    Default Smoking Pot

I am just curious about those of you who smoke pot on a regular basis. By regular basis, I would say that in my opinion, that would be several times a week...I smoked pot in high school, and here and there for maybe a year or two after. I got into it because my friends did it (proof positive about all that peer pressure stuff)

I never owned a bowl, never had papers on me...I believe I never even purchased any of it myself...it was just always around.

Now that I am older (older at 24!) I don't smoke pot, and haven't for a loooong time. When I was dating, I never dated anyone who smoked pot, and now I tend to not hang out with people who do...I guess I never really "got into it".

What is the appeal to doing it ALL the time? I'm not judging...just curious. Also, for those of you who smoke pot, do you also smoke cigarettes? Do you think one is worse/better than the other?

    Thanks!

I'm going to be 20 in July, and I've never even smoked a joint in my life. I've had some of the other girls call me a "chicken sh*t" and tell me "You're going to eventually anyways", etc. But then again those are the ones who are smoking it pretty much every day and every chance they get in the dressing room. I'd estimate that about 75%, if not more, of the girls smoke pot at least occasionally. I think I'm also the only one that doesn't choose to drink (even though I'm underage, they bring it to the dressing room too). It's yucky stuff, anyways.

the appeal to smoking pot all the time is kinda obvious. some ppl enjoy being stoned. =) and it's not really one of those "drugs" that u can't function normally on.

Yeah, I'll be the first to admit that I smoke, not on a consistent basis by all means, but I haven't sworn it off entirely.

I can't speak for everyone who does it, just for myself. Weed offers me the occasional mood/body relaxer. And when I say occasional, I do mean maybe once every couple of months or so. At times it's also a social enhancer, depending on my mood. I may not be in the mood to drink, but I would rather feel a different affect, hence the weed smoking. This is when I'm at a party or just hanging out with friends. I also don't need an illicit substance in order to enjoy myself. In fact, I usually don't take/do anything. But randomly, I do enjoy the occasional smoke. [smokin]

You've never dated anyone who smokes pot.
    lucky you!
my bf has just stormed out of the house on me after being a prick to me all day because i won't get him any pot.
this is someone who has pretty much just gotten better after spending dec, jan, feb off the planet
(hearing things, seeing things, imaginary friends, everyone out to get him)
due to drug psychosis caused by smoking a shitload of hydro all day everyday then having a few points of speed.
now he's moved in with me and my family and now bugs me all day every bloody day to get him some pot.
i think i have made a mistake having him moved in here. thought i could help him. silly me.
should i just ask him to move out? that way he'll just fuck up his own life won't ruin mine again.

anyways i'm an occasional smoker too being about once every few months. never a social thing for me it just makes me go to sleep! so i smoke more of it when i'm stressed like exam time!
but yeah its fun (before i zonk out) makes you think different. so nothing is such a big deal. nice.
but the appeal of smoking it everyday i'll never understand.
    i prefer reality.

sorry that was so long guys. he just stormed out of the house like 15 mins ago so when i got on and saw the topic i had to get it off my chest.

I'm very similar, never bought the stuff myself, but its always around me due to my friends.

One friend uses it every day. He was in an accident, pretty severe injuries, and uses it to escape from the reality of that and to help the pain (physical, but more importantly the emotional pain).

One friend used to use it to escape from his depression. Both those guys are regular cigarette smokers, too.

I personally find that the effects on me are not at all worth the use. If I'm feeling fine, then nothing at all happens. Zip. No effect whatsoever. If I'm tired or run down, I get a few minutes of giggling, ravenous hunger, and then I can't do anything but sleep the next day. Not worth it!

All drugs are bad, if done to excess, including alcohol(yes, it's a drug, and no drunk will ever give me shit for smoking a little pot without getting an earful), nicotene, caffeine, steroids, do I need to go on?

The key is moderation. I have never met anyone who doesn't have some kind of bad habit.

I take tiny little hits, and avoid the kryptonite stuff.

Some people cannot control themselves with certain drugs, and shouldn't do them, in that case. Cigarettes are impossible for me to smoke in moderation.

Badkitty, your guy obviously should not smoke the shit, and you should tell him to get lost.

I am a smoker, and have been for years... I only like to after I get home and I am staying in for the night..... Almost like when someone comes home and has a beer.. I don't need to smoke alot, or smoke the shit that will put me in a coma, just a little something to relax....
I love to do different type of art, and I like a little before I sit down to work on something...Most of our friends and my husband doesn't smoke, when we go out to the bars to hear a band and such, they have a few drinks, and I go out to the parking lot.....

