same race does not obligate him to get dances from you exclusively. You see as patrons we are fighting a war for equality to and I do not want any club to automatically make me have a white, black, latino, or asian dancer. I want the right to choose, but I want a good selection.

I personally believe that there are beautiful women in all races and that every woman has her own beauty.

To all the ethnic dancers... I am behind you as a customer.

Owners and management care more about what customers think than anyone. If more of you spoke up, things would be different.

Maybe they assume that more girls of color attract men who are trouble or don't have much money. Look what happened to Minxx in Vegas during NBA All-Star Weekend.

this is what my club does, we are situated next to two projects, and the only high end strip club in town. so they restrict hip hop and rap and keep the black dancers ratio quite low.

im not saying its right, im just saying what our club does.

    ^^

My club does the same thing. We aren't in a necessarily "bad" area - although it's not the best. It's a very upscale club - and so far I've only seen 1 black dancer. I don't see how that ISN'T racist...with the amount of girls that work there.

We do get black customers, but not very many. Never large groups - usually just your lone black businessman or older guy. I also posted earlier in a music thread - they won't allow rap (or even a pop song, if it contains a rap verse). It is total discrimination if you ask me. They are obviously trying to keep a white crowd. Although this doesn't directly affect me or my $$$, I would be pissed if I were a black girl, b/c the club is really nice and I would want to work there and not down the street at Dallas Gentlemen's or Onyx. Just doesn't seem right at all.

we have a good mix of races at my club... but now that I'll be living in a very spanish area of miami I hope I can stand out. :-( Alot of people say I look spanish.

I don't see a huge discrimination problem at any clubs where I've worked... but I also live in s.fl... its a melting pot of cultures here.
