The LUSTY LADY in San Francisco, FATED to close is being saved by the dancers by going Co-op & will remain open.

Some of you will remember these article posted here a few months back, LUSTY LADIES SHUT DOWN & BYE-BYE BABY SF’S LUSTY LADY TO CLOSE DOORS .

The Lusty Lady the first and only unionized peepshow in America, see story LABOR ORGANIZING IN THE SKIN TRADE, TALES OF A PEEPSHOW PROLE LUSTY LADYhttp://www.livenudegirlsunite.com/story.html will remain open by the new management the dancers of the theater the Dancers worked out a deal for co-op!!!

Making it one of the few Co-op clubs by dancers in America. That's what theater management said when I checked up on it today. Earlier this month when I last asked at the club I heard the last check was supposed to be on 04/20/03 if they were to close. So I checked up, if they worked out the details with the building owner and the old owners of the club & they did and is open for business 24 hours a day. I asked if it was sure thing and he said yes.

This gives hope to other dancers at other clubs who have thought about doing the same, if their club closes or want to open their own club. Great news it's now owned by dancers. GOOD WORK GIRLS. KUDOS!!!

Thanks for the update. I actually caught LIVE NUDE GIRLS UNITE! last nite on HBO and watched it again. It is actually an interesting situation, and hooray for the ladies there for accomplishing their goals. I'm still an independent contractor and want to keep it that way.

Don't the lusty lady girlies get paid hourly?

If they do wouldn't they be better off working at a normal strip club?

Yes the lusty lady girlies get paid hourly? Some where around $20 and an hour give or take a $2. However they would also be entitled to unemplyment, disabilty benifits and other benefits.

Benefits are the key. People often don't take that into account enough when measuring salary. The union I work fro is currently leading a boycott against wallmart for doing exactly that. None of their employess get benefits... and they pass teh 15% savings onto you. I know they have cheap prices and products, but there is areason for that.

Nice to read about some girls who 'took the power back".

Plus being that it is a peepshow style place the dancers there do not have to deal with the full service trend that is so common in SF, this is probably the main reason the dancers are working there in the first place. think of it nothing but dancing for customers, no hustle, no BS maybe later lines, no watching for free crap.... and benifits to boot! Sounds good to me!

    Yea when dancing at Sanctuary,
i was an employee! I got paid hourly, plus had benefits. It was much easier work. Health/dental is soooo important.
But i could not have made as much money as an IC. But sometimes i thought the benefits outweighed the $$$.

I don't know how they are going to make cover cost and pay the girls. When it was serperately owned, and less money was going in, the girls were still getting paid by the hour. Now that its co-op they have to incur all those expenses and deal with a bad economy.

I went into there once for a novelty look with a few friends and that place didn't look like a money maker at all. In the entire 15min we were there I spent about 5 bucks in quarters in the booths. For me, it wasn't my thing watching a few girls behind glass lay around in a room( real hard to see if you have a bad angle in your booth). For my friend's cousin, it was worse as he walked into a booth with a guy taking care of himself(yuk). I guess the occupied light was broken or something. The only two people who got a really go show were my two friends, they went to booth together as they were chicken. They claimed the girls were really enthuiastic(sp) and were all over their booth.Hmmmm I wonder if two hot chicks in a booth instead of immigrant latino men all day gave them any motivation. All in all, no harm no foul, didn't pay any entrance and afterwards just went into Deja vu centerfolds across the street.

Mikimoto: I'm curious to know about the details of the co-op and how its doing.
    whats a PL to do?

going back to business 101, the total dollars going out the door cannot exceed total dollars coming in (or not for very long, anyway). I expect that those $20 an hour salaries will have to be adjusted downward significantly to cover the shortfall. Last time I heard anything on the subject, fixed costs to a small business of workmen's comp and other benefits averaged somewhere around $7 an hour ?

I wholeheartedly agree btw... The idea that a company has a vested interest in the death/dismemberment of an employee cannot make them want to clean up, improve saftey etc... plus it's just really creepy

    Hi everybody,
Yes, as far as I know, we are on the verge of signing the coop contract. The deal is for us to buy the place over a 3 year period by giving a percentage or fixed amount (whichever is larger) to the owners. I also heard that we are trying to negotiate a longer lease with Deja Vu.

I can't state the amount we are required to pay the owners per week, but it seems like a lot to me. At this point, I don't think we have even seen the books yet, so I guess the projections are based on rough estimates.

If the deal goes through, playday will be moved to May 15-18 from December! The fun thing about playday is customers will get to go on tours and see things like girl-girl shower shows, etc. Of course, I'll be there lap dancing for you too.

Melonie: Originally I made a wild guess and estimated that the dancer's base wage would be cut down to $15 or so, but when I asked, one of the girls told me that we would not get our pay reduced and we would only have to pay a $300 membership fee to the coop. I don't know all the details yet, but I'll find out this Sunday at the next meeting.

Nightrider: We do get paid a base salary for dancing, but for the private pleasures shows we get a percentage of the gross profits for the pleasure shift. Depending on the shift and how hard you work, the money can be good. Right now the new hire pay is $15/hr and the top pay goes up to $25/hr depending on how long you work there.

Tigerlilly: The dancing part is exactly like you describe it. The glass makes this the perfect non contact place to work. The only thing you have to be comfortable with is the customer masturbating in front of you. If you work the private pleasure booth, you'll have to hustle to get them in. Once they are in, they usually request masturbation or toy shows. Some girls don't like doing the private shows, but for me this is the best part of my job.

Brandi: We have a lot of girls from other clubs like The Hustler. It seems that a lot of girls like working at the Lusty to fill in their under performing time slots. Also, a lot of girls just like working here and having fun together. A lot of the girls like to socialize after work here too. Since there isn't any competition here, all of the girls are very supportive towards each other. I'm not sure that they would make that much more working at a typical strip club, at least not here in S.F.

Coolshot: visiting the Lusty can be a hit or miss event. I know, some girls just lay on the floor, but if you come there while I'm working, I always give the most erotic floor show you'll see anywhere(I'm usually in front of booth #3 or #11). A better way to enjoy the Lusty is to pick a girl you like from the photo board and come visit her while she is working private pleasures. Just come and see my private DP show and I'm sure you'll change your mind about the Lusty.

Kaiya, you said that the deal obligates you to pay a certain amount per month over a 3 year period. I would check the fine print and find out what your individual obligations are if you don't earn enough to cover this payment, if the club should be closed for other reasons within the 3 year period (like an accidental fire, court injunction etc). While this deal has the potential of working out very well, it also sounds like it might have the potential of working out disastrously i.e. having to pay the owner out of your own pocket or breaching the contract and losing your previous "investment".
