    Default Naked Education

After reading some posts from male customers that imply that we dancers are uneducated. I thought that instead of discussing who does extras lets talk about who used stripping to pay for their college education and others who dance in spite of having a college degree.

We here on this forum are a force to be reckoned with. We have looks and brains and we do know how to use them.

Lets celebrate the positive of all the women that post here.

I have a four-year degree in Music from a New York Music Conservatory. My minor was in computers.

I work as an artist who also dances and besides stripping I teach Astanga Yoga at a local health club. I am also the University’s Belly Dance instructor.

I have had my art displayed in museums and sold at high-end shops.

    Live well, laugh often.

    Love you all

Dancing paid for my college and when I graduated I had money in the bank, two payments on my car left and money in my SEP.

Nice change of pace, Le Q.
I am 32, started dancing at 21, my dancing money put me through collage. I have a degree in Business Managemant, plan on finishing. Worked the job title for some time, and was not ready to jump into the B.M. work force yet. Kept on stripping, after a short vacation here and there.

Took up phone sex. Around 5 years later i am still active with my phone sex job. This money bought my 1998 Benz. Darn proud of the hard work i do for my pleasuer, and ...Investing wisely.

I breed German Shepherds, police depts. have first pick of the litter. And i adopt abused pitbull terriers. I have learned and done my own training for my pitbull terriers.

I work part time for a major hospital in the patient relations dept. Helping familes of loved ones. Focusing on trauma patients.

I am a single parent of a beautiful girl, whom gets the best of my attention. With the best babysitters...Our beloved Dogs. While i am doing phone work.
Yes i trust my pitbull terriers to the fullest as well as my shepherds with my family. And an owner of a Burmese Python who is now around 9 foot. And stays away from small...anything.

Thats about it for me in a nut shell. More projects come and go. But for my lifestyle, dancing brings in great money. As i can never turn down a pet in need. Phone sex, is another way of using good talent, that otherwise i would be wasting. And money to be made.

I own my home, two cars, many pets, have a child...And am driven to work. I plan on doing hospital work and phone sex only within the next 4 years. I will take on hospital work full time then. Always i will have my pets. And add more!
Wow...I think thats enough.. Sorry so long

Its so great to hear all this stuff.

Hey men, dont imply we are dumb or uneducated... we can say the same for someone who has to PAY to see our bodies, but you dont see us flaming you.
Currently, I am in my 2nd year of college, majoring in Business and aiming to get into the business school of my university.
I have maintained between a 3.5 and 4.0 through out the last year (and this one)
I dance a few times a month, and can afford my bills, and have two bank accounts....both rising. lol
Yes there are uneducated dancers, as there are uneducated customers. . The most uneducated people are those who point the finger

Don't put me in the equation. I know most of you girls have an education or are putting yourselves through college. Honestly, that helps a lot in giving your clients intelligent conversation as well as sensual dances . Oh, and I'm educated myself, I'm a lawyer .

Economics- Business here. Maintained a GPA of not less than 3.7, ended with 3.8. High school Honors graduate. Used to build webpages, taking a break from that. Taught myself html and javascript, and a little dhtml. Learning flash. Total computer nerd. Always got some project on the fire. Paid cash for my cars since 1998, got a couple growing bank accounts too. Also looking at taking my masters in business. Learning Spanish. Can hold a very intelligient conversation on a wide variety of topics. Love to read, and can spell with the best of them

Susan, you are absolutely the FIRST other stripper I've heard of who also studied economics! I'm still always amused at the looks I get when a customer hears I studied that, hehe.

Oh yeah, I also have experience as a small business owner. At the ripe old age of 19, I bought a video store from an older couple looking to retire. I had no money and a LITTLE credit, so had to do some creative financing including partial owner finance and bank loans at two separate banks, but I did it on my own anyway. Ran it for a year and a half, realized I wasn't going to get rich with a small video store in a small suburb, and sold it to a guy building a small local chain and was able to pay off my debts. Nearly 10 years after selling it I wonder if it's still there...

I was the valedictorian of my high school and was accepted to Ivy League universities. I am studying architecture and english as an undergrad at a top ranked university. I will graduate in three years because I took college credit in high school. I am bilingual as well as an artist. I have been paid for my portraits.

I had a promising high school start in journalism, and was a good scholarship candidate. However, I wound up becoming a high school dropout who married a deadbeat and got pregnant during my senior year. After 10 years of hell working low paying "straight" jobs (including at one point cleaning other people's houses and washing other people's toilets), all the while watching my husband piss money away on new guitars and amps, watching my son not have enough to eat, and dodging bill collectors. I decided a fundamental change was necessary.

