    Default Random details

    Two questions:

1)How do you guys protect your belongings from theft while you are at work (especially if you don't have a locker)?

2)How do you collect your money while you are on stage? Do you wear a garter belt? Garter belts are not quite flattering on me, so do you have any other suggestions?

Athena, I have been hearing more and more about clubs that don't have lockers, that has to suck! Can you put a lock on your bag?? Just a tiny little padlock and put it thorugh the holes on the zippers? Maybe it's not very strong, but it would take someone longer to get in. I used to take a roly poly (little suitcase on wheels) and I would put my money in a deep inside pocket. Maybe the housemom would hold it for a good tip?

Also, many of the clubs I have been to require the girls to wear garter belts because that is how the men give her money. If it doesn't look good on your thigh, I have seen some girls wear it around their ankles and heel. I don't necessarily like the look, but hey, I'm not you.

    Good luck,
    MissB

    Hi Athena,
i do alot of stage dancing, and have guys put money inside my shoe while it is on my foot, or i am down on the stage on fours, and they put money along side my g-string on my hip. I do wear sexy anklets, black velvet, and some will put money there as well. I have even bitten my tongue and opened my mouth for a nice size bill to go to my mouth YUK! I only do that on rare occasions. (germs) :o
Mainly though at the end of a sexy song i am down on the stage with my back arched and tits sticking up and lots of guys like to lay money on your body. Anyplace, they don't touch me, just put it where they want. Then i get in another position and, say all fours and guys like to lay bills across your ass (of course with your ass facing them!) There are many ways to recieve money with out contact. My shoes do a damn good job while my legs are moving slowly the guys way. A sexy garter though does help alot of women. But hell....i'll take it anyway i get it with out the contact.
PS and when i say they put money in my g-string, 'I' pull out the string for a bill!
    Lotsa luck, Pamela

Sorry about theft....with me security works fine. And you must tip them well for holding your money ect.

re: security: I second the little-lock-on-the-suitcase idea. I have a small suitcase with wheels I use for my dance bag, and while I don't bother to lock it generally (I haven't had anything stolen from my bag in a long long time, and most of my outfits are unique enough that I'd recognise them on another girl in an instant) I could easily put a lock through the zipper pulls.

re:money - I just brush my stage tips onto the stage during my songs, and move them to the back of the stage after each song, and keep the whole wad with me all night in a little purse. I don't like garters much either, and I don't think I'd like being required to wear one. Keeping all your money with you does require frequent cashing in of $1s, or the mess can get a little bulky to carry in a tiny purse.

Re: Theft. I have to go with the lock-on-the-suitcase idea, as well. Or, you could start bringing a foot locker to work that has built in locks - I've seen it done many times. Also, if you are going to leave somethign open, there is always the old "hair" trick. You pull a strand oh hair from your head or hairbrush and lay it across something in a way that is not obvious to others, but will indicate to you if something has been disturbed. Only problem is that it tells you nothing if something is actually taken.

Re: Money. I've used a garter. I've worked places where you turned it in to the bar after each set (actually they had a system worked out that saved girls SOOO much trouble). I've kept in it a small clutch that went with me everywhere. Just don't ever leave it unattended anywhere. And if you trust any other employee there enough to hold your money when it isn't the "SYSTEM", make sure to count it WELL before handing it to them, and keep a running tally of how much you should get back when you ask for it to be returned to you.

Yup, we don't have lockers ,either! Thankfully, I've never had anything stolen, and though -lock on the suitcase- is the best route to go - none of the girls have anything taken from their bags - however girls have left their money out while doing something and POOF it's gone.
Actually, one night I caught a waitress using my cellphone - she made a 30 min call on it! The absurdity of it all! So I suppose that is stealing, in a sense. From now on i code lock my phone.

As far as my money, i keep it on a garter wrapped around my wrist , held in a rubber band, and tucked. I've never lost any money, and can feel/see it on me at all times. Some girls use the clutch, but I'm afraid I'd get too forgetful to do that! If i keep it on my leg, the garter it gets too heavy and falls down by the end of the night, and also it's annoying when giving table dances b/c it is in the way of hitting the guy on the leg, etc.
The ankle thing is also an option, though the look can be silly, and I've known 3 girls who've lost money by keeping it there.

a clutch is a little purse without a shoulder strap. technically, it's a particular style of purse, but I think we're using the word to mean 'little purse-thing you carry around with you'.

I have several, actually. I pick them up in thrift stores and the like when I'm out, and rotate them regularly as I get bored with them. I also give them or loan them to other girls at my clubs, usually new girls who don't really think about the where-to-keep-the-money thing before they start dancing. I usually spend less than five bucks on a purse for work. The one I'm currently using I actually got free with a british fashion magazine months ago, and it's rectangular (about 8x4 inches, I think..) with a zipper along the long side and a wrist-loop to hold it by. the loop is about ready to snap, though, so I'll have to dig out another one soon. I aso have a really obnoxious neon pink plastic thing with a huge spider on the flap covering the opening I got for halloween, and I like it so much I use it occasionally... usually when the bartender who is scared of spiders is working. also there's a fuzzy black and white lepord print one (which has a shouder strap, which I don't like much, so I'm going to shorten it one of these days...) and.. uhm.. oh, I'm sure there's more in my dance bag. My makeup box is a _nightmare before xmas_ coffin-shaped tin with a handle, and I've been known to dump out my makeup and use that if somehow I can't find my purse in the dance bag before I have to go out to the floor, or loan it to another girl who's minus a money carrier that night. right around the holidays and around prom time you can find neat little beaded ones in regular stores, and if you can find them on sale they're pretty cheap.

