Default Taken advantage of because you dance?

    Similar question different abuser.

    I mean the outside world.

I took my van in for some tranny work and was referred by a friend (owner of the club) to this particular garage and as soon as they knew I danced, the eyebrows go up and so did the prices!

I find this happens so much! I try to keep that subject quiet and not reveal that info (that I dance)but in this case it was supposed to be a favor on behalf of the club owner (ya right).

Oh You DANCE? You gals make sooooo much money huh?

    Yeesh.
There is a boutique that caters to dancers, primarily stocking only the platforms and thigh highs etc - and their prices are anywhere from 30% to 50% higher than anywhere else including online! Of course I dont shop there but new girls and out of towners get rooked because they dont know where to go!

Or those club to club costumers, charging 180 dollars for a spandex gown I could have made at home! WHat the hell. If I took a pattern and the material to a seamstress it would probably be like 35 dollars tops.

Ever get scammed rooked ripped off cause whoever thinks you are rolling in the dough?

Doesn't it just ROAST your ass?

but i agree...the stag shop here in london supposedly caters to dancers but i can get a better outfit to wear a 'value village' for 10bucks.....i still pinch pennies and look for sales...just because i dance doesnt mean i wipe my ass with twenties......yeesh is right!!

Leigh- you are so right- there is a store here in the W. Village - and the woman who owns it has her prices jacked up to like $200/dress - $100 - $120 for stilettos - it's ridiculous. I told her once that her prices were way too high and she said "you girls all make more $$ than me , I have rent that's 10 grand a month". I told her that it's not the girl's fault that she pays such a high rent - it's her landlord's - and that it's absurd to try and rob me/dancers without a gun - Then I told her $40 (for a $100 dress) - and that's that. She begrudgingly said okay. hee.

Especially with the economy nowadays, none of us are making the money we used to - and just b/c you're a dancer doesn't mean you're rolling in the dough. I only work 3 nights/ week. so it's still comparable to someone who works 5 days a week. Why should I be charged differently? These people also dont take other things into consideration like Healthcare, etc....

Yes, it does roast my buns!

The burn on the dancer clothes is awful here, too. I went into this one place and saw a cute skirt set marked $160... with a fist sized hole through the side of it (not on the seam, on the fabric!!). I said no way was I paying that much for the dress and (I sew so I could work with it), offered a fraction just to see... they wouldn't come down more than $10 and had the gall to tell me that even with the hole, "You'll make your money". How cute. I found the dress online for $65

Shoes are often in the $100+ range for things I can find online for $35-60 and I have spent many a night giving a rundown to new girls on where to buy their work outfits without paying those prices.

But it isn't just dancers this happens to... I've noticed car repair and other prices get jacked up here in our little mid-sized burg when my boyfriend admits that he works for a major Seattle tech company.

Yeah, there have been a multitude of times when I have been floored by the pricing on "dancer" outfits. There was one that must have been made out of gauze (or cloth comparable to it), about twice the size of a tube top, straight (meaning non-fancy) stitching, and it was priced at $80. For Christ's sake, I don't sew, can't do it worth shit, but I have reason to believe that I could have made something similar for $5 (enough to buy the thread, needle, and crappy fabric). Fucking ridiculous. I have since become stealthy in my outfit buying endeavors.

How much does a 24 pack of beer cost? 6-8 bucks is a little low for scantily clad contact considering a McDonalds combo meal is averaging $6+ in some areas. U are entitled to your personal opinion, just like I'm entitled to think what I think. I think $20 is reasonable for a dance, and I am absolutely delighted to work mostly in a $40 per dance town. I am equally delighted that the majority of customers do not have a problem with paying the going rate or expecting something else for their money.

