Default Stripper, teacher, librarian?  Moving on.

I started working at a club as a waitress 3 years ago, right as I got my degree in elementary education. I took a waitressing job "until I got a teaching job". But, I became emamored by the the whole scene and decided to start dancing (more money than teaching anyway) without much thought to my future. Now I am thinking of hanging up my heels and moving on. I would like to apply for a position as a children's librarian at a local public library. What do I say I've been doing with myself for the past three years? Is there any way that it would show up on any checks they do that I have been a stripper? I have 2 kids so I could say I was just being a stay at home mom? And I have completed 15 graduate hous since then, but that's not much, doesn't really look like I am serious about furthering my education. So, I don't know what to do. If it wasn't a job working with kids, I'd prefer to be honest. But, around here, I know that no one would hire me for the type of position I want with this "history". I don't regret it (yet), but I'm just wondering the best way to handle this.

I just leave the stripper part off. Have you been doing any volunteer work or anything? You could say you were a stay at home mom, maybe say you were selling things on ebay or something.

Are you married? You could say you stayed home the past few years with the kids. Don't mention the dancing or waitressing in the titty bar. Lot's of women with kids take off work for several years.

Yes the stay-home mom is a good idea, as well as your part time studying. There is the possibility that someone could find out you've been dancing through their standard background checks, but realistically, unless you've danced in an area that uses entertainer licenses or been arrested, the chances of them finding out are slim to none. If you're not married you could say you were living with your fiance, or are getting divorced, or something like that. Selling things on ebay is a good idea, or any freelance online work such as graphics, webpages, etc. And if you have ANY friends in the straight world who could give you a good reference, use them. Just make sure you have a flawless story and don't get nervous when they ask you questions.

A good idea to help you get into interview mode is to apply for some other positions you aren't really interested in, go to the interviews, and get yourself used to the types of questions they will ask and thinking of how to answer. Then you'll be more prepared for an interview you really want to do well in. No one does well in their first interview or the first one in a long time, especially if you're used to strip clubs!

    Good luck!

Yes, I think you can relax, especially when you are applying for such a radically different position--it's not like they are going to make sure no strippers are applying---can you see it---"Have you reviewed the applicants? Good. Be sure none of them ever stripped."

The only thing you might have to worry about is your walk, that can be a dead giveaway. I can always tell. But then I have been in the business, and your future managers have not likely been.

Everything comes with a price. Read just about any thread on here about how we feel about customers and you'll see why!

People that don't do our job have no idea how hard it is on you emotionally. They only see the physical side, which is draining in itself.

Anyway, I'd like to get out of the business eventually myself and I totally understand since I'm steering myself twoards education too. Sometimes you want to feel like you're making a difference in someone's life!

Emily I wish you well and understand you exactly.

The industry is definitely not getting better, and will continue on its spiral downwards.

Especially with extras, prostitution, and the decline of the level of entertainment being of any value in comparison to such.

Theres still a few "hold outs" but.....

In any event, kudos and congrats.

ANd sometimes it isnt always about the money, comes a time you think how much aggravation for how much? Fuck it, back to 9-5.

Some people come to this quicker than others, but it does come.

    Yeah. I'm definitely getting there...

Djoser, the way we walk? Don't we walk different without the heels?

Djoser Go ahead and stir up a hornet's nest Y don't you LOL .

In Djoser's defence ( I'm trying to be there for you bro ), we as people in the industry really do kinda play a game. It's called "pick the stripper out of the crowd", nothing really bad, just maybe the look, the way they wear there makeup ( much better then say someone that only wear's makeup once a week or less ), the ability to distract the wandering eye. Say at the mall or at breakfast after close or a grocery store. I consider it more of an appreciation thing. I think the walk is more aggressive, sure footed, dominant. Not as in girl's walk different once they loose there virginity.

This is solely my opinion and I find myself doing it all the time. Kinda like I see a beautiful girl anymore and I don't think " wow I wanna piece of that " I think ..... " wow she could make us ( me and her ) alotta money.

As for the change of lifestyle, The only other factor I could see in the way of a permanent record ( why doesn't it surprise me that it wasn't mentioned ), is if you paid taxes while you worked. $50,000 a year with deduction's for the like's of makeup and 7" platform's and costume's and such, that is in the event that you where showing an income for those year's. Yet I don't see tax record's coming onto play for most job's.

Well, damn me if I ever meant to get anyone pissed off!

And I'm sure many a dancer has walked right by me without triggering my much-vaunted psychic (or not) powers of detection, especially if she left her 6" heels at home. But I can usually recognize the feline grace and sensual self-assurance, that they usually, if not universally, display.

There is this manner of walking, acquired by women who are confident about their sexuality and dancing ability. Personally, I find it to be charming, unless it is overplayed, as a minority of dancers are prone to do, probably because it makes them money while working.

Ahh, but we do have "adult use" licences (which, in order to acquire, you must go to the local police station into the office with "sex offender registration" on the door).

As for references, I think I'm OK. Two college proffessors, one of whom had me as her graduate research assistant, and my minister's wife, who is also the head of the education department at our Planned Parenthood. They will all give me excellent references and have written nice letters of recommendation for me.

Why do I want to leave stripping? It's hard. It's kind of like an addicton actually. Sometimes I feel like I don't really want to be doing this, and it is unhealthy, but I can't stop. But after a great night, I'm on top of the world. It was just something I always wanted to do, before I got too old. And I did it. And now I'm starting to feel too old. And I want to do something fulfilling, to help others.

Oh, I don't think anyone was offended Djoser, actually it makes sense. I get hit on a lot in my real life - and really, in rl I look like a mousy tomboy - several people have told me that it's just the way I move or the way I carry myself that's sensual, but not anything in particular that I do. So I went on this whole six month campaign where I tried to hold myself very squarely and look more confident and unsensual... and it only made it worse! LOL

So what you said makes a lot of sense. :-)

everything has its own advantages and disadvantages!
In general is it acceptable to do dancing (stripping) or going to SC as customer (honestly)? is it just the money and getting to know what is sexy is the advantage? i appreciate yur answers and attension!
