Default Does lots of makeup make more money?

Hey y'all I'm REALLY curious about something... I don't know if there are a lot of girls like me who change their "style" a lot at work, because most of the girls at my club don't, they just stick with one makeup/hair theme and that's all I ever see. However there's days that I go all out: big fake eyelashes, lots of eye shadow, blush, more dramatic lipstick (as I'm very good at makeup I can pull it off, but I still have the heavily made up look)... and then there's days I just feel like putting some flowers in my hair a little powder, mascara, and forget the rest. Honestly what do you think earns more money? The magazine model pinup look or the girl next door? Maybe I should do an experiment, but I'm really curious to know the general consensus on this.

I have learned along time ago from past bf and customers that men don't like lots of makeup.
So i play with the hair, (never hairspray), and costumes.
I myself don't care for the look of a heavily made up dancer. (reminds me of the whole Liza stage makeup thing).

I wear lipliner with same colour gloss, eyeliner, (no shadow), brown mascara, and curl my lashes. But...me doing stage shows alot in one evening, i will sweat off foundation and blush.
Gosh i think it's kinda sexy feeling with pieces of hair sweaty and on my face. Makeup on my face would run and make lines.

PS i wear more at the hospital, being in cold AC. But dress different so it's an ok match. I do like natural more.

I too wonder this and I have tried to go more natural but end up back in the dressing glammin it all up again!
I love the glam, simply adore it. Even just for me!
Some guys love a natural look though too- I know from your pics you could go without a stitch of makeup on and still bank.
    you are sooooooo pretty!!

I guess its all how you feel.

I love my make up I love putting it on, I love glamour, I am very much *not* the ivory soap gal though hahahha - I cant pull off minimalistic without feeling I am not putting my best foot forward.

It depends totally on what sort of "persona" you're trying to accomplish. I ALMOST always went for the "school girl" look, so very little makeup. Other girls, however, go for the vamp look or the harlot look or the Madame Dominatrix look, and all of those really DO require a lot more makeup.

A quick tip. Most clubs are fairly warm (THANKS!!!) so you can build up a sweat pretty quickly if you're not careful and not in great shape. That leaves your makeup looking like s--t pretty quickly. Thus, if you DO want to wear a lot of makeup, you're going to have to check it pretty regularly.

Also, don't try to get too subtle with the makeup. Remember -- it's a dark room. We're in the theater business.

I'm more reluctant to ask for private dances with ladies who have heavier makeup and darker lipstick on. I don't want it on me. Just a thought. Same with perfume, for that matter.

I, too, would think it depends on the persona you're representing. Why not give it a try one night? You can always duck out the back and apply more if it's not working.

For me the classy, refined look works best. Some shaping blush, exotic eyes, lip liner and gold lip gloss. I have people tell me that they love my "natural" look LOL If you can't see the damn freckles then it isn't natural!

But I think unless you have a particular feature that your playing up you should avoid heavy make up..

I've always used just enough face makeup (concealer, powder, blush, etc.) to make my complexion look flawless but not pancake. My biggie is eye makeup. My eyes are the feature that I tend to play up a lot more than anything (they are a light blue color), so I go minimalist on everything else. It is really hard to pull off dramatic make up on your eyes, face, and lips all together. Too often girls end up with the drag queen look when they try all of that. In fact, if I'm having a bad day or feeling down on myself, I'll go even more dramatic and colorful with my eyes. It's like I'm having a love affair with my eye shadow. You know, whatever works! Just always remember.... the key is to blend your colors!

On this note, I want to take a second to rant about a makeup pet peeve. I can't STAND when girls use dark lip liner/eye liner to line their lips and then fill in the rest with pale or clear gloss. It is such a severe effect and looks awful on pretty much everyone. Like I said before, the key is to blend. It is WAY to severe looking and such an obvious made up look that it totally detracts from any beautiful features that a girl may have. And, I couldn't begin to count the number of times customers have asked "What is that black/dark shit around here mouth?" The summation of how I feel about it was when I had a guy say "She looks like she's been sucking on someone's anus! She's got a shit ring!" Priceless.

