From what I've seen since I started dancing, and going off what I know having an Aunt that danced in the late seventies until the mid eighties, I have an idea where exotic dancing is going.
I can see the word "stripper" becoming synonymous with "hooker".
There will be other girls that will participate in stage only performances reminisant of the old time girly shows offering dying artistic talent such as pastie twirling, fan dancing and trapeze tricks. These performers will call themselves "Burlesque Performers". The Burlesque girls will have to have some real stage talent, be it either comedy, dance, singing, or all of the above. They will rarely perform fully nude, mostly doing so when stratigicly covered by bubbles or some other obstruction.
"Strippers" will continue to denigrate into the realm of prostitution, with a legal face i.e.; porno films and magazines and/or lap dancing clubs that look the other way while "extras" become the norm and are no longer extra. As the clubs rely more and more on girls that give extras to keep clientele coming through the door, these guys who own the clubs will push the law makers to keep their businesses legal. It wasn't all that long ago that it was illegal to even so much as purchase a private totally air dance from a girl because it was considered prostitution. Now, in many states prostitution is defined by genital on genital contact only, and anything else is legal for the exchange of money (oral or manual stimulation is not covered by the preceding definition).
Now the only thing that is keeping these guys from running brothels is liquor regulations. And most nude clubs have no liquor, so what difference does it make? In many areas the responsibility of staying legal is up to the girl alone with the club not putting it's neck on the line whatsoever. So the girl has about the same chance of getting busted for prostitution working in a club compared to working on the street, or for a service. So prostitutes can come into the club, screen their potential clients, lap dance only for the ones they want, and hire out for "professional services" to only those guys they wish to "do business" with. In the mean time they can have bouncers on the look out of the guys who want that kind of service, pay the bouncers a kick back for sending them new business, as well as have someone know exactly where they are for protection purposes.
On the upside, the burlesque reviews will be fun, profitable, and more of a draw to a larger audience than Gentlemen's Clubs. The Burlesque performers won't have to be particularly talented, just have a commanding stage presence, and a willingness to do silly stuff while naked. Even if that means singing badly
I am already in my mid thirties, so I won't be in the business long enough to see all of this happen, but it sure looks like that is the way things are going now.
Maybe this is a good thing.
