    Default Belly Dancing

Has anyone ever taken belly dancing classes? If so, have you used it on stage? I think that it would add a great twist to the average stage show.

I have - many moons ago as a civilian...I think we had this topic on another thread too some time back?

I took it for the sheer fun of it at the time, but yrs later when I started dancing I found I did use some techniques I learned in the bellydance classes!

You learn to isolate certain parts of your body to move independantly, neck, torso etc, and hips, so it did add a certain exoticness to movements especially the whole body roll undulating body movement,

I also use the obvious hip thing when I do my egyptian set...middle east type thing. Only in one song, too much of a good thing can get boring and look corny, so I just throw it in here and there as accent.

So take the course if thats what you are contemplating, above all I had fun at it, you may too!

Yes, i have tried it. (tried). Damn i dropped out. Too much for me. I can do some basics. But they get down. My belly muscles killed me! I probably practiced too much too quickly and it turned me off to it.

But i learned one great trick, anything swinging on your hips, low; Like say fringes or whatever is a good belly act. And a thick wide belt righ along your hips with feathers hanging while you swing is a belly dancing move.

I think the best part about Hula lessons would be going to Hawaii to take them
But, if a vacation is not in the forecast, why not grab a few girls, some wine, and....

    I LOVE BELLYDANCE
Have been the instructor at the university for 4 years now. had a funny just last week as one of my newer students danced like she had worked as a stripper. So at the end of class I asked her if she was an exotic dancer and hey its cool as I am. She turned every shade of red... She has the moves but not the mind set . it was really funny to see her sputter and stutter her denial.

If you can learn Tahitian dance your hips will swivel like they're on ball bearings. I would imagine the same is true for belly dancing.
