    Default My first night...

Well I can't write in full detail, but basically I practiced from 2:30pm to 6pm, then worked from 6pm to about 1:45am. I have horrible bruises all over my knees, legs, and feet. My first customer for the bed dance couldn't keep his tongue/mouth to himself. Second customer (couch dance) apparently thought strippers were hookers with an offer of a hotel room. For my first like 4 stage dance sets, I scared all the people away from the tip bar. People used my sets to go to the peep booths or run and get some food. I didn't get any tips until my very last stage dance, and I got 11 dollars. They didn't charge me a house fee or make me tip out, but I was penalized a total of 32 dollars (5 hours without a single drink bought for me, sitting with customers when I was supposed to be standing and looking for a dance), which brought my grand total for the night down to 69 dollars. The best thing I can say is at least the girls who work there are really nice (most of them). Other than that I went the whole time from 2pm till 1:45am with 4 tiny drinks and nothing to eat, and came home sick and shaking. I'm scheduled four days this week, and each time I am working at least 8 hours, one day I'm working 10 (but I'm actually required to be there 30 minutes early).

Anyone who says stripping isn't hard work is on crack and needs to be stabbed in the eye with my stilletto.

LMAO!! That's absolutely how I feel about it! This weekend I had 2 different guys (1 each night) do extended VIP's with me and even though the club closes at 5am on weekends, they both paid the high dollars to keep the club 'open' just for us. I worked until 7am Friday night, and 8am last night. I have to be at work at 9pm, so that's 10 hours Friday and 11 hours Saturday - EXcluding preparation and checking out time.

I went onstage 6 times last night, walked/danced around on 6" heels for 11 hours with only VERY brief sitting, got HOUNDED for 'dates' for hours before finding ONE paying customer, fought off hands and tongues from almost everyone who tipped/got dances, listened to endless BS about why he doesn't want a dance but just wants to take a nice girl like me to 'dinner', listened to endless BS meant to impress me, entertained everyone who tipped/paid me (and some who didn't) while also coordinating them, the waitress and bartender to ultimately keep the guy satisfied, stroked egos, ensured everyone involved in each transaction was taken care of (tips, etc), and did it all with a smile and a sexy and pleasant demeanor. (Surely this level of sales and 'people coordination' experience will be worth something on a resume if needed at some point! I've met lots of high level company managers who couldn't finesse people as well as many strippers do every day, on many different levels.) Not that I'm complaining, the money is good, but jeeeeeez I'm tired!

People just have NO idea how hard it is. Most people could never handle what we do, and with a smile! Of course I like what I do and can't really complain, but when people go on about how easy I have it, it makes me want to, as Reznor says, stab them in the eye with my stiletto!

Reznor, as we've said before, your first day is never your best. It's just a starting point, and it will get better as you learn your niche and how to handle things. You walked out with more than what you started with. But it was still your first day at your first club. You may find that club is not for you, and maybe another one is. You will definitely find what works for you in general, and that is when the REAL bucks will start rolling in. Just keep it up!

    Hey Reznor,

Bridgette is right. Give it a chance. I just started at a new place last Wednesday. We have an extremely low tip out, so even though the money wasn't the most I have ever made I still felt OK with that. I made more on my second night as well.

Our situation is interesting. There are two clubs next to door to each other. One club is a nude juice bar. The other one, where I work, is a bikini bar, soon to be topless, with a full bar. The bikini bar is no admission and of course they charge for the nude bar.

This is the twist; if the bikini bar is short on stage dancers( there is no lap dancing in the bikini bar) and if a nude dancer is not making money and is over 21, she can do a stage set at the bikini bar. Now, the bikini dancers are allowed to take a customer to the nude bar for a lap dance or private dance, as long as she checks in with bikini manager and takes her name off of the dance list.

Like I said, I didn't make too much on the first night, but I did better on Friday and I have been meeting a lot of the regulars. Just hang in there and keep your smile on.

BTW, I have already had a problem with one of the dancers, but the other established dancers were having problems with her too. It is tough, because I am new I don't want to complain. Also, she is a foot taller than me, so I don't want to get a stiletto in my head. I had to follow her on stage and she wouldn't get off. She didn't have any customers at her stage and then they all started coming over when I hit the stage. She wouldn't leave. She stood there yelling at the customers for not tipping her. I just got on the pole furthest away from her and started dancing and collecting money. She even made fun of my dancing!! It was kind of funny.

