    Default How'd you get started

I'm thinking about all the "newbies"... or actually "wanna-bees" who frequent the forum. Maybe we can help them out and get them up on stage!

What got you thinking about stripping in the first place? How did you get started? What was your first night like?

I never really thought about it much, and certainly didn't think about ME doing it. I didn't have anything against it. It just wasn't on my radar screen at all. Then, my boyfriend (now husband) suggested the two of us go to a topless club one night, on a lark. I did and got to meet some of the girls. I was totally turned on by the idea of dancing, and fascinated by how much money they were making.

The club was having an amateur night the following Monday. I got my hunnie to take me to another club, so that I could get a different perspective on things. Back at the first club (Tiffany's in Phoenix, now Christie's) I showed up for the amateur contest. There were five of us. Three of the girls were obviously dancers from other clubs. Two of us were actual amateurs.

Clothes? The only thing I went out to buy was a new thong -- a really heavy glittery one from Frederick's. Otherwise, I wore a fairly simple wrap-around skirt, black 3" heels, a button-up white long sleeved blouse that I tied with only a couple of buttons fastened, and a front-snap white bra. I started dancing with my hair pulled back with a clip, but shortly after the music started, pulled the clip out and let my hair go down around my shoulders.

The routine was to dance one song individually, then we would all come out for a group strip. Skirt came off first. That wasn't much of a prob. Then the blouse, and that was a bit nervous. Reaching for the front snap on my bra took a HUGE amount of energy. I was shaking like a LEAF!!! Finally, I unsnapped it, and started playing with the cups, not letting my boobs fall out. After what seemed like FOREVER (I didn't know Arrowsmith did a 45-minute version of "Walk This Way"....it sure SOUNDED like that!!!) I pulled the cups off and let the bra fall off my shoulders and down my arms. There I was.... in all my glory!

By then, the shaking was over. I LOVED the applause and the whistles. Nothing is EVER like "amateur night". Ever.

I came in 2nd, and won $50. The manager offered me (and all the other girls, for that matter) a job. I only danced a little bit at that club, then later at another (both topless). It was great getting to know the girls and hearing their stories of how they got started dancing.

Sooooo..... who else has a story?

Hi! Glo here. When I first started dancing (umpteen years ago) I started as a bet. Yes a bet , my Ex did not think I had the guts, but I did it anyways. I was terrible at first, I was really scared and did not know how to hussle. I almost quit a million times my self esteem was horrible. One night I decided to stop bitching and just do it. I have two children to support and I am wasting lucrative years complaining. I started working out religiously and taking much better care of myself. I became (what I consinder really good) It also helped that I used to work at a wonderful Club in Illinois. I supported my children and my household on dancing as a single mom for approx. 8yrs. I miss it. My hubby and I will own a club in the future we have some plans laid out. I am in no shape to dance now my life has changed drasticly over the years. It was a time in my life I Will cherish. I had the chance to meet wonderful people and love what I did.
And that is GLO'S "Story" in a stiletto!!
    Have an AWESOME DAY!

    Hi.

I started dancing at 18 because the jobs I had in high school were not viable for me in college, and there were ads for dancers then in the general help wanted section of the newspaper. I called one and it was an agency and I asked all the newbie questions (how pretty do I have to be, etc. I found out you didn't have to be very pretty at all. Not that I'm not pretty. And I'm just going to drop this now.) At this time it was going to be only a summer job (ha) and this particular agency booked girls around Ontario, not much in Toronto. So we meet, we talk, we exchange information and they book me, a friend and two other newbies into this club in London (Ontario, not England). The friend backed out the day before, but they encouraged her to come along and be ready in case she changed her mind again. So we were in London, with very little money, and 4 eighteen year old girls. (Now it sounds like a porn flick. There were no orgies. In case anyone is disappointed later on). The club was called Solid Gold. The girls there were dolls. Very nice. I forgot shoes - seriously I forgot to bring shoes. One of the girls tried to lend me hers, but the heels were longer than my feet, so I borrowed a pair that was about 3 sizes too small. My feet hurt. I went up on stage first because nobody else wanted to, and I wasn't drinking or anything, but I literally heard a rushing in my ears, like the part of movies where something big is supposed to happen and all the external sounds are muted, and I felt completely confident I could do it because it was like I was just watching someone else do it. All the girls cheered really loud (it was pretty empty) and afterwards one of them came up to the changeroom to give me (ahem) grooming tips (really, nobody had told me about this before). The other new girls did SPECTACULARLY well and then our agent said she had to go look after someone else, and that she'd have to leave us alone, that we'd go up on stage once more and then someone would come for us or whatever. Not how it happened. They worked us for a double shift (without pay - there was pay back then. Oh, and I was still wearing tiny shoes) and refused to let us leave when we wanted too. Really. They told us we couldn't leave. We were at this point unhappy. (We never did get the rights of who was to blame, either the club or the agency. We didn't care, we didn't work with either of them again). Finally at closing they permitted us to go, and the driver from the agency showed up and told us there was a misunderstanding with the club. He said that he'd get us a motel room and sort it out in the morning because nobody was willing to stay at the club. In the morning nobody showed, so we took off and caught a bus home. I made two really good friends that I worked with for a while after that, and they started work in this club, that I joined them in, that we all loved. More really nice girls, with a very family kind of feel - like the older and more experienced girls spent a lot of time with the younger or less experienced girls, and we most of us got along pretty well. For a while. That eventually died. But it was fun while it lasted.

