Default Other income opportunities for dancers ...

Continuing a comment buried in a thread below ...

I also spend an increasing amount of time doing WebCam instead of live dancing. This is a different sort of activity from a business standpoint, but most of the skills required are the same. You converse with "potential customers" either by text chat, internet audio or phone, you "entice" them to purchase a private show, and then you perform the private show with zero actual customer contact, but also zero laws restricting the content of the show. I use as my video chat host, but there are many other video chat hosts out there. Given that the earning potential is decent, that the initial setup expenses and ongoing expenses are low, that your schedule can be totally self determined etc. I don't even seek my own live dancing bookings any more. The only way live dancing pays better than WebCam after expenses are subtracted is if a club or agent approaches me with a feature booking offer including feature fee.

    Hi Melonie,

I had always heard that sites like Ifreinds are so flooded with girls that it's hard to make much money without a major advertising effort? Do you think that an average house dancer without feature credits can make much money doing webcam work?

Hi, I also have experience with the web cam. There is a good earning potential even though there is alot of competetion. I started out working on a local site which was paying 1.75 a min at the time, but now only pays 1.25. (and the customers were paying $6 a min) It wasnt hard to make $300 a day. There was alot of competetion, but most girls that i was competing against werent all that great looking, with the few exceptions. I mean they let just about anyone do it. So the good looking girls dont have to worry about competition so much. Also by working for someone, you work only for commission and spend your time in free chat and entice the guys to buy a show, which could really push your limits and you would get very annoyed by the constant begging. But I did notice that things really went down and money went way down, and i was having days i was happy making $125 towards the end, so i got out of it. Considering what you have to do, I did not feel that money was worth it and did not like handing over more money than i was getting while i did all the work.
The only way to really make money now is to start your own site and to link up with a network. You could do this along with dancing and get many customers to your site, but that depends if you are comfortable with having to see these people face to face and have them knowing where you work. Your site can be simple or elaborate..some ideas are some sexy half nude pics, a store where you sell items like your worn lingerie (trust me the guys ALWAYS want this stuff), a p.o. box address and what size you wear, things you like etc because you will most likely get gifts, and most importantly a page of your cam schedule and either the webcam chat on that page or a link to the site you will be doing it off of. Another site I'm looking into right now is Camgirlslive.com, you give them 60% of your earnings, but you charge whatever you like. Avg girls are charging no less than 4.99 for private, also there are group nude chats, where you have as many customers in there for about 3.99 a min each. so you figure you get 3 guys in there, you are making near $6 a minute and for half an hour you just make close to $175. not bad for not having to see the guys or any physical contact or tiring dancing. Also you will be getting customers who arent coming from your site, but who are just on the site your cam is on.
There is also a site Amateurranks.com, like a directory of webcams you can post your site on, and im sure there are a ton of ways to get traffic. Im in the middle of trying to do this all myself. I could go on and on but to make this wrap up, you can also do just phone off keen.com, there are many possibilities. But the hard fact is like anything else the money isnt easy but its there if you work for it. Some guys will just want to talk to you, some will want full on porn show with toys, depends. If you have any other questions id love to try and help, sorry so long

You're probably right about IFriends these days - there are something like 4,000 girls now offering IFriends WebCam and it's easy to get "lost" unless you have an outstanding visual feature, unusual WebCam content, or some outstanding credentials which will draw the attention of IFriends customers on the sample page. But as Ava points out, there are other WebCam hosts available where the competition isn't as stiff. But the trade-off is that IFriends draws something like 100,000 visitors a day = 100,000 potential customers, where the other WebCam hosts draw far fewer. If you have your own website traffic that can refer potential customers to your WebCam then you don't have to depend on the WebCam host's traffic as much. Obviously I try to take advantage of both the IFriends visitors and referrals from my own website.

If you guys want a better deal on the webcam thing go to www.videoboogie.com You don't pay anything for the equipment. They advertise for you and you get to set your own pay rate. Anywhere from $1.99-4.99 a minute. I've only been working for that site for about 2 1/2 months but you can make really decent money there. And the site manager, Mark, is really good at offering tech support in a timely manner if you have any problems with your equipment.