The bottom line, though, about the question of more or less is that you should do your makeup how ever you feel comfortable. It you feel naked (good choice of wording for this web site, huh? )without heavier make up on, then wear more. If you feel conspicuous or ridiculous with lots of makeup on, wear less. Your mood and how you feel about yourself is ultimately what is going to be the major make or break concerning how much money you make.

I tend to play up the shape of my eyes by doing this sort of egyptian thing with blk eye liner and cream eye shadow. But it's nothing to awfully drastic at least I don't think so. I'm so very addicted to my black eye liner pencil. Most guys seem to like it but it's a little to dramatic for any sort of daylight activity so I use brown eyeliner instead. I can't leave the house with-out it!

I've never gotten the hang of fake eye lashes though and I wanna give it another go. Does anybody have any techinques? I need to be schooled in the art of fake lashes because with my luck I'll get em on and then I'll end up talking with a customer and blinking one of them right on off. How do you guys get them on and what kind are the most natural looking because I've seen some that are just huge!

Now that I'm off that kick I think that people should find a nice middle ground with their make-up and should only do just enough to enhance what they have and stay away from the caked on look because most guys think that if a girl is wearing to much make-up then she's covering up the fact that she is really just un-attractive. I've actually had guys tell me that they think this way. So even if the girl really is pretty if her make-up looks caked then they just think that she's wearing a mask that makes her appear to be attractive.

I think too much make up happens when a person uses make-up to entirely change the way they look. This is what creates the drag queen look. So you're safe as long as you just don't go there. Ya got to let a little bit of yourself shine through. But just remeber that no matter what ya gotta to strut !!!!!!

ANus ring? LOL thats harsh eh? hahaha!
I think that all started with the Pamela Anderson thing, dark pink or red lipliner and fill in with a slightly lighter lipstick or gloss. I have seen girls use brown eyeliner in there lips! what the hell? Thats not what is was supposed to be, but ah well to each their own. I tend to use a paler lip gloss and MATCHING liner in a neutral shade lip color in fact almost BECAUSE I play up my eyes so dramatically.

I have always read/heard that it is best to focus on one feature- example- dark lips with light eyes or dark eyes with pale lips. I pick one and do a light all day formula foundation and light dust on forhead and nose.Basicly if doing bright/dark lips I'll line and fill with pencil go over with lipstick and blot then dust trans. powder and tinny gloss in center of lower lip. Then lightly outline eyes and masacra. If dark eyes then nude lip liner and lipstick with lots of gloss. Or a rosey flush on cheeks and eyelids with little liner and mascaras on eyes and a pinkish lipgloss. I generaly try to bring out my lips more as my eyes stand out naturaly. I have a zillion lip colors

Definitely only play up one feature at a time. I always go with eyes because they are blue with naturally long lashes and tend to stand out anyway. I also have fairly full lips, so don't need too much there. I think it depends on the person, but we need a bit more at work than your average everyday look, but less than drag queens. I have alot of customers tell me they like my makeup because it's not overdone or I seem to wear less than many of the girls. In actuality, I wear just as much as most girls, but I choose colors that aren't too dark or bold for my face and coloring, and apply it in a way that doesn't look too made up. I have also gotten away from lipliner at all and just use a colored gloss. I get color tips from department store makeup counter and makeup guys in clubs. Ultimately, you have to do what makes you feel most attractive, because that is what gets the most attention. If you feel sexy it shows and you could practically wear a potato sack and be attractive as long as you FEEL sexy.

I personally avoid less or more plain-styled make up. On me, it looks odd. I look more tired when I wear simple makeup, and/or neutral colors. I dont go as bold as I used to in NY, it doesnt work as well here in FL for me. I guess it depends on the clientele. Some looks are more popular in some areas than in others... but you can always comprimise and go half way. Stay how YOU like it and still kinda work with what THEY like.

