Default Injured Dancer - Please Help!

I broke my toe and I can't work without modified/special dancer's shoes. Can anyone help? Information, resources, or offers for work in the Phoenix area would be greatly appreciated! Please email me directly at [email protected]

    Thanks,
    Amber

I have no idea what you are talking about but depending on the toe you broke...I never heard of any modified shoes, thats just OUT there man.

I worked with a broken toe before and just bound it tightly to the other two toes side by each, and wore my most comfortable almost overstretched shoe for comfort, - if I were to do it again? I would just wait till the toe healed.

You broke your toe, bottom line is it will heel quickly, toes do. If you dance with any special shoes, you prolong your injury, and may deform your toe as well.

Best thing you can do is take some time off and let your toe heal. If you don't have any money saved, first, this is a perfect example of why you should save some money, and a good reason to consider getting some health insurance. But not to sound callous, just to make a point....if you don't have any money saved and really need money to live while your toe is healing, maybe you have friends/family who can help you out? I know it may not be the best choice, but it's better to let your toe heal than to try to work with the injury and risk hurting it more and/or causing it to heal improperly and possibly leading to even worse problems.

I have no idea about modified stripper shoes. Never heard of such. I also don't know anyone in your area so can't offer any help there. I think we do have a member or two from your area though, who might be of some assistance....

Thank you all for responding. You are right about this being a perfect example of why I should have money saved, and let this be a lesson to other girls too. I wasn't even doing anything dangerous, so if you dance and think that you can just go to work tomorrow to make your money, you may get out of a chair the wrong way and break your little toe before you get a chance. (Don't ask, I'm still wondering how the hell it happened like that!)

I see the Dr. tomorrow to get the final word on whether or not I will need surgery (complete fracture - I snapped in half the third phalange down on the right little toe), but I was hoping to find a way to keep working. Sad thing is, my only limitation right now is dancing. I can walk, drive, do my day to day stuff, but I can't bend my foot the way those shoes require. And it doesn't even really hurt. I have some friends looking into options for me work the door at a club.

If nothing else, let me be a lesson to others to "Pay Yourself First", because the landlord, cellphone company, etc. aren't going to take care of you in a bind. The day I go back to work, 20% off the top goes into the "Broken Toe/Other Emergency Fund". Because there is no reason, with the income potential we have, to not save some of it. Now I know better. I thought I knew better before, I just didn't think it would come to this. Hopefully someone will read this and not make the same mistake.

From the posts I have read so far, it seems most of you already have it together. Too bad I didn't meet you sooner! =)

Well don't beat yourself up! It's just always a good idea to save for a rainy day, and for other goals for that matter, since you never know what can happen to put you out of work for weeks! I'm hoping you have some family you can lean on to help pay the necessities until you can get back to work! And wishing you luck getting a door job until you recover. At least it's just a toe and not something worse!

Anyway, how long have you been working at your club? If you're on good terms with management they may help you out - like let you waitress or work door, or let you dance in lower heels and only work the floor, no stage while you recover. Can you use lower heels or is it too bad even for that? Also, have you thought about the 'massage girl' thing? I have no idea if something like that would be allowed at clubs in your area, but worth a shot to ask managers anyway! Some clubs have girls working who dress sexy but not like dancers, and who do nothing but go around offering to give customers a massage for a song or two for, say, $10. In places I've seen it, the massage girl is always busy and you never know, it might be a great way to supplement your income even after you go back to dancing! It might be worth a shot to talk with your manager(s) about some of these options. Good luck!

Amber what club are you working in Phoenix? I know Amazons(7th St and Camelback) recently canned the night waitsatff (managment change) so they may be hiring...talk to Monty.

Thanks! Those are some great ideas! I have actually borrowed some money from friends, but I can only borrow so much. I will know more tomorrow, I'm just brainstorming ideas in the meantime because I know I'm going to be taking a huge paycut until I can get back in those shoes.

If you've been at your club for a while, you can tape your toes together and wear ballet slippers and see if management will let you work that way.

If not, you can do the whole internet thing... phone sex on keen.com, webcam on iFreinds, sell some outfits on ebay.

    You girls rock!

I went to the Dr. and he said "No dancing for at least 3 weeks." That seems to be my only limitation. I am looking for a cocktail waitressing position. Anyone know of an upscale club or bar that is hiring in Phoenix or the surrounding cities? I'll be doing my own looking on Thursday. I have a few ideas of where to go, but nothing definite yet. Wish me luck! And thank you again for the great ideas. I may still look into some of them. Ballet slippers is great. I would have never thought of that!