I was 17 and living with a musician who had a heavy drinking problem - in other words, he drank all our rent and grocery money on a regular basis. (I know, I know - you can quit with the "stupid kid" thing already).

Three weeks before my 18th brithday, I was riding out to Walker County with my best friend from high school, for his college orientation. On our way back, we passed a strip joint on the side of the road, almost right on the county line. I walked in - they weren't technically serving yet that day - got to talking to the gay managaer. Turned out the place had just been opened for business as a strip joint and was needing girls in a bad way. So I arranged with the manager to come back right after my 18th birthday, and work there any night that I could make it out there (45 minute drive from the apartment, and I did not have a car myself at the time).

So about 2 weeks after my 18th birthday, I went in there with nothing but a white lacy bra and thong set, a pair of black heels, a simple black velvet dress, a few cds and tpes, and some makeup.

I shook so bad all night long, simply with nerves (being that I am a naturally high-strung individual), that the DJ had to light all my cigarettes for me. I couldn't hold my hand still long enough to do it on my own.

I was the youngest girl working there, and that may have been why I made okay money - for it being a little hick joint in the middle of nowhere. I got over the nerves after 2 nights, got into my groove in two weeks, and was doing kick-ass pole tricks in a gentlemen's club a few months later.

As a side note, the drunken musician was dispatched with about two months after I started dancing. So, eventually, I did grow a brain.

I just started dancing last week, with the objective of paying for college. I guess it wasn't a spontaneous decision because I have thought about it for a year, when I was seventeen. A guy I was dating suggested it actually. I didn't know dancers made as much money as they do, and thought it would be a great way to pay for school. I investigated the business a lot over the past few months, visited a few clubs, and finally decided to go for it over my spring break last week. I just walked into the club I wanted to dance at and was hired. Two days later I worked my first shift. Sort of surreal, but fun.
The adult entertainment industry has always intrigued me, and I have always admired the women that took it seriously. I have even more respect for them now that I have started dancing. Being onstage is such a rush; I love the costumes, makeup, and performance. Women just have this intrinsic beauty when they are dancing, very seductive and spellbounding. Of course, there are the lower points...grabby customers, the girls who need drugs just to do their job, etc, but I love it nonetheless.
I have met the most interesting people so far, both customers and dancers. I am learning the subtleties of the business..hustling and good lap dancing.
And I have paid of the remainder of my tuition bills and signed a lease on my first apartment...not bad for an 18 year old. I feel like I have grown up a lot in the last week and a half. I feel more confident knowing that I can take care of myself financially. It's a great feeling, getting my life together. I am so glad I made the leap and danced.

Hmmm... My boyfriend at the time was a pool player. He played in the Gold Coast 8Ball Association teams.. and one year the team he played for was "Santa Fe Gold".. yes a strip club. Due to him having every second week at SFG and then one month where he played there for 3 weeks straight (every Thursday)... I got good exposure.

Before that tho', I had some slight exposure thru visiting Players (where I now work)... It was my first ever strip club experience and also my first lap dance experience at Players... now I'm working there a year and half later LOL :-)

Anyhow, due to all the exposure I was having to SFG thanks to the Pool Comp. ... I got to talking with some of the other dancers naturally.

My plan was to start at the beginning of October before Indy at the end of October... life had other plans for me.. I ended up starting Sept. 12th 2001. I just went up to the Dancer Manager (female) and asked if I could work.. she hired me.

I was so damn nervous that night and it didn't help it was the night after the Sept. 11 attacks. None-the-less, my first private dance came from one guy who liked me because I had small boobs... I didn't have a clue how to hussle at that point and was also too nervous to do so.

The plan was to do Indy and then that was it. Yeah.. right! Indy came around and I was prepared by then and made an incredible amount of $$... something I wasn't used to as I working cafe jobs.