Thumbs up Re: Does lots of makeup make more money?

I'm one of the only girls in my area that does their make up pretty dramatic. I get compliments from all the girls and customers. The owner of the bar has pleaded with me do some of the girls make up before, complaining that the girls need to stand out more. You really need to know how to apply it right and using the right colors. blending blending blending. I'm very big on dark eyes. My eyes are always done in black shadow and liquid eye liner. I often wear dramatic fake lashes as well. I say that you NEVER EVER EVER wear dark eye make up with dark lip stick. This is what makes you look like a clown. I wear a very nude glossy lip gloss. With a nice tan bronzed glow, dark dramatic eyes can make you look fabulous. You have to think about the look or style your going for. Ever since I was a little girl I was always impressed by hott bombshell fake barbie like girls. Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra, Etc. Bleach blondes with dark eyes really stand out. Or you can look very mysterious with dark eye make up if you have dark hair. Guys could mistake your race for 20 different nationalitys. (Greek, Latin, Italian, Arabic, etc etc).I guess only some girls can pull this off. But as from experience my eyes has made guys remember me from different clubs all around Detroit. If your trying to pull off a sweet, innocent, school girl look...this wouldn't be right for you. I think the biggest problem with dancers is that they don't stand out from the rest. I find many girls at my club with hardley any make up at all, and just a really plain look. How are guys going to remember you? The best dancers I have come acrossed over these 3 years were the girls with the unforgettable style. Find your look, your image, your style. Be unique. Transform yourself (hair, makeup, costumes) into the woman you want to portray when you walk into that club. Remember it's a fantasy land. Your an entertainer. Be creative and experiment. As for applying lashes, practice makes perfect. I remember the first 5 times I did it they looked horrible and felt horrible. Keep applying them and you'll get the hang of it.

I love the way our make-up artist does make-up.... I get tons of compiments and when you keep in mind that I compete with a 100+ girls a night, its nice to stand out. Not to mention it doesn't wear off ( she sometimes airbrushes it) so I'm not in the dressing room reapplying it all the time.

I think a "lil' goes a long way.

So .. eyes but not that crap where it looks like you've been punched in the face

and a light liner on the lips with some gloss

Otherwise you look worn out ( the too much of anything isn't good . )

I noticed my pet peeves on pretty women are the heavey blue eyeshadow and red lips. think anna nicole smith. I think personally she has a beautiful face but it was hidden forever with that blue eyeshadow and redlips .

Another thing i can't deal with is the brownlip liner and FROSTED lips.

Lil goes a long way and lets your skin breathe. Where i work smoking is still premitted in the building, so that's bad enough. I say get rid of as much as you can as far as makeup goes..you'd be amazed how many will compliment on your complexion and how "natural" you look.

haha i just read above ..the mexican lip liner..

where i grew up it was called Puerto Rican lip liner..

But yes it's got to go... im adding that to the blue eyeshadow, red lips ( that ends up on their damn teeth by song 2 ) and people that can't drawn their eyebrows on correctly

I find that men tend to be pretty clueless in this regard.

I'd be wearing a TON of makeup, and they'd say, "You're so naturally beautiful. I love the fact that you don't wear a lot of makeup. Your skin is so perfect."

I'm far from beautiful, my face was an advertisement for Chanel and Lancome, and I've had skin trouble since I was a teenager.

Just goes to show, they're ready and willing to buy the illusion....

Always interesting to see an old thread exhumed and see if your answer two years ago is still the same today (it also tells me I've been here too long).

But in this case, yes. To both.

I wear a ton of makeup that looks like I'm wearing very little when I get on stage. The lighting at my club is like stage lighting in a theater (sans spotlight) and it washes you out just as bad. If you leave the dressing room looking natural, you'll have no face when you get to the floor.

I define my look as "classic porn star". Neutral eyes with false lashes and liquid liner on upper lid, bronzer and glossy nude lips.
