    Default What's your "ritual"?

    Hi Ladies,

I was intrigued by Phoebe's thread regarding makeup. I was wondering the same thing, about the glitz and glam. Checking out all these great websites while shopping for shoes and g-strings, I got a surge of joy looking at all the sparkles, glittery glosses and eyeshadows. (so sue me I'm 29, and enjoyed the tail end of the eighties....high hair and all...eek :o).

But what I was wondering is what "ritual" do you do before you get ready for your evening at the club i.e. love a relaxing hot bath, work out then a quick jump in the shower? How far do you all go preparing hair and make-up ? Let's face it, eight hours of constant movement, be it stage, lap dancing, or walking the floor greeting clientele, that adds up to one busy evening.

What's a must for you all to keep you going?

(I am an addict for aromatherapy oils....eucalyptus, and lavender being faves...) It makes your shower or bath unbelievably rejuvenating.

    thanks-!

    Lara

I answered this in another thread, but I couldn't find it so I'll tell it again.
It goes like this: begin by turning surround sound on, find sounds of season or techno on the DirecTV music channel. If they are having a shitty day, I will play one of my mix cds or something. Begin running bathwater and light candles. While water is running, I dance around the house as I undress to prepare for the prework bath. I stretch and think and whatever. Well, I either fix a snack or a chocolate martini or red bull or all three, and then go get in the bathtub. I listen to the music and sip and/or snack as I lay there. I find myself staring at the candles a lot. ( I did mention I was sorta a pyromaniac right, neway)
When I get done, I wrap up in a big comfy towel and head to bedroom. I sit and massage my body with light talcy lotion or whatever and will just lay on the bed for a while. I then go back in the bathroom and sit at the vanity and put on my war paint, excuse me......... work makeup.
I keep singing and singing and stretching and stretching. I pack my work bag along the way, and set all my accesories in the bag along with shoes. If I'm at my apartment, its kinda dumb to go downstairs b/4 I'm ready to leave so, the door guy will go put my stuff in my car for me for a nice tip. If I'm at my mom's or someone else's I put my own crap in my car cuz all I have to do is go outside.
I will finish my food or drink and then drink a bottle or water or two. When it's all said and done all Ihave to do is hit the button on the stereo and head out the door.

well since im a day girl and single mom i don't have the luxury of soaking in a tub
my day usually starts by getting my son ready for school for the afternoon classes ..then its off in a cab to the club where i survey the crowd and see if there any of my regs in there so i can line up a dance as soon as i get on the floor.
make up wise i start with the eyes.. little mascara and eyeliner, dab of blush and i'm off..no perfume no sparkles and no lipstick..don't want to send a businessman back to the office or wife with any of these aforementioned things attached to him...oh ya...and the last thing is a smile!!!!!!
    blessed be

Wow, how long does all that take, Divyne?

On a good day I jump in the bathtub with some baby oil in the water, candles, soft music, and study while I soak. Then I exfoliate while my skins all water logged, shampoo, etc.. jump out of the tup, put some harder rock on, dance around the house while I eat something, moisturize, do my hair, and off to work. At work I do my make up in the dressing room..

On a normal day I run through the shower at the last minute, do my hair, and grab some fruit to eat in the car..

I don't really mentally prepare at home. I have a long way to drive, so I do it in my car. It takes me about an hour. I do stretch earlier that morning, either at the gym or my home. I always put most of my make-up on at home. I have an amazing mirror that shows all flaws and has all kinds of different lighting.

I don't wear much make-up, but I have thick eyebrows so I am very detailed about grooming and shaping them and although I just wear a flesh toned shadow, I do wear realistic false lashes, so I need a good light to put them on correctly. Also, I use a self-tanner instead of tanning, so I always put on my make-up in the nude so the tanner will dry. I snowboard a lot so I have some bruises and capillaries that are more noticeable without my tanner. These are from boarding injuries. I'm not about to give up the sport, though!