I think that $20 is WAY TOO MUCH for a dance. Even $10 is TOO EXPENSIVE - $6 - $8 is more reasonable. However, I get horny sometimes so I am sometimes willing to pay $10 for a dance.

keep in mind these are HOUSTON dances I am talking about. I don't think any clarification is needed about what Houston dances involve.
Lover is a troll that posts on the Exotic Dancer Board all the time, bragging about $10 dances and getting extras. Nobody really believes him since the way he says it is always so condescending. We understand he gets some kind of perverse pleasure from berating dancers and making us feel cheap and dirty.

In any case, yes, dancer's clothes in retail stores is a major rip-off. Girls I work with are constantly amazed at the stuff I find on-line. I usually end up selling all the stuff I buy and that doesn't fit me right forthe same price I paid and they are amazed. But the problem is that many dancers don't know how to shop on-line. Fortunately, shopping is one thing I'm good at!

I totaly agree about getting ripped off on dancer clothes. I just sold that red gown to someone possibly from this board for under $40 and it cost me $150 originaly from Lollipops.com- they have adorable but over priced stuff. I like to offer things like that on Ebay to other dancers ,it helps them and it helps me too. I have noticed lots of good prices for dancer clothes and shoes on there- mine were used but many are brand new. It is definatly worth a look.

As for Lover- he has been banned from numorous sites,I do hope his crap gets removed from this lovely site as well.

Apparently some qualudes, a condom, a tube of K-Y jelly, a trip to the free clinic for both parties, and if the dancer has any sense left in her head, a restraining order.

    So I've heard.

In some instances I have had great luck, and better prices because I dance. Salon services is one case, the beauticians know they will have a steady customer if they treat the dancers right (oh yeah, we tip good too!). I also have an ultra cheap gym membership because the owner is a good business man and knows that if he has lots of cute girls with big boobs jogging on the treadmills, that more guys (and women) will sign up for inflated prices, to either look like the girls, or just plain look at the girls.

But, yes, dancer stores take advantage of dancers. Even seamstress's will charge extra for dancer outfits. I have heard from customers that "you girls make so much money, why should I tip you?" This comment was in a club that was having a slow spell and there were all of 5 customers in the place at the time. My response was "Ummm, from whom am I supposed to be making all this money from?" His comment was "I know all you girls make at least $1000 a day, so don't give me that line" I figured there was no sale going to happen with this guy, so I gave him a smart ass remark about the brand new Hummer in the parking lot was mine, and that girl over there, she drives the brand new BMW, oh, and that girl there; hers is the Rolls". And with that comment I got into my private Jet and left for Monaco.

To Lover: I agree with you to some extent. I would rather be doing a $10 dance and earn something on a slow night, than sitting on my pride, and hold out for the twenties and earn nothing. But when the club is really busy and dances are in demand the price goes up to $25 or more per song. It is a simple matter of supply and demand. I do have some pride however. And won't do a private dance for less than $10 for a full song or full nude. If the guys only want to tip me a few bucks, they are welcome to sit at my stage and enjoy the view from there. I will occasionally do free dances to keep myself in the mood to work, but that is only if the guy is not only smoking hot, but is also super nice too Basicly someone whom I would date if I weren't working. I will also through in free dances for my regulars after they have spent everything in their pocket, as a sort of incentive to come back next payday.

Yeah I get really sick of people going on and on about how loaded I must be, how I must be making a fortune, and I 'can afford to pay'. AAARRRRGGG!!!! It's absurd. Leigh if that asshole doesn't charge you a reasonable price, find the Canadian equivalent to the Better Business Bureau and report the SOB. I bet that will change his tune, and he shouldn't be allowed to continue ripping people off like that!

If your car is not under warranty, never go to the dealer. Find a reputable shop who works on your type of car. And always, always..tell them do NO EXTRA work if they find something else, as they are very good at. Until they call you first. That is why you go around and get estimates first. And it's best if your a bit of a "priss" about it, and know nothing about cars, to have a guy with you when you take your car in for repairs. I take my car myself, for tune ups and service checks to a man who only does mercedes and the like, no dealer now, much more expensive. And hell i'll go with after market parts as long as theyare mercedes parts. And i talk like i know alot about my car. He thought i was a real bitch at first, but we hit it off when he knew i will not get ripped off. I am running on 3 cylinders, ok don't feed me shit that i need an engine overhaul. Start small lets see the plugs, wires, cap. Hell with that crap. Pamela

Just came back from there, got my van....and I got the price back down to the second quote.