I hate to sound too judgemental but I can't stand pot smokers. They never remember anything I tell them, and They're usually unreliable. It's a dirty drug and I can never understand anyone that does it. It's not like it helps you become more social or anything. One of the DJs at my work is an open pot smoker, not at work, but he's always high and he's always messing up rotation and or forgetting what you tell him. And I'm sick of the arguement that alcohol is just as bad if not worse. Well, dugh! Any drug is bad. Any one that needs pot or alcohol to get threw life should just go to a doctor and get a real prescription. Everyone knows that drinkers and druggies are just self medicating themselves anyway.

I smoke occasionally- and by occasionally, I mean I'm one of those "once every few months" smokers. I have a severe panic disorder, paired with OCD, and as lame of an excuse as it is, if I've had a bad week with a lot of attacks pot can help me. It slows me down, makes my brain stop its incessant rambling, gives me a break. I'm on medication, but there will always be those few days where the meds don't work. I know it sounds stupid; I'm sure there are some of you who will consider this a dumb excuse to get toked up, or simply "self-medicating myself". All I know is that it helps me on the days where I can't stand to leave my house, and that I don't see any problems with this type of infrequent use as of yet.

Ya, smoked a lil pot as a teen, was ok in the company of my best friend, dizzy, laugh your head off, dry mouth, lethargic, eat dorrito's and crash like you pulled an all nighter!
Then, I started getting paranoid....not the EVERYONE IS OUT TO GET ME kind of paranoid, but the personal paranoia, am I breathing too loud? Can people hear how dry my mouth is when I talk? Did I take too long to answer that question? The incessant rambling trip in my brain, it was no relaxing thing anymore, I HATED IT.

I stay away. It smells good in the bag but burning it stinks and hurts my nose. I watch people slip into what they think is operation normal but to any experienced pot smoker can tell you - you aint acting normal and it shows. We are just to polite to point it out or plain old have dismissed you anyway in the moment.

I have a friend who smokes from the second she wakes up she's firing up a blunt. Says (cuz I ask) it keeps her level, so what youre saying is normality is a problem for you? She used to be on those paxil and weaned herself off but just smokes for mental meds. (yikes)

Not everyone smokes to feel normal, some do for fun and THAT I have no problem with but to smoke daily it just spells out your inadequacy to operate on a real level with the rest.

Thats my opinion (and thats all it is; my opinion)

LOL, I'll admit, I smoke pot.. and I smoke pretty regularly.. every other day or so. I hardly drink, and I don't drink coffee! <GRIN> Pot helps me relax after a long night. I don't smoke on the job, however, because it DOES affect my money. If I smoke on the job I will become very antisocial, and won't want to approach customers.

Interestingly enough, the first recorded reference to marijuana was by ancient Chinese doctors, who prescribed it for nausea and headaches. I don't need doctors, but if I did, I might consider this an approprate use, preferable to the untold myriads of legal (and often harmful and/or ineffective) drugs prescribed by modern equivalents.

A drawing I did for my best client, a commercial real estate developer, landed him a multi-million dollar deal, because the party involved liked it better than the others, in spite of the fact that the others were accompanied by substantially higher bids. This was not the first time this had happened.

I had used marijuana to lift my flagging energy level while working allnight on it (unlike when I am DJing--never high--I occasionally do this).

I am sorry, but the deaths, damage to property, and health problems directly attributible to alcohol, dwarf the corresponding figures for marijuana.

All this of course does not change the fact that some people smoke way too much of the shit...

Well, thanks to everyone for their honest answers!

Clarifyin some things....I HAVE dated people who smoke pot....I once dated a DJ I worked with, and he was so stoned ALLLLLL of the time. All he could talk or think about was smoking or getting "hiiiighhh" what a dumbass. He had such great potential, but he couldn't control himself, and people started thinking he was a loser. I can't date someone who does drugs because the drugs (in my experience) usually become priority number 1, and ""I"" need to be priority one!

I agree, the effects from alcohol (health problems, DEATHS) do seem more intense than those by pot...I men hey, cigarettes are still legal, and those are causing me health problems, and causing a rift between me and my man...but I am solidly addicted. I WISH I had never started.

I'm glad to see so many people that do not smoke, and are not afraid to let others know. Even though I chat occasionally with a few of you on here, for some reason I thought I would be bashed for my post.....

    Thanks,
    MissB

    Bashed? Oh baby NO!
We all have our opinions, right?

