I have recently answered a topic with a post warning dancers of the problems to be encountered when dealing with foreign visitors to U.S. strip clubs.
The post specifically targeted natives of eastern regions "starting about, say, Italy", and went on to describe an incident which occured some years ago, in the vicinity of Turkey, involving a Turk, an American co-ed, and my father.
The story is true, and, I believe, amusing...
However, I have realized, much to my dismay, that someone of Turkish descent might not agree.
Not to mention it had only an indirect and dubious bearing on the original topic.
For that matter, the post as a whole might easily offend anyone whose racial origins could be traced to anywhere east of, say, Italy...
And also their friends, lovers, or anyone inclined to an open-minded outlook on such matters in general--a category in which I have always included myself, believe it or not!
Having dealt with extremely unpleasant individuals of all racial/ethnic/religious origins in a professional capacity, I can categorically testify that Anglo-Saxons have no monopoly on civilized, enlightened, or generous behavior.
And while I condemn the notion that women are to be viewed as commodities, to be bought, sold, or traded; which many foreign cultures encourage (and would also advise any American woman traveling alone in the Eastern hemisphere to exercise extreme caution), I have also encountered similar and most disagreeable attitudes in the U.S.A., from individuals of Anglo-Saxon descent.
I have recently written a letter to an Iraqi friend of mine, who is returning home, literally begging him not go back, only to be drawn into the atmosphere of hatred and violence we are dealing with at this very moment.
My aunt married a native of Turkey, her son--my favorite cousin--is half Turkish, and a gentleman in every sense of the word.
Enough--I only wish to apologize to anyone I may have offended with my thoughtless remarks and crude humor.
