If you were going to dance throughout a raodtrip, where would you put the money that you earned? Assuming that you were making more than you were spending & that there were no banks that you had accounts with around.

Never explain yourself to anyone, because the person who likes you doesn't need it and the person that dislikes you won't believe it.

Leigh's suggestion is good - you could wire it back to a TRUSTED friend or family member, or to your own bank back home. I used to stay on the road dancing for weeks and months, and always just kept my money with me. Of course I was quite a bit younger and more naive, and really lucky!
Another thing I have done when away from home is buy money orders and mail them with my account number to my bank at home. I have kept checking accounts with debit cards working in the US like this for months after coming to Puerto Rico. If you have any type of bank account, just call them and ask for their address to mail your deposits to, then be sure to write your account number on the memo line of your money orders when you get ready to send them. Your bank can tell you exactly how to do this to ensure the funds get credited to your account.
Good luck and happy trails!

The money order idea is great - particularly if you mail it to your home address. But remember that due to the new anti-terrorist money laundering laws any purchase of money orders of $1000 or more in the same place on the same day will generate a cash transaction report to the government. Similarly, "wiring" money via Western Union or AmEx, or even mailing money orders for deposit by your bank will also generate a transaction report. This is no problem if you declare 100% of your earnings and if you pay state income tax to every state you dance in, however if you tend to be more "cash oriented" you may want to think twice before creating official records of significant money order purchases, wire transfers or bank deposits.

I dance on the road for several months at a time. I have Bank of America and Wells Fargo checking accounts and there is one of them or both everywhere I work.
Realistically, after the bills and rooms get paid, I have never had more than $5000-$6000 and I keep that with me. I never deposit more than a few hundred dollars over my bills in the bank. I personally do not believe in keeping all of my money in the bank.
The problem is that dancing money isn't as great as it sounds nowadays.
Where are you planning to work? Find out what chain banks are in the areas you will be in and open accounts with them.
This may sound funny to you, but I would not worry about where to keep your money. Just focus on making all you can and where to "keep" it will come to you.
You can always Fed Ex or mail a money order deposit to your bank also if you are not near a branch location. You can do this weekly.
Always keep less than $10,000 in a bank account. Lesser amounts are not reported to the IRS but to me it is a pain in the ass to have to provide ID and get scrutinized should I want to withdraw a large amount. I convert my bills into hundreds and you can easily stash more hundreds than you can earn with your belongings. When traveling I keep this in my jeans pocket not in the car or my purse.
Tina, I'm about to go cross country and have been wondering what to do about depositing cash. Thanks for your suggestions, very helpful.