I am from the school of NOPE dont do it - thanks and move on. Medicated is medicated ----whether on THC or prescription drugs for whatever reason, anxiety tension etc or whatever is who ever's thing ...just not mine.

I dont judge those that do just wonder the motives. I mean a blunt the second your rub the grapenuts outta your eyes? WHats going ON in your head that you just cant handle/cope with on a straight level? Seems you need more help than weed.

If someone does it socially or on the occasion for whatever value fine you get yours LOL. Have fun, I could care.

Barring the extremes over comparison to any other drug we will just get into a statistics war over what does more damage therefore more acceptable isnt argument enough to sway my opinon.

To each their own. I dont usually interract well with those all fuzzed out - having not imbibed myself. Something of a gap there in communication - on the same level. Again MY opinion.

Canada is considerably more lenient on the stuff, hell we call Vancouver: VANSTERDAM. LOL.
If youre caught with some personal? You just get a ticket/fine.

Anyway - no offense intended towards those that do - I am merely stating I DONT. I dont hang with the "smokers" either (some clubs the girls openly light up in the dressing room, they seem to keep to their own....excluding those that dont toke - they are avoided - shunned even like its some kinda sorority.) And they do always seem to be on the lookout for the next baggie. The whole thing just weird to me.

    Yada Yada Yada.
In any event I hear you and concur.
Again just my opinion, is all.

There's a room in one of the clubs I work at where all the girls congregate to smoke up. Weed is pretty prevalent. I, for one, can't stand the stuff. The smell is wretched enough. Smokable things just don't get it for me. I've never even tried cigarettes. All my life I've been an athlete, and smoking decreases max lung inhalation capacity. Plus, I don't like the feeling of being really mellow.

pot is just as bad as cigarettes. i quit smoking cigarettes w/ the help of pot, there is more chemicals in a cup of coffee then there is in pot. i smoke it every night after work because its not addicting i don't freak out if i don't have it and its my velarian root, its natural and i think that it should be dicrimilized. i don't smoke before work because it does affect my motivation but its what i use to fall asleep after wrk. i think ppl should try it before they make statements such as the gate way drug , and its bad. there are worse things out there. as long as you don't make a habbit out of it its all good.

    I work at a hospital,
and that being said, i don't smoke pot. But would never knock those who do. I just stay away from it. Seen my share from kids just trying it, and adults who pay the price with their health.
Some it will never affect, others; pot is not so harmless in the way of ones behaviour.

    Default Re: Smoking Pot

I used to smoke every chance I got. As a teen I smoked almost all the time while out, then got on it constantly at age 21-22. I was smoking literally from the time I woke up til the time I was ready to crash. Funny thing though, I always had to stay up past the high, because I could never sleep high. So for about 4 months, I was sleeping til 5-6pm, lazing around the house all evening until time to go out and party, then come home with friends and smoke out til dawn. Of course, at the time I was living with a roommate who was the queen of all druggies. Little did I know that while I was smoking away with her (and she also used alot of coke on the side), that she was also sneaking around with acid and eventually heroine on top of everything else. After 4 months of insanity, I realized this wasn't for me (thanks in part to a very good friend who basically slapped me back to reality), moved into my own apartment and swore off weed. All this was BEFORE I started dancing, thank god.

I don't do the stuff anymore (used to smoke a little about twice a year), and I feel much better for it. Weed makes me paranoid, in the same way Leigh described, and it makes me exhausted and sleep all day after. I read a newsgroup ad for a roommate once, and the person listed all the types of people he didn't want calling, but at the end he wrote, "Pot smokers are welcome because they can't get up off the couch fast enough to skip out on the rent." I laughed my ass off when I read that, because it is just soooo right on! LOL

For all you smokers, if you think it's not addictive, you're fooling yourselves. It may not be physically addictive the way other drugs are, but it is mentally/emotionally addictive, which is just as bad if not worse. Sometimes I still want a good smoke, but I know what it does to me so I don't seek it out. I also don't hang around with people who use, so the temptation isn't there like it used to be. Besides, people on drugs are always wierded out. When I quit smoking and saw how absolutely weird stoned people behave, I was shocked and appalled at the thought that I might have looked like that.

Also the smell, smokers stink. Pot stinks and when you smoke, no matter how much you wash and hose on the cologne, others can smell it and it stinks. I can smell a stoner from a mile away. Not to be judgmental, because I don't knock anyone for smoking pot or using any other drugs - but I see so many users who are in trouble and so oblivious to what they're doing to themselves and how they're behaving, even if they use just a little. I think we all can use a good reality check sometimes.

So that's my view and I'm stickin' to it!
