    Default pole work?

Is there any advice that any one can give me for beginning work on the pole? :-/ I work with a lot of girls that do amazing pole tricks. i.e. they climb, swing, and hang from the raptors! Is there is any advice to get me not to be so nervous about getting on the pole? And is there is any concerns or risks I should know about?

It's all leverage. If you find yourself feeling insecure or scared, remember, if you don't let go, you won't fall (except be extra careful with those damned stainless steel poles), even if you look a little silly getting down. Practice at the beginning of the night. Remember, noone ever did one of those fancy tricks just right the first time.

The bottom line is you really don't need pole tricks, but they do grab the guys attention, and will help you feel confident up there. You can also practice at playgrounds and on certain kinds of street signs.

Lol...Djoser...So true. I have a love hate relationsip with ...yep.. *a pole*, mine at home and at work. One club i used to work the pole swung with you, wow! Made it so easy.
And right on..Don't let go. I fall alot trying "stupid" tricks. The first trick i learned came from cheerleading in high school. (this is a trick, not just swinging around or going up). My friend used to stand with her back towards me, i would slowly run or walk up (whatever is easier for you), and do a handstand, flip my legs over just a tad and put my legs around her neck. And just hold on. The end result was she would flip me up on top of her shoulders.
With the pole, you can approach it the same way, almost against it, and go to a handstand, wrap your legs tightly around the pole, Now you are doing a handstand with your legs around it, so squeeze your legs and pull up until you can grab with a hand, it's mostly leg work anyway. Now swing/slide down the pole to a split, or a half split if you can.
It is the toughest trick, and looks great with a sexy skirt on or any skimpy outfit. But you must use your legs! Tight. And your damn abs...wow. they will feel it too.
Be carerful, i learned with a mat (yoga mat) wrapped around the pole. But this trick gets attention quick.
Climbing the pole is easy as it's all arms and legs to squeeze onto with. Coming down has many variations.
RISK...falling, banging your head. YES. be careful. If you can go in early and practice, or have an other dancer who is good on the pole help some that would be great. And you WILL be sore after the first few days of working the pole. Muscles you never thought you had will hurt. It passes. But it is about leverage, and being strong with your squeeze technique.

It's hard to describe in words what we do with the pole. Maybe buy a video on pole work. I learned along time ago at a playground. Like Djoser mentioned. They are great. And there is a posting about poles someplace buried here! Lol
Good luck. Many Many tricks to be learned. Climbing is very easy, it just looks strange to me. Start small, and work up. There are (i believe) many different levels to pole tricks. And some are very tough. Not what you normally see. I am a pole dancer, so i am always learning different variations of tricks that i make up. Tricks other girls ask about, but would never attempt they tell me. PS i tend to dance with the pole while on it. Bending back, humping, (like riding a mechanical bull). tongue, (looks that way, not really). splits, hanging upside down and swinging, etc. Too much. And i Friggin hate the damn thing. but i don't do lapdances.
    Good luck...Pamela