I don't like the idea of keeping my money on garters, not only because I don't like garters much, but because I don't like the idea of the whole club being able to see how much money I'm making that day. if I'm doing well, I don't like people being able to estimate how much they'd be able to steal from me, and if I'm doing poorly I sure don't want to advertise it!

After being ripped off SO many times, including having a locked bag cut into, I adopted the rule of ALWAYS carrying every dollar with me in a small clutch purse all night long and only parting with it while dancing onstage (leave with DJ and extra tip to watch it like a hawk). Stuffing money inside thigh-high boots works just as well. But what does NOT work well is leaving your money exposed in a garter even if it is secured by a rubber band. The reason - club customers see you carrying around a wad of bills (even though they may be mostly ones) and figure you're making beaucoup bucks so they don't need to tip you at all or as much.

I would keep my money in a clutch. Wherever I go, my money comes with me. While on stage I place my clutch in an obsure corner where I can keep my eye on it at all times.

About your stuff, I used to just bring in what outfit I was wearing for the night and my personal items were kept in a make-up box that I put a lock on.

Dammit, a garterbelt has straps to keep your stockings up, a garter is a band that goes around your legs - sorry, I'm peeved by the misuse of lingerie terminology!

I haven't lost money on the floor before and have used about every way there is to keep it on me - tucked into a garter wrapped around my ankle, secured by a rubber band on a thigh garter, and in a small purse. I think these are all good ways to keep an eye on your cash, but the purse is certainly the most unobtrusive and nicest.

As far as your other belongings, I would recommend finding a hard-sided suitcase w/lock. I suppose someone could still run out of the club with it, but I surely hope you aren't working anywhere that bad! That's such bull that there aren't lockers; I would really ride management about that. I haven't ever worked anywhere without lockers and I would be nervous about my stuff all night long if I worked somewhere without them.

alot of girls where boots and keep the money inside the boot. just a thought. if you are going to use a garter make sure you secure the money with a elastic band around the money and the garter. good luck.

At the club I work at some of the girls have sticky fingers (especially if you are new). One girl had her bag cut open!

I have a rolly bag but it's made out of hard plastic so no one can get inside of it.. My money I keep on a garter around my ankle.

I have been considering dancing, but have been trying to think of everything before I started. Thank you all - this has helped a lot. I had been wondering how to avoid theft, the best ways to keep money, etc. Thanks again and good luck to all of you.

Where I have worked, most of the girls carry purses or small boxes with them for money, cigs, phones, ect...I am lost with out my box! As far as when you are on stage, I have used a garter for receiving tips or just taken them with my hand and hold them folded in half and bent around my middle finger. I do not like to throw dollars on the stage because I might slip on them.
I also only bring a few outfits to wear that night, so I would notice right away if something was missing.

My style is to keep my money folded in my garter on my ankle. To me it feels safer because I can feel it at all times. I don't do the purse/clutch thing cuz I'm too paranoid to trust someone else with my money while I'm onstage, or to leave it in the corner. It makes me nervous to leave it anywhere I cannot see it. With my luck some random customer will skulk over and snag it from the dimly lit, unobtrusive corner when I'm not looking.

If u have a soft small bag then someone may leave with it. Most clubs are way too nice for that, but I have worked at upscale gown clubs and have had a new girl come in work all nite and not make any money. Well, another girl was bragging about how much she was making. This girl had a plan: She said she was leaving and had the bouncer bring her car up to the front, she put all her clothes on and sat down next to the other girl while she was getting dressed and chatting her up. The second the girl bent over and had only one shoe on, this girl pushed her over snatched her purse so hard the strap broke and snatched her dance bag off the floor then made a mad dash out the door and jumped in her car and pulled off.
All kinds of things happen so just be careful.

A lot of the costume people make little bags in matching material to their outfits. The bags are small, and have little elastic cording on the top, so most girls slip them on their shoulder and they only hang down about to your armpit. I keep mine in my locker or in my car. Mine is in a little case that you would never look for money if you went in there, and so far noone has ever noticed where I put it. I follow NYCJac's little farce of it simply looking like i am having a snack or doing something else while I am actually stashing my money.
If u don't have a locker, I'd prefer to put my stuff in a manager's office. I don't like working like that. I worked at a club like that and they had like six cameras in the dressing room that recorded and a guy that watched them at all times. This club would come and ask you to pour a small amount of any liquid you brought in with you into a glass so they could smell it and make sure you weren't bringing liquor or anything in. That I did trust. A lot of other places I do not, so I guess you take your chances with the no locker thing unless you bring in a big hard case that would be too large or obvious if someone tried to take out.