    Hey,
How do you girls deal w/ disclosing your income from the webcam stuff? Where this is not a cash business do you have to claim all of this income?

    Thanks,

Yes, all income from WebCams or Websites which is collected and paid out by a third party will generate 1099-misc reports to the IRS. This forces you to file a tax return with Schedule C - profit or loss from a business - where the income reported on the 1099's is listed as receipts.

The thing mentioned earlier about selling products, ie used underwear, etc. Not illegal, but I was reading on the Hustler news site or some dancer site, a chick was selling used underwear, old tampons, used sex toys, and similar items to guys to pay off tuition and credit card debt........well, a disgruntled customer who felt he didn't get his money's worth for period stained panties alerted the postal police who alerted the local police.
They charged her with sending unsanitary/biologically contaminated items through the U.S.Mail and she had to pay a hefty fine. I don't know, guess she should've used FedEX or UPS, huh So...............ladies please just be careful.

    Hi Ladies,
I do webcam when i feel like it for a great company. Also he has a bonus for the girl with most time spent on cam, and a new program giving out 300.00 a week for spending 6 hours with breaks of course on line. Lots more. Going on too! I have backed off webcam some now. Because it involved getting dressed up, and looking great! I do that at work and want to peel my clothes off when i come home. So i got to the point i was laying there chatting with a sheet over me, nothing else.
However...phone sex is a passion of mine. I LOVE IT!!! I know of many jobs that fit anyones busy schedule. NO pay up front, you name it. Alot of PSO owners are great! Pay is fantastic, because you build up a clientel.
I also work PT at a hospital 4 nights a week. ( my benefits job..lol) High stress.
So phone sex and web cam relieve me from dancing and hospital work. Being in person is more 'reality', phone and cam ....big time fantasy.
    Espeially phone sex.

Hi again , also i forgot. Alot of "Higher end" phone sex companies have stopped the selling of private items to customers. The company will be the one getting sued. We are independent contractors. And another, if anyone wants info one some good comnpanies i would be glad to help as an extra income for you when you are home. So many different types of companies and pay scales out there, alot of women make their living doing only phone sex. I do very well!!! It's easy and fun too. I have lots of tips and books on how to keep a long hold time on the phones! Like with web cam, i have a toll free number that pays for itself when i get my pay. It depends what a person is looking for. And what fits her scheduel. They are my other in comes. Ooooops...i breed shepherds too.

    Valued Advisor,

Happy New Year to all advisors in the Adult Category! We wanted to let you know about two major improvements that we'll be launching next Wednesday, January 15, 2003 -- both aimed at improving your callers' experience on the site by making it easier for them to find exactly the advisor they're looking for and leave feedback after their call.

We've made these changes based on careful evaluation, user testing and advisor feedback. As always, our primary goal is to give our members the best possible experience while offering all advisors on Keen a fair and competitive marketplace, no matter when you joined.

Improved Category Page designed to increase Keen Calls
Today, members who browse from www.keen.com to the Adult Category first land on a general category page. Our research has found that many visitors, new members and experienced Keen users alike, have found this page confusing and not specific enough, since the listings displayed there generally come from numerous topics within that category.

Next week we'll be launching our new Category Page, which will include a link to the top-rated available advisors; any given customer's list of favorite advisors; special promotions; three Featured Listings at the bottom of the page, and the topic links that are already found on the left side of the page.

This new Category Page will offer:

A better overall customer experience: Our testing made very clear that most Keen members found this new page more interesting and engaging than the current page, and were able to find the specific advisor they were looking for a lot more easily. The result will be an improved customer experience that leads the right customers to you -- the ones who will call you again and again!

Increased conversion of visitors to paying customers: The improved design will also display our promotional offers more prominently, which should result in even more visitors joining Keen. Each Category Page also will be customized for specific customers who want certain types of advice.