I went for my GED, then quit my shitty straight job to work on a Respiratory Therapy degree full time (on borrowed money). After I graduated and got a decent paying straight job as a Respiratory Therapist, I was still watching my deadbeat husband use the extra money for fancier guitars and taller amps instead of bills. At this point I went for a divorce!

As a result of the divorce, besides my own student loans I wound up "inheriting" over 10 grand worth of my deadbeat ex-husband's bills. I also found out that while working as a Respiratory Therapist that I had been exposed to patients with Tuberculosis, and had caught it myself. I was also starting to have to work with blood samples from AIDS patients on a daily basis. However, working as a Respiratory Therapist in the big cities in NY and NJ did allow me to start shaving away at the debt I inherited.

Just when things started looking like I'd climb out of the hole, my father became very sick. This forced me to move away from the big cities in order to care for my father. I promptly discovered that the pay rate for Respiratory Therapists in the small cities wasn't anywhere near the big city rates, and I was in danger of going in debt again.

About that time a new dance club opened up in the small city near my father, and I went in to check it out. I quickly discovered that I could earn much more money nursing men's libidos in the club than I could saving their lives in hospital emergency rooms (and with much less risk of exposure to diseases and AIDS). After my father died, I migrated to dance clubs near the big cities where MUCH more money could be earned.

I also discovered that, if a girl is in the right place at the right time, it's possible to get a lot of "free tutoring" on subjects such as economics, law, medicine and politics from some leading figures in their respective fields, while wearing 6" heels and a skimpy costume and being paid well for it besides!

After reading some posts from male customers that imply that we dancers are uneducated. I thought that instead of discussing who does extras lets talk about who used stripping to pay for their collage education and others who dance in spite of having a collage degree.
This male customer for one would never stoop to making such an infantile assumption. I've met a number of incredibly intelligent women working at clubs where I live, and it was only academic that I'd find so many of them here. There's something refreshing about a woman with an intellectual mind and a working class heart.

A lot of us men for that matter also have college degrees and are working jobs that society would consider "beneath" our intellect. I'm a total nerd myself, but after five years of college and scraping together enough credits to graduate with a BA in English with a Poli-Sci minor, I was ready to get outta there.

For what its worth, my muscles and joints (of which I do not have a lot of), are whats putting food in my tummy, clothes on my back, a roof over my head, and an occasional stash of money to go see you ladies do your job. I'm not going to knock anyone for trying to earn a living.

We here on this forum are a force to be reckoned with. We have looks and brains and we do know how to use them.

Lets celebrate the positive of all the women that post here.
    To that I say, Amen.

Dancing is paying for my education as well. Growing up was a little hard on me and my sister but my mom always made sure we had a book in our hhands and knowledge in our heads. We did not have any money to pay for me to be the first one to actually attend college in my family so I started stripping. It is actually paying off. I have enough money saved for the next two semesters. So oh well to those who are the ones who are aactually atupid and paying for our education!!

Well, I'm not a dancer yet, but I am currently pursuing a BA in Business Management, with a Human Resources track.

My hope is that dancing will give me a little more freedom to complete my degree, but I doubt I'll stop dancing after I'm done with school.

i have many talents and intellects as well... and i am trying to pursue a dancing career to further them.
ever since i was about 6 months old i have been drawing. i always knew i wanted to be an artist, when people ever discourage me i never believe them, because i feel it was a gift given to me. i moved on throughout high school and participated in several local exhibits, sometimes taking best of show, and i studied in advanced placement studio courses throughout high school. then i moved on to attend kutztown university attempting to major in studio arts, with painting as a concentration, but left, because i found that most of the classes were mere exercise and it actually drained me of all inspiration to view art in the black and white view of their curriculum...
so that brings me to where i am now... i want to sell my impressionistic oils eventually in a gallery, but rent on a shop can be expensive, as well as the tools i require, therefore, here i am, trying out a career that has always interested me to possibly aid in my vision.
so even if i am viewed as an object at work... work is simply work... i feel even when i waitress as i do now that people u into a stereotype, or face. i, as others should, do look past those customers and employers, and continue to strive to do my best, despite shallow minds.

I'm a recent graduate from an undergraduate degree (in sociology and women's studies...double major). I graduated with highest honors (suma cum laude), and with double departmental honors. I completed an honors thesis that is comparable to a PhD dissertation.

I currently am working in AIDS education and prevention (I've mentioned this a number of times before). I'm saving up money to complete my master's in Amsterdam. My intention is to get a PhD and become a professor.

I danced while I was in college, for the money as well as the enjoyment in the business. I would love to be dancing right now as well, but I'm working full time, and I don't have the energy to also dance. Just the idea of working from 9-5, and then dancing from 8-4, and then waking up at 7am to do it all over again, pains me!! I would love to just do it once a week on a friday or saturday, but I've had problems finding clubs that would allow me to do that considering they have an overabundance of women working there already.