I also reiterated I am from Alberta which does NOT have provincial sales tax so not to charge me I have alberta plates and registration and license.
If you charge me you will only have to give it back with ten times the paperwork through the government. Also putting your name on the lips of govt. tax persons and that may or may not be a good thing...then I said you originally quoted this and another dealership not far away quoted that and the original garage quoted the other, so what the hell!

Anyway drove off paying somewhere around the middle and somewhat annoyed that business has to be conducted in such a manner. I mean for real. I dont mind paying we all gotta pay sometime but c'mon!

One of the other writer's here mentioned that ya salons and such offer deals yes, I agree had a few myself...but more often than not I have actually been refused service...I was at a dance boutique (ballet jazz etc) and was buying some stuff the lady asks me if I am a dancer and I fell for the trap thinking oh discount great! So I confirm that yes I am --would she like to see my license...as some stores request.
She takes my items and puts them on a counter behind her and says "we don't serve your kind here...please leave the store."
    WHAT THE FUH...!
I actually stood there a second or two STUNNED, I said pardon me? She said "leave the store or I will call the police and say you are creating a disturbance and have you removed by law."

By law? You refuse to serve me and I AM breaking the law?

The other lady steps up beside her and said she will attest to the fact that I am unreasonable and disturbing their clientele with my presence.
I look at the other people in line - they all turn away from me refusing eye contact.
Can ya get a load of THAT!
I was also dressed very casually not like I was there in a thong and a boa fer crissakes, I had no make up on, baggy jogging gear and a ponytail!

I left. Bitter? Yup. What can ya do?

Ok two things to add here ,,, one ,, I totally agree with Jacqualine about how $20 is reasonable to take clothes off for a total stranger. In fact when I am very attracted to the dancer and really feel a nice connection,, I always tip big,,, like 1-200. for a few dances. I think that you girls go through so much more than anyone on the outside really knows about. and Second,, I am a home builder and I know exactly what you mean when u dont like people assuming that u make tons of money. I get that all the time "well he can afford that ". etc.,,, Well hopefully there are some nice guys mixed in with the low lifes.,....

I am so lucky I have a wonderful mechanic! This summer my starter kicked the can after ten years of faithful service. I took it in to Scott, he diagnosed it, checked out baby car totally. Then he took it to a neighboring shop, had it rebuilt and charged me for one measly hour of labor. Love that man, still sad that it cost me the money I saved my E Garcia silver spurs.

I really don't think it matters if you dance or whatever. People will find some reason to treat you like shit. There's a saddle/yuppy "western decor" store in town called the Spotted Mule. I was there shopping for a saddle and mind you I could only afford their low end, but they decided because I was a scruffy little cowgirl to ignore me. That's fine, I took my money else where.

My car has really shoddy paint because it came from Idaho and Ford cut corners on paint that year also. It's not the nicest car, but it runs beautifully so I can't complain. Plus, by driving baby car, I can work toward owning a truck, rather than just buying a nicer car.

It's lame, but it happens all the time. I think the ultimate was when I got my first apartment in San Leandro, CA. The manager was a complete and total prick to me until he found out I was a dot-com kid and then we were old pals.

Bah, if that chick would have given me shit like that, I would have thrown a fit, just for fun. I mean, if they're gonna accuse you...

I think that many people feel that they can take advantage of women let alone a woman that makes a lot of money in any occupation, especially, exotic dancing.

I have a friend whose husband is a car salesman and he quit this one job b/c one of the salesman was taking full advantage of a customer who was buying a car that was a exotic dancer. They jacked up the monthly payment on her car and gave her a high APR...... just b/c she made LOTS OF $$ ....and she even had good credit.