A fairer marketplace: Now all advisors on Keen, new and old, will have an equal opportunity to be part of our new promotions by bidding into the Featured Listings on that page. As always, our primary goal is to provide our advisors with a fair and competitive marketplace, and to make it as easy as possible for you to market yourself and grow your business on Keen.
New Leave Feedback page will make it easier for members to rate your calls
We've heard it loud and clear from both you and your customers: leaving feedback has been too complicated, which meant that not enough calls were being rated.

To solve this problem, we've designed a new Leave Feedback page which will let members see, and leave feedback for, any call they've made in the past 90 days which they haven't yet rated (after 90 days, they'll still be able to leave you feedback via their Account Details page).

The new Leave Feedback page will be reachable from the member's home page, My Keen, and My Favorite Advisors pages. This great new page will make it much easier for your customers to leave you the great feedback that can help you grow your business on Keen.

We hope you like these great new features -- but, as always, we're counting on hearing your feedback either way. Write to us at Keen Adult Team.

Thanks again for being a valued advisor on Keen!

LikeMelanie I've been doing the cam thing for like 5 months now, and find it a hell of a lot easier than working in the bars. I also work on IFriends, (which does have 4,000 girls or so, very comretitve), and also Tricams which is pretty decent..It has been pretty slow lately, have tried both night and day hrs. and have seen day seems to be a little bit bsier right now.Melanie, what hrs. seem to work for yo?Do yo know any other decent cam site to work for?I might go back to dancing 1 or 2 days a week for xtra income, don't really want to..I went to Delilahs in Toms River, and all they need is dayshift girls right now, whcih I really don't want to do. Anyone have any idea how dayshift is down there Really appreciate any advice...

I've tried all different hours and days on IFriends. I have found that my most lucrative nights are mondays and fridays. I also start at 4pm EST, which is 9pm in western europe and 10pm in central europe. My guess is that monday night is the first night that the "married" customers are on the road again after a weekend with the wife and family. They've probably done a lot of travelling and are too worn out after dinner to attempt hitting clubs (which they will do tuesday night!), so they log on in their hotel room and hit IFriends for an hour or two. My guess is that friday is "geek night", when guys who don't have much of a social life attempt to start their 'weekend' by chatting on IFriends (since there's not much hope they'll be dating!). As far as webcam hosts go, unless you already have your own website and fan following that you can bring with you to a different webcam host who has less traffic of their own, IFriends can't be beat 4,000 webcams or not.

I've pretty much stopped doing the club thing in the NYC/NJ lately since business gets so slow there this time every year - I'll start my road trips again to this area after Memorial day. The only hopeful news I've heard about in this area is that the Squeeze Club in Weehauken is under new management and is going to reopen soon after remodeling is completed. They'll need a full staff of dancers on all shifts.

I would like to say webcam work will not bring in near as much as dancing. But it is fun and if you like being in front of a cam, and can be creative, you can make some money. ANY site you go to right now is not booming. Cam work is down some.
But if you think you need to be a beauty queen (she is pretty and knows the system well) your wrong, just check out TastyTracy on She kicks ass in privates, if she is on, she is in a private 95% of the time.

Pamela when I read this I thought that you might be familiar with the site I work at as well! Tracy does great and she's not a typical beauty but she's got regulars as do I. Unfortunately I retired for a while but I'm back at it now! SexxyEyes.com seems to be another cam site I'll be checking out and now I have a few more! I tried Ifriends and didn't do well at all bc of all the girls. I"m glad I did find this board too bad us cam girls dont have the same thing that I can find! Business got slow with the economy and I keep a 'real' job just in case. The only thing weird was running into other chat girls when I started out in a studio (I can relate to feeling exploited there). At my 'real' job I worked with all guys at a net cafe....*sighs* eventually it happened and the guys started visiting the site...weirdness! I don't think it fell under sexual harrassment either. Oh well...thanks for the outlet even if I'm not a dancer. I just hate people touching me so cam works out better.