I plan on doing this for a couple of years yet as there are things I want to give a go (working in Guam, maybe some work in the USA.. New Orleans specifically as well as entering the Exotic Angels comp. here)... unless life has other plans for me.. I plan on doing this for awhile yet.

I, too, have met alot of interesting people on both sides: dancers and customers. I know when I'm older and finished with all this that I'm not going to regret doing it one bit... one of the best decisions I've made in my life.

I started in 1998 when I was 20, because I was in college full time, working for minimum wage at a bank, and wondering how in the heck I was going to do well in school and pay for it (and my bills) at the same time.

I became friends with one of my coworkers who was about my age, and in a similar situation. She eventually told me that she worked as a dancer, and I thought it sounded great- an opportunity to have money AND have time for my schoolwork!

I went there one night while she was working to check it out, and decided I'd definitely like to try it. I went back that week, and auditioned on the back stage while the manager checked it out from his office upstairs via closed circuit video. He came down, told me I was hired, and I started the next night!

My first night was fun; I thought it was much easier and better than the automaton job that I had been trudging through before, and I really enjoyed being able to talk to people, perform, take breaks whenever I deemed it necessary...I have always really enjoyed the freedom and independence that this job provides in comparison to other jobs.

Even after I graduated, I found that I still prefer this work to a 9-5 corporate job, and can earn far more in less time by dancing than I could in entry-level positions. So, now I have a degree to fall back on, and would like to continue to dance while I can. My goal is to have my own business someday, and combine my business knowledge and education with the love for the entrepreneurial spirit that dancing has allowed me to develop.

So, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

    Have a fantastic day, friends!

    Love and Hugs,
    Megan

Still 17 I when into a strip club for the first time and was like oh my God. I hated it. I didnt dance. Plus it was a nude club.

I got my car so I travelled alot. I was scared the first time they ask me if I what do you have on and thong or g-string. Go on stage. Remember I know nothing about the strip club world and it was a bar with a lot of big men smoking. Gosh what was I thinking ???. First time dancing for me was like hell being young and all. Scary.

But I have learned alot and still learning.

This is going to sound weird but when I was nine I wanted to dance topless not become a docotr or anything like that. So when I turned 19 I went into my first club and they hired me right on the spot and I was like yeah this will be easy. Wow was I ever wrong. The girls were snotty and resented me alot. I went on stage really not knowing what I should do. The lights were so bright and put off alot of heat. I was shaking nervously as well as sweating vigourously. But then I realized after I got offstage that I wanted to go up again. I immediately fell in love with the dancing and the atmosphere.

I started after I heard how much money dancers made a night. I picked an upscale club in my area and went in to check it out. I had never even been in a club before! I went alone because I couldn't get anyone to go with me. I just told the manager that I was interested in dancing and he let me sit and watch for awhile. After that I filled out an app. and went home. I had to come back later and meet the house mom. Luckily I did not have to try out on stage, I just had to undress down to my underwear for the house mom. I was so nervous on my first day of work that I hardly remember it! Anyway, 4 years later its a distant memory! So, to all the newbies out there, hang in there! You'll make it!

I got a late start to my dancing career-I was almost 29 before I ever considered getting naked in public.

I had just come off a divorce that left me in deep debt, gotten laid off from my job, and my unemployment benefits were running out, even though they weren't enough to really make ends meet anyway.

My boyfriend then (now husband) was an exotic dancer for the ladies. He would help me out financially if I needed it, but I was very proud and didn't want to take his money. We both had bitter divorces in our past, so we weren't living together at that time.

I ran out of my savings, and I couldn't make my rent in October 1998. I was crazy with worry because I had no local family, and if I lost my apartment that meant leaving the state and giving up what was turning out to be a wonderful relationship with my boyfriend. One of the local strip clubs had been advertising an "Ameture night" in the paper for weeks, so I decided to go for it. It is just one night, and first prize was $100, and all I needed to cover my rent was an extra $75.

I won the contest. I also got what I considered then to be a huge amount of tips, about $50. I wasn't terribly nervous-just a little stage fright that disappeared in about 30 seconds of me being up there, and I was totally sober. I couldn't afford to buy myself a drink, and the contestants were separated from the rest of the bar, so I didn't even get an offer from a patron of the bar.

I went home that evening and reality started to set in. I earned in two hours what it took me half a week to earn at my last job. I had a lot of fun doing it, and felt totally comfortable in the bar. It didn't take me long to get a full time job stripping, but I did maintain a part time day job for the first year or so of my stripping career.

I do love dancing now as much as ever and am sad that the hands of time are turning so fast for me. I may be able to dance until I'm 40 if I plan it properly, and start investing money in age reversal procedures and plastic surgery. I just wish I got started earlier.