My favorite part of all of this is expressing my feminist politics to people, and then later on in the conversation stating that I used to dance (and didn't find it degrading, dehumanizing, problematic...and I wasn't brainwashed, manipulated, coerced....in fact, I felt empowered by certain things, enjoyed the job, and would do it again in a heartbeat!!!). That always throws people off entirely! Just the other day I was talking to a heterosexual guy (who has been to strip clubs). He thought the profession was degrading, whereas I argued against that misconception. Ironic, huh (and a bit hypocritical, actually)?!?!?

    Hmm.. let's see...
Cert III in Child Care and Education
Didn't persue that career choice as it is not a well paid job for what you do. It is horrible plus I didn't want to be burnt out at 25 (I did the Cert. course after I graduted HS).
    Cert. III in Office Admin
It is thanks to this course that I learnt how to touch type (and still do will good speed and accuracy) amongst other things. I was going to pursue an office admin. career however life had other plans for me. I won't mention what exactly as it is personal.

Amongst that I did a Cert. (correspondence) course in Small Business Management before the gov't here introduced the GST amongst other things so that makes some of what I learnt irrelevant.

Cert. III in Food and Beverage / Front Office
I did this cert. course because I wanted to get somewhere in Hospitality. Hospitality is a huge industry on the Gold Coast and I was restricted at the time to cafe work.. I wanted to be able to do bar and a la carte. It didn't really get me anywhere because there came a point where I knew that I just wanted out of Hospitality not to go further in it.

However all those courses were paid for by my father except for the Small Business one. These days, of course, he is not going to pay for any more.. I was lucky. I am also grateful to him as I have knowledge from all of those courses that has stayed with me....

I did a 4 month FT I.T. traineeship last year... that showed me that I.T was NOT going to be for me. I was best to stick with my web design as a paying hobby of sorts than an actual career prospect.

Now that I know I.T is not for me.. I can now pursue a career that can benefit from my love for all animals (esp. cats). I love watching docos of all sorts... I love the way Nature works. She is so amazing and scary at the same time... just so fascinating.

It is thanks to this job I was able to finally buy my first private transportation: a Bug "Bandit" Scooter. :-) I'm also able to feed my only addiction: the internet by being able to pay in advance many months worth of access.

Oh yeah.. it also allowed me to do Tai Chi for one full year as well as many other things.

My plans? To eventually run my own small business (or three), own one of those new VW beetles :-) as well as be able to go thru Uni without a hassle. I'm also considering buying my own unit or house in the future.... I would never thought I could before doing dancing.

I wouldn't mind owning my own unit .. one that has a pool, isn't too far from the beach, is located in Surfers Paradise or not too far from Surfers and/or near a canal. It has to be a 2 bedroom place if I'm going to live in it myself or 3 bedroom if I want to share a bedroom.

I wouldn't mind one bedroom being my bedroom and a second one for where I could go and re-start my love affair with screenwriting. I started quite a few original movie screenplays when I was a teen and had a talent for it... wouldn't mind being able to do that in the future as well.

    :-)

In visiting clubs, I have found that a great number of women who dance in larger cities are putting or have already put themsleves through college or trade school for things like architecture or design, etc. The clubs in smaller towns and more rural areas don't have nearly as many dancers who aspire to attend college, even though the educational opportunities are still there (i.e., community college, etc.). In fact, at my area clubs, I always get a raised eyebrow when I tell dancers I work at a college.

As you all know, education is important, and it will be extremely beneficial later in life, when perhaps a dance career is nearing its end (noooooooooooo!). Not obnoxiously, but if we get on the subject I always encourage dancers to pursue education. Right now I am helping one get her GED. Then college. She said she would much rather have me help her get the GED than buy dances from her.

    Ciao,

    Trav.

I thought this was a great topic and wanted to bring it back up. Thanks to dancing, I have graduated from a top UC school with a degree in Critical Theory/Linguistics and have been admitted to NYU for a masters program (although it is super expensive and I may end up going the PhD route to get it paid for by the school) and was offered a full ride to University of Miami (will hold out another year). I have my CBEST teaching certificate so that I can substitute teach, have taken the LSAT and GRE and have studied abroad in France for over a year. Will probably get a Teaching English as a Foreign Language certificate. I love learning languages and dancing is helping me to be able to afford applying to graduate schools, paying off enormous credit card debt, and funding intensive language courses in Spanish, Italian, etc abroad. Thank you, gentlemen!!! lol....

The topic's been done before. And just about every bulletin board has a high percentage of lurkers. When you add the fact that most dancers prefer a degree of anonymity, a low number of replies is no great surprise.