Yea Becca, Tracy brings in the $$$ just for close up beaver shots!!!
I do know Mark, he is great.
One very important point to remember, guys know ALL the cam sites. Not just...Say videochat or icucams. They troll around. Who does not know of ifriends or tricams. Your thousands of lurkers there are also on alot of other sites. The great thing about Marks site he has 4 or 5 hooked up to his one, and alot of guys can be watching you with out logging in a user name. Then some one takes you pvt. and you never seen his name. But as soon as he types he pops in you chat window.

I like the feeling of not knowing how many are watching. It's great. Different twist to cam.

And i have noticed that on other sites you have to register just to chat, you are a number (IP, no doubt), and the girls don't really want to bother, because you are not a member that has signed to ..maybe pay. That is a turn off for a guy who just wants to check out the scene. Jump in quick, check some out kimnda thing.
Lots of guys come from ifriends, because they say it's just too busy. Bigger does not mean better, in webcam!!!

I did the webcam thing for a few months, thought I'd take a break from dancing just over a year ago, it wasn't so great. I ended up going back to dancing. More money in dancing no matter how you look at it. And even though webcam is no contact, I did get tired of the guys begging for freebies and some of the requests were too much for me. I worked on Ifriends at first then adultlivenetwork.com. Unless you do the setup yourself, there is little money. Everyone else takes such a huge cut that it wasn't worth the hassle. I think if you got in on the internet business years ago before all the competition, that's where the real money was. These days, it's nothing to brag about.
I've noticed to that people say "how can you dance with all those perverted guys that come in the club?"......after working online I found all the REAL perverts are online, not in the stripclubs.

I absolutely agree about the pervert factor on webcam being astronomical! You would not believe some of the weird shit that guys have asked me to do in front of the camera in private video chat. But the redeeming factor is that there's zero chance that customers are going to touch you. These days in many clubs, contact levels necessary to earn decent money are getting uncomfortably high, at least in regard to my own personal comfort zone.

Another 'secret' in earning serious money from webcam is limiting the $$$ or percentage that your video chat host is collecting for themselves, leaving a greater share of the customer's money for yourself. On IFriends, the percentage kept by the host ranges from 50% if the private video chat customer discovers your webcam from IFriends general website traffic, down to 10% if the private video chat customer comes to your webcam from a link which you have provided elsewhere (i.e. your own website, an e-mailed link etc.) At least half of my IFriends customers are referred there by my own links rather than depending on general IFriends traffic, which increases my take-home pay significantly.

    Lol Lynn,
that free shots! It's too easy, ALOT of girls give free shots on cam all the time. Makes it harded for one who does not.
We have our share of pervs. all over it's just in real ife they will get locked up, on cam they can't for asking to see your pussy.
Ban is my feature, that i use alot. I have alot of regulars, but can't dedicate my time anymore. So they find another. I was big on shower cam. Now thats a seler, but tough.
Also outdoor backyard shots. Again tough. The majority of guys i attract, will go pvt. and just talk. They like paying for conversation. It's like phone sex! Hmm.
Takes all kinds. But hey when it's going around for free, i can't really blame them for asking. Ask me twice, after i say no, your banned.
Web cam just does not sell anymore, everyone and their neighbor is doing it. And strange crap. Fun for kicks, and to talk to guys when i have the time. I get 3 pvts off the bat, then i have to hustle for the rest. It's can be had, it's just i hustle at work, i don't want to come home and do it too, so i just chat, and sometimes not show too much, and they take you more often it seems. Guys love a nice personality on a woman o the comp. They are lonely. I have no prob. if they are nice.
Got to go to work! Pamela

I work on SexxyEyes.com sometimes, they pay you 60% of you earnings and up.
    61% $250
    62% $500
    63% $750
    64% $1000
    70% $1,500

SexxyEyes.com is the only site that I know of that does not require you to sign over all rights to any archive pictures, video, etc. Some how they seem to attract a higher quality of paying customers. But it gets dead on there. I promote on my personal website when I'm doing shows and buy my own traffic.