I know I am rambling but I just had to tell that story.

BTW, Reznor, what area are you working in? I am in LA.

    Cheers and hang in there,

I'm at Deja Vu in Springfield (Illinois). I am getting the impression that as far as management and customers (and the condition of the place) goes, this is one of the clubs that comes up lacking. Lacking in girls, lacking in respect for dancers. There are only 22 dancers and their goal is to try to keep at least 45 so they can schedule some of the girls only 2 or 3 days. The minimum you can be scheduled here is four days (four full shifts), no exceptions.

Corey, that other dancer is only messing with you because you are new and probably cuter and obviously have a better attitude. Don't let her get you down. You did the right thing by just going on with your set even though she was acting like a fool. Everyone saw her make an ass of herself. I'll even bet that some of the guys who tipped you did so in part because she was being an ass. However, she could be a problem if you let her. Some bitter strippers really can get nasty, so just watch her.

Reznor, the Deja Vu chain has an overall bad reputation among many dancers, so that may not be a good place for you. However, it could be a good place just to get your feet wet and learn the ropes before moving on to a better club where you will be treated better and likely earn more. I say again, hang in there girl! It will get better!

This is in reply to Bridgette.

Thanks for the tips about dealing w/ the dancer. She is one I can't figure out. She is really striking at first glance; six feet in heels, tall thin model body. I think she is Russian. Thick accent. You just can't talk to her. She won't listen or try to understand. And to boot, in the dressing room lights, she is scary! Not ugly, just evil looking. I think it's from her expression or really bad make-up. I just don't get it. She wears nice things and is striking but the guys don't seem moved by her, so she blames it on the dancers.

I'll watch out for her, though. Hopefully, they'll just fire her.

    Cheers,

    Corey

FYI Russian immigrant dancers have a notorious rep for being pushy, bitchy, rude and often just plain mean. Of course it's not always true. But to the point, her ethnicity or nationality is irrelevant. She sounds like just a bitchy bitter stripper and the best thing you can do is watch her but ignore her, and don't let her bother you. If she gets in your face, just walk away or continue what you were doing and act like she's not even there. She will hate that and will likely get louder at first, but when she sees she can't push you around and/or upset you, she'll lay off. These girls are always looking for another victim, so don't fall into her stupid game. With you being new she thinks you're an easy target - so don't be. Don't talk to her, don't listen to her, don't visibly look at her. She will get much worse if she sees she bothers you. Good luck and good money!

Great job Reznor! Keep it up and have fun--and remember that the more you do it, the more comfortable you are with it. Not saying it's easy, but it gets easiER because you start to get the routine down, and start to understand customers, etc. Sorry I can't make it to Springfield!

On the other subject above, I know a Russian/Ukranian dancer who keeps getting fired from clubs for drinking, chatting and other no-no deeds. She is a nice woman to customers, but has a bad rep with fellow dancers. The funny thing is, I keep running into her at different clubs in Chicagoland! So each new club I go to there is a friendly face--the same one!

I agree, it's a bitch when one starts, as in all professions and trades. Just have faith and it will all go well for you.

They told me all girls have to work at least 4 days a week.... they only have 22 dancers including me.

After reading your post and hearing you talk about being fined and having to sell drinks i was going to suggest you change clubs. Now that you mentioned Deja Vu I understand.

I haven't been fined in ages nor worked at a club that pushes drinks or watches your every move.

Stick with the dancing but are there any full bar clubs you can get hired in nearby?

You'll find that many clubs with a full bar aren't as pushy and scandalous because they make good revenue off the bar and don't need to squeeze the girls so hard.

Don't worry about guys wanting to date. that happens all the time. the club i worked at last week had about 10-20 guys a night asking me for dates. you just have to brush them off and go on to the next table.

Hang in there, you,ll find your niche. We all have $69 nights. I had one $54 night last week but the night before was $279 plus the club pays us $75 a night.

Sorry to hear about that. I would also suggest trying to find a new club. You really do not want to put all that pressure on your body at this point and time. Your skin will age faster and your knees will continously hurt.

I don't have the problem of them making us a schedule. WE (the girls) just work whenever we feel like it.

    Good luck!!

I just wanted Reznor to know, now that I've seen her picture, that if she decides she doesn't want to keep up stripping she can always move to New York and have me support her.

    Food for thought:

about 2-3 months ago, I had my worst night ever. I left with $65. The next night I had my best night ever. I made over $1600. You just never know!