My biggest time consuming activity is my hair. It is very curly and the darker the lights in a club, the more people are going to start speaking Spanish to me. It'''s weird. I seem to attract a higher end customer when I straighten my hair. I need to get a scanner to get my photo in the gallery. Then you could see what I mean.

When I get to work, I use that Nevia glow body lotion, put all my id and credit cards into my tip purse, have a cup of coffee,(I always bring my own) and I'm off to the races!

    Cheers,

Wow... WOW... :o I feel like the only one who doesn't get ready for work....however my club does require that we get there a half hour early (otherwise we get fined).. they want us to have proper time to get ready for our shift I guess... I usually roll over, look at the alarm clock, mumble "shit" , and grab my bag and go. Its kinda sad that I start at 5:30 in the evening... It is about an hour drive though (ok now I'm making excuses)

I start getting ready about 4 hours before my shift, not because I need all that time, but because i've noticed I look considerably much better when im not pressed for time or in a rush. I like taking my time.

I play classical music or enya-type music while getting ready, it calms me.

I light aromatherapy candles in front of the mirror. I like to sit on the bathroom counter when I get ready.

I sleep with bleaching trays in. Thats my biggest MUST.

Cat nap first, then shower, then some food. I don't bother putting on makeup or fluffing hair until i am at work.
I usually arrive in shorts and a tube top.

Another friggin bad spelling day. Damn it.

Okay, Pamela, stop reminding me that you live in FLORIDA and are able to wear shorts & a tube top to work! Ugh! I'm so jealous and so sick of this Northeast weather!

Anyway, we have to be at work 15 min before our shift, so I get ready around 6:20 pm..if I need a nap, I'll take a 30 minute nap, and get up - I'll eat, set up my dancing bag, clean my heels with clorox wipe-ups and windex ( since they're clear), shower, shave, and do my eyeliner and lashes, ( since they take the longest out of my makeup). Sometimes I'll use a fat curling ironn to give my hair some "lift", since it's really heavy & long -
The funnest thing is - is that while I am getting ready, my boyfriend will read aloud to me funny posts from the personals section of a local online classifieds site. They are SO funny and it's become a ritual for us.
Then I get up and go - never leaving later than 7:20 -put on my headphones (with music condusive to my current mood), hop on the train , and two stops I'm there.
I am proud to say that I have NEVER been late to work! I'm anally on time about things- not to mention it's a $25 fine ..

Once I get to work - I finish my makeup, get dressed and go to the bar for my coffee - I can never jump right in and start hustling for dances unless I see a regular of mine- I need some breather time!

My ritual when I was working:

Wake up. Eat while checking email and SW posts. Play some Grabage or whatnot while doing a quick tidy-up of the house. Take long steaming shower - shampoo, conditioner, shave everything, exfoliate everything, scrub from head to toe with body wash, exfoliate face with facial scrub, rinse hair, get out. Moisturize from head to toe. Handle mail and call regular customers while waiting for moisturizer to sink in a bit. Snack. Apply makeup, blow dry hair, get dressed. Pack work bag, double checking and doing inventory of all contents in the process. Get kid cleaned up, fed lunch, and dressed. Drop kid off at babysitter's, pick up dinner from Subway. Stop at store for any supplies I may be short on. Top off gas tank. Go into work an hour before any other girl, right when the bartender gets there to open. Open dressing room, stake my territory for the night, and get to work. Last minute makeup touches. Freshen up the nail polish. Curl and style the hair. Pull first outfit and shoes, and change. Take ADD medication and vitamins. Say "Hi" when the DJ comes in, and hand him my CD book. Grab a bottle of water, and start shooting the shit with the everyday early bird customers. Play a couple of dollars of bar-arcade games if there isn't anyone in there. Pick out first set of music 5-10 minutes before I take stage. Do a last run through of the place, making sure all tables are clean, pool sticks are put away, and things are orderly. Glance over stage to make sure it's in proper condition. Take stage, and run with it for the night.
