SP -- (and all of the annoying "trolls" who pop in here) --

Stripping is show biz, pure and simple. When Nicole Kidman or Helen Hunt or any other Oscar winning actress (gawd -- even Julie Andrews) peels in a movie, do you give them sh-t or just admit that it's part of show biz?

Sure, I'll be the first to admit that stripping in a Gentlemen's club doesn't have NEARLY the same status as appearing in an Oscar winning movie. For that matter, performing Hamlet in a supper club doesn't carry much status, either. However, it's still show biz, bub.

(What about an avant garde Hamlet in the nude?)

Lots of art is done naked, by the way. Heck, even the Church venerates nude paintings and sculpture. Many of the great movies and plays feature nudity.

In short, SP (and all like you), quit giving us s--t. We don't deserve it.

Clarity, you will need a license to strip in most Houston clubs. St James is outside the city limits so you don't need a license there, but that club is famous for its PRIVATE dance booths, where anything and everything happens all the time. Tina is right that not all Houston dancers are doing extras, but I gather that she hasn't danced there in a while and that things have changed quite a bit since she left. I remember posts from Tina a while back saying the reason she was travelling up north to dance was because of the increasing extras activity and customer expectation in Houston clubs. For plenty of info on Houston clubs and customer attitudes, go to , click the links for reviews, Houston strip clubs, and read what pops up. Alot of the discussion is restricted from viewing to paying and/or CERTAIN members, so that should be a clue right there, but even so, you can get the idea very quickly with some of the posts. We had a poster here recently who said that 80% of dancers in Houston are doing extras.

Then go visit some clubs. Look at what goes on during dances, and understand that what happens in Houston during a lapdance is apparently NOTHING compared to what happens during a session in VIP. Also, many guys in Houston won't even buy a dance unless they know you to be a 'player' or they think they can 'convince' you to 'play'. There are some posters here who have stated such over and over.

I'd say, that if you're only interested in making ends meet because you are out of work in your regular field, you MIGHT be ok dancing in Houston but it will be very very hard for a newbie who isn't willing to play the extras game. You won't make anywhere near what you hear about dancers making, but you could quite possibly make enough to pay the bills until you're able to get another job.

You need to really think about what you're getting into. Many women get lost in this business and most canNOT handle it. It is HARD and brutal. The only way for you to get any sense of it before you start is to simply visit some clubs and watch. Go with a male friend and don't drink alcohol - watch stone-cold sober (buy soda or something) and see if you think you can deal with it. Then tip some girls a few dollars and ask them about how they like it, how their business is, etc. Just don't ask them outright about any illegal activity because they will think you're a cop and clam up.

Come back here and post what you discover after visiting a few clubs a few times. Then we can give you more advice and perspective.

    Good luck!

Leigh, I wouldn't go so far as to say the exotic dancing industry has been taken over ... yet! But it is an undeniable fact that dancers are increasingly on the "wrong end of the deal" both in regard to customer expectations in exchange for selling private dances (or not selling any while watching fellow dancers sell them left and right), and in regard to clubowners being willing to hire dancers at clubs with good earnings potential (or not hiring them if they aren't willing to "private audition" for the manager, if they don't measure up to the clubowners personal idea of how his girls should look etc.)

The sad part is that instead of seeing the Houston / San Francisco situation getting better for dancers, I see the situation in other cities getting worse!

I also have to be honest and state that from what I saw during my last trip to Houston (which will REMAIN MY LAST TRIP for a very long time) that a new inexperienced dancer in Houston who is unwilling to compete with other dancers in the extras department is probably better off applying at WalMart or MacDonalds in regard to relative income. Even a very experienced dancer like myself with some pre-arranged internet fan attendance at the Houston club didn't keep me from losing money on the trip because I simply couldn't sell more than one private dance to a customer unless he was a big boobs freak. Virtually every "normal" club customer expected something extra in exchange for buying a second dance, and even some of my Houston internet fans expected the same! (which I did not deliver).

Following the same principle, a new Houston dancer who will not play the extras game will, like me, sell one dance per customer when she first starts dancing. However, unlike me, she will return to the club the following week and find that regular club customers, waitresses etc, have put the word out that this new girl doesn't "deliver". This will mean the new girl won't sell any dances at all to regular club customers in her second and future weeks, and that waitresses will be directing customers to other dancers when asked for a recommendation. At this point the new girl will virtually be wasting her time in regard to club earnings. Fortunately, Houston tipouts are bargain basement low, so there's not much chance that she'll actually LOSE money when the tipout exceeds her earnings, as can happen in clubs in other cities where the stage fees and tipouts are significant.

I recently danced at St James in early January. it's still the same as it always has been just a lot of girls.

I had some customers who remembered me from 7 months before who bought dances from me this time.

There is just so much competition there with so many girls.

We can get hung up on extras too much here. even if every girl had sex on her menu, there are not enough customers with that kind of money to spend to patronize every dancer.

Too many girls is the problem in the Houston clubs. If you had 1 dancer for every 7-8 guys you could make good money there by just giving good dances because the average per customer spending is higher there. The guys that do spend money there spend $100 or more on one girl.

Last Saturday the club I worked at in a town of 15,000 people in South Dakota had 7 dancers and about 60-70 customers including 2 bachelor parties. I cleared $536 plus my $50 club pay. $200 of it was fives and ones from stage tips. You don't get that type of attention in Houston. I have worked more than a few Saturday nights in H-town and left with under $50.

Just get hired there and see for yourself. Then post back here after you've worked a week and let us know how you did.

Also, another problem in Houston is that many of the better clubs thrived on the out of town travelers. They would be happy for a good contact dance and some company and pay well for it.

With less out of town travelers now, you get more local patrons who "know the ropes" and those are the ones who will buy 1 dance to "try you out" and local regulars can't afford to spend several hundred dollars each time they hit the clubs so some visits they just sit and nurse their drinks and enjoy the free buffet.

Is Houston still like that? I'm considering getting in to strippipng and I want to move there, but if at the end of the month I'm going to lose money, I don't even want to try to make it there. The farthest I would ever go, as far as extras go, would be letting the guy touch my breasts. I wouldn't ever let a guy finger me! And I would never give a guy a blow job either! That's disgusting! I know a guy who knows a stripper there and she said she had to give it up for a while because she'd leave the club (Gold Cup) owing money and this wasn't all that long ago, really. I think, on my next visit to Houston (which should be fairly soon) I need to get in to the clubs I was considering and scope things out. I'd still like to know any information anyone has about the current situation in Houston (laws, cash, etc). Please and thank you.
