    Default Habits

Interesting topic came up at work as to what habits we've (dancers) attained since we started dancing. Good or bad.
My *bad* habit has been eating when I come home. I get home at 4am or so and am starving! when I first started dancing, I wouldn't eat, but now that I'm used to it, I can't break that habit! :-/
Some other habits girls mentioned were : smoking more, staying up late regularly even on nights not working (I admit, I do this sometimes, too).....

    any others?..

um, PS : even as I write this I am eating a bagel and have a bowl of tortellini in the microwave. BAD . so bad to eat before bedtime!

    Yes!

I always eat after work. I get off at anywhere from 4-7am and I'm always starving. If I don't eat I'll get a massive headache that won't go away until I eat.

Stay up late no matter what day of the week.

Sometimes stay up all night and into the next afternoon, on the damn computer surfing, chatting, downloading tunes, looking for SOMETHING really important...

Sometimes curse when I'd really rather not. I hear it so constantly in the dressing room and out on the floor it's almost normal. That is one I try to watch but slip up on - just too common at work.

Sleep too late and veg on the couch all day, the day after working the week, when I could be lying at the beach! It would be so much nicer to veg at the beach, but I can't seem to drag myself off the couch long enough to walk the 3 blocks to get there on a Sunday! Horrible!

Buy too many blasted things at the drugstore when I just went in to get shampoo! Shampoo always winds up costing me $40-$50 because of this.

I could go on and on, but it's all pretty harmless stuff really, so why worry about it? I don't drink excessively or use drugs, or get into trouble or anything serious....so who cares right?

Mine is the same as yours, I get home about 3 am and eat almost everynight......
Then think to my self, why do I get up and work out everyday when I come home and eat everynight before I crawl into bed.......
I was a smoker(sad to say) before dancing, and I am to the point I am really thinking I would like to quit..
At home I have cut down alot..... (Ibartend and dance at my club)
When I bartend I don't do to bad, when I dance I smoke so much more...
When you sit and talk with customers, it becomes so easy to just keep lighting them up with out thinking about it......
I have to say, though I do eat better, work out more, and take better care of myself in more ways then I use too since I dance and want to look the best I can......(Except for that 3 am snack LOL)

Jacqueline, you just burned off alot of calories, and your body wants fuel. After a hard nights work you should (but i know eating before bed).
put food back into your body. It's what your body needs. I eat when i come home, i burned off my reserves, and have to put it back to. But i try to be careful what i do eat before bed. Dancing is work! We have to eat too. You will be fine.

Thank God I am not alone!

Yup the comp is my habit - check mail, re-route all the funnies, chat online with my friends back home (3 hr time difference they are still up!)

ANd the sack out all day thing too when I should be out & about! How do I BREAK that? yeesh

I am famished at 3 am too - I try so hard to bite it and go to bed hungry, I wake up with such a flat tummy...but oh the subtle callings from the damn fridge, if I listen real quietly I can hear my name............

Swearing - OH MAN, that too.

    What a lifestyle.

The drug store - YUP. Serums and potions and nice smelling soaps and doodads and b4 u know it boom you just dropped a serious wad o cash at the till. We are product queens are we not? I have every kind of hairbrush ever made, every commercial styler like the twisty braid thing and fat curling irons thin curling irons air diffusers, My get ready area at home is better equiped than any salon FOR REAL.

I spend my "extra" cash this way...and I agree with you Bridgette, if this is the worst of our crimes so be it. I too dont blow it on drugs and booze and the like.

Not meaning the "fatties smoked" as mentioned here, heh heh thats soft drugs, although I myself dont smoke I totally dont think of weed as a sin -

I spend it all on the joys of pampering the girl in me. I LIKE it too.....I know I could better save it and what not but hell its ALL tax deductable, right down to the tampons (oop)!!! Heh heh!!

Thats the part I'll miss when I go back to a regular career - all that disposable income at your fingertips...and will have to choose my purchases wisely instead of on a whim.

I feel proud of myself after reading this!

I was in such a rut last spring and summer, doing all the same things above: drinking too much, eating late, aweful sleep schedule, spending $ on dumb stuff, etc.

I resolved to get my life back on track last fall, and so far I've kicked my worst habits.

After my move I've been able to cut out alcohol (dancers can't drink in AZ) and I take a protein bar to work with me and have it every night around 10. I've gotten addicted to the ProMax Honey Peanut...it's dreamy!!! That way when I get home, I shower, do yoga and go to bed by 2:30 (oh yeah, it helps that clubs close at 1 am out here too)

My other trick is that I MAKE myself get out of bed and go to the gym at 9am during the week. For me, sleeping in just contributes to more laziness.....

Red Bull and Nature Valley Trail Mix Bars. Another habit is turning the radio OFF when driving home from work. Usually I don' t wanna hear anything, but on exceptionally good nites when I'm nearing home I listen to this song called money flow about how money comes and goes.
